Someone else was saying that it isn't slang but a piece of dialect that got appropriated. It got morphed from ass by people making it softer at the start and end. Flows a little better and is easier. A classic thing in AAVE.
So the black city dwelling community used it, then as a result of them creating pop culture it got taken by the rest of the world. The kicker is that they don't use language the same way so it just gets jammed in to sentences shittily.
So not slang but being used as slang which is why it sounds so dumb. If you listen to someone with the right dialect its not even noticeable

Sadly this is true and just getting worse, AI babies will be voting in a decade or so.
As a parent to kids who currently are teens I can't even count how many times I heard the "won't they feel left out" for not allowing them to use tiktok, have a phone before 15, not allowing them to have social media accounts and....well wouldn't you know it they DO feel left out.
They feel left out because 80% of their peers are functionally illiterate and incapable of anything passed basic additional and subtraction, while they are not. Not only that they are social capable IN THE REAL WORLD, they know how to communicate and not seem dead behind the eyes.
I have plenty of regrets, raising my kids a bit more "old school" is not one of them.

I (white) grew up in a majority-black neighborhood, before moving to a whiter suburb in my very late teens.
I would guess that the transmission of slang from the black vernacular to the white majority is centuries old - the common use of the word "cool" goes as far back as the 30's or 40's, and comes from AAVE - but it is fascinating how much social media sped up and broadened the process. To the point where a modified (or butchered, depending on your pov) form of AAVE essentially is the Internet's vernacular.
To get philosophical and go back to a previous term: I think an inherent aspect of something being "cool" is an air of counterculture, and you can't get more countercultural - for young white people looking to rebel or stand out - than a culture whose outsider status was imposed upon it by the majority. Add to that the inherent playfulness and inventiveness in Black American speech, and it's kinda easy to see why it's appealing, even if this appeal is not always treated with grace and respect by the people appropriating it.

No doubt. I always felt in previous decades that by the time new slang was became mainstream, it signaled the end of the term being considered cool. Think suburban moms talking about "bling bling" in the 2000s or white frat boys "getting crunk" after discovering Lil Jon.
But now the transmission happens instantly on social media and a phrase like "crash out" literally changes meaning from "losing your mind and making a decision that may have terrible consequences" to "getting emotional and having an outward reaction" so it can be more broadly applied to the situations middle class teens find themselves in... mostly online. Both groups of people still use it, but concept itself is completely watered down so it can be used by a wider audience.

"Larp" has been used for a long time and definitely started with kids being outside and away from screens. Most of those kids were a bit weird, like ren-fair in the park weird but it started as a term used in face to face interactions.

It's definitely become a lot more common lately, but I'm pretty sure I've heard people characterize security guards as "larping as police" since way back in the day. But, yeah, it was generally used to mean "pretending to be a specific X, when they're really not." It wouldn't have been used like in this video ("Holy larp"), because she looks like a Tik-Tokker/Instagrammer, and odds are she is a Tik-Tokker/Instagrammer, so there's no larping.

Yes and people have long before “ahh” became a popular written word online. It’s AAVE and you’ve probably heard people say it hundreds of times without realizing. The way it’s said in the clip is an example of someone who’s only been exposed to it online and doesn’t really understand what it means, thus the mispronunciation.

I’m a bit lazy so this actually looks like my kind of thing that I would love!!! I barely take photos or videos when I should, but this is something even my lazy AF self who hates being in photos or videos - would probably go to the effort of filming or taking photos of, or even asking someone I’m with to get a shot of it and film while I am in view!

Out of all the things, this is the least performative, or cringe or whatever comments are about it, that I’ve ever seen. 😂 She’s just lying there in a beautiful field and surrounded by that breathtaking scenery.
This is the type of stuff we have always and should actually film with YOURSELF in frame to save for memories of a life lived, too….
So it’s pretty funny to see a basic thing like this getting comments or being called out for anything at all other then it being amazing place - when we would have always filmed/taken photos of something like this well before anyone was even posting themselves online. 😂

- People acting like these kids are demeaning her or being cruel are also dramatically overreacting. Saying she's larping and that the sleeping is performative is an intentionally absurd accusation and its funny as fuck
- People taking their mispronunciation of ahh and running with "the next generation is doomed" rhetoric is lame and embarrassing given how every generation prior has done this shit to us.
