U.S. Politics megathread

Upvotes

American politics has always grabbed our attention - and the current president more than ever. We get tons of questions about the president, the supreme court, and other topics related to American politics - but often the same ones over and over again. Our users often get tired of seeing them, so we've created a megathread for questions! Here, users interested in politics can post questions and read answers, while people who want a respite from politics can browse the rest of the sub. Feel free to post your questions about politics in this thread!

All top-level comments should be questions asked in good faith - other comments and loaded questions will get removed. All the usual rules of the sub remain in force here, so be nice to each other - you can disagree with someone's opinion, but don't make it personal.

How quickly to clean a… guys mess? NSFW

Upvotes

35yr old female. When hooking up with dudes, I ask them ahead of time not to cum in me as I’m not on any birth control. They’re always cool to do so.

My question is: once they cum, say like on their belly, hand, my belly or wherever, how long should I wait to get up and offer a towel?

I did so within seconds with this last guy and he seemed offended. Should I have waited and “cuddled” for a few minutes before offering help with clean up?

Thank you.

Is the current day “blue collar culture” injected with propaganda?

Upvotes

I’m a pretty liberal guy, going to school for engineering, but I work summers doing blue collar jobs. Just about every guy ive worked with could not give less of a damn about the billionaire class, yet they all are either under or barely touching $20-30 an hour. Not to mention the bragging of how many hours they work. I just cant wrap my head around such a large portion of the working class supports things directly against their interests such as healthcare for all and class consciousness, without some sort of psyop of the 1%. Anyone get what I mean?

Did other emergency calls (house fires, heart attacks, strokes, etc.) simply get ignored because all resources were at the Twin Towers?

Is a blowjob and anal sex topologically speaking just the same? NSFW

weird thought but topologically a blow job and anal sex is the same only a different name for each side right?

edit:this question is more about the definition than actual sex

edit2: please just Google what Topology means if you don't know it instead of assuming

Is it weird to not have a bin in your bathroom?

Upvotes

I’m a single guy, mid 20s, recently hosted my first party - around 10 people, mixed gender, for a few hours. Three different people mentioned that my bathroom didn’t have a bin.

I know some people have bins in their bathrooms, but I don't really see the point? I maybe throw away a toothpaste tube or toilet roll core once a month, and otherwise there’s basically nothing. I just take it out and put it in the main bin.

But when 3 people mentioned it, I started wondering if not having a bathroom bin is actually weird and I’m just oblivious?

Why do women not get called daughter the way men get called son?

Upvotes

Often I see people refer to guys as son but I've never seen a women referred to as "daughter"

Like in movies they'll be like "Put the gun down son, this isn't you"

Is it because "put the gun down daughter" sounds stupid?

Why do we get the urge to spank butts? NSFW

Upvotes

I was laying there spooning with my wife. I was the big spoon and she the little spoon. I grabbed her ass and gave her a little spanking. It made me think, why do I get that urge to want to do that? I know it's a human thing to do sexually. Girls do it to guys and vice versa. But why? Why do we get the urge to do it? We know that physically harming someone is bad. Even if it's just a little bit but we do this.

Let's say I killed someone. The evidence is rock-solid; I am prison-bound 100%. On the way to trial, I fall, hit my head and get knocked unconscious. I wake up in a hospital, diagnosed with a Traumatic Brain Injury, and no memory of who I am or anything from huge swaths of my life.

Upvotes

Would i still be found guilty of murder? What happens to my trial?

What's the morality of convincing someone who truly has no memory of the crime? Am I the same person at all?

Was I really as stupid/naive as my friends say I was? NSFW

Upvotes

Some of my (28F) friends recently made me feel really stupid for something I did when I was younger and I’d like some other opinions.

When I was 19, I briefly hooked up with a 30 year old male coworker of mine. It was mutually respectful, the best sex I’d had until that point, and I have zero complaints. I never wanted or expected it to turn into a relationship. I took it for what it was. He wanted sex with a hot 19 year old, I wanted sex with a hot 30 year old. He treated me better than any of the guys I met who were my age. He did ask to turn it into a relationship after about a month and I said “nope, that’s weird” and ended it. He quit the job we worked at together and moved away soon after and that was the end of it.

I’m really not seeing the issue here, at least not on my end. Yes I was young. No I wasn’t naive. I knew exactly what was going on and what I wanted and I ended it as soon as he wanted more from me than I felt was appropriate. Obviously he was weird for wanting to date me, but did I really act foolishly here? They said I was really naive to hook up with a predator in the first place. To be clear he didn’t pressure me. I came onto him and I’ve never felt any regret or shame about it until they called me out. I still don’t really, I’m just kind of hurt.

Edit: I commented this but wanted to add it here for clarification. No man in any of my past relationships or casual encounters has ever successfully manipulated, controlled, abused, or mistreated me in any way. At least not more than once before I left. I have a very healthy relationship history in that sense. You can ask my dad. The second I feel remotely manipulated, controlled or threatened I go into fight or flight mode. I have a strong radar for that shit and have never tolerated it. I can smell an abuser a mile away, courtesy of my abusive mom.

Edit 2: I think what bothers me the most is that people are automatically seeing me as a victim because of the age gap. Not every age gap encounter or relationship creates a victim. I actively pursued him, got what I wanted, enjoyed the experience, and then ended it, all fully on my terms. I know there are plenty of young women who were in my position and became victims. I hate it for them, but I am not one of them. Were his intentions pure? Maybe, maybe not. But even if they weren’t, that doesn’t automatically make me a victim. I exercised agency and control of the situation and I wasn’t harmed. This is the only point I’ve been trying to make.

Almost every guy I know has been single their whole life and almost all virgins. (over 40) How many people do you know who have never been with anyone?

Upvotes

Most of my friends or acquaintances who are men have never been with anyone, but its strictly almost all of them around the age of 40-50. I used to hear that generation was having the least sex. I don't know any women for whom this is the case, but almost every guy I've met is (at least the ones who I know their status).

I'm the same though, almost 42 and have never been with anyone. Always wanted to go on a date or find someone, and I tried very hard my whole life, but it never happened even during my best years, and I am far beyond my best years now, so I kind of don't really try anymore. I'm kind of coasting to the grave at this point.

Do you think it’s humanly possible to emotionally connect and support every child to the extent they need for more than 6 kids?

Upvotes

I have a woman at my church who is pregnant with her 12th child. Tbh she’s pregnant every year. When I thought about it, I’m unsure if she and her husband can emotionally and mentally support and connect with that many children. Is this possible? Has anyone had any experience with this?

Is sleeping with my guy friend a bad idea? NSFW

Upvotes

Hi I'm a F. My close guy friend and I are classmates in uni (both in our 20s). I'm a virgin, and I have been thinking about intimacy quite often lately. I was pretty repulsed by it all my life, until recently (idk what changed). I'm slightly interested in him, and knowing he told me he sees me as a friend but doesn't mind talking about the sex topic with me - and invested in who I spend time with/ which guys I talk to. He does seem a bit controlling with me, so I don't know how things will turn out if we ever become physical. I've been wondering if becoming FWB is a good idea or not, or even asking him if he wants anything physical. I'm worried about how our dynamic will be but I do want my first to be with him. Any advice, thoughts, and what should I expect to happen?

How is the world able to supply all this food daily?

Upvotes

I mean like Costco that sells thousands of rotisserie chickens daily, McDonald’s that claims over a million burgers a day. How as a species have we been able to supply this much food at a rapid rate and almost never seem to run out, but we’re low on water?

Those who believe: How does the idea of a afterlife not scare the shit out of you?

Upvotes

Alright, so you die.. bummer. Core of who you are; your memories, experiences, and feelings transcend to a better place. So you are you, your consciousness contained within this 'soul' to exist forever in a non-dying utopia, where all your loved ones past dead are there.

Check and check, sounds like a pretty good deal. No more of this bullshit we have to endure in our corporeal body. A paradise you get to exist in forever.

Forever.. for infinity. After what you would perceive as 10 years pass in your bliss? Well infinity is left. Your life span? Yup, still got infinity to go. How about a billon years - a length of time where if you went in reverse, the earth is one continent - a giant rock. All that would exist is single-celled organisms in a vast body of water.

And still.. infinity is left.

You would have spoken to every 'thing' that existed, ever. Every thought, you have thought. Every action, deed, reality, and feeling - you've done it. Done it twice, done it all a Decillion times. That's 1 followed by 33 zeros.

And still... infinity is left.

You can not die, you exist in this utopia forever. Like being locked in a room, with only a wall to keep you company. Nothing left but to exist, nothing left but to wait.

And still..

How do people afford to live in California if it’s expensive

Upvotes

I’ve always wondered how average people manage to live in California, especially in places like Los Angeles, San Diego, or the Bay Area. Rent can easily be thousands of dollars a month, and then you still have groceries, gas, utilities, insurance, taxes, and everything else.

Are salaries really that much higher in California to make up for the cost of living? Do most people have roommates, live with family, commute from cheaper areas, or just spend a huge percentage of their income on rent? For people who make normal working-class or middle-class salaries, how do you realistically make it work?

Whats the best ‘bit’ or one-liner you do that people seem to love?

Upvotes

A favorite of mine is for at restaurants -

Server: “Would you like more Parmesan on the salad?”
Me, serious faced; “why not, I’m not driving”

Works with any food that’s obviously not alcohol and always gets a good chuckle.

Im talking simple, probably a bit cheesy, low-stakes lines that are appropriate for most settings that you use frequently to introduce a bit of humor or wit.

Do you have a particular line you keep in your back pocket or have remembered since you heard someone else use it?

Dog crying downstairs for hours, should I do something?

Upvotes

There’s a dog that’s been crying constantly for a long time and I’m starting to get worried. They’ve had this dog in the apartment downstairs from us for a long time and this has never happened. I’m worried that the dog is being neglected or the owner is in trouble or something. This isn’t normal barking, it seems frantic and abnormal. Should I call the cops or something?
