I know the the kids are typing "ahh" nowadays, but do you mean to tell me they don't even SAY "ass" any longer?

Yeah I was under the impression it was to avoid filters and censors. They’re still pronouncing it wrong even it was spelled that way.

It has never been a way to avoid censors, I'm not sure why that's parroted so often. It's just the latest bit of AAVE that has become widespread through the internet. It was used irl well before it started becoming popular online

2 things can be true at the same time.

Sure, but in this case it isn't. It was popularized before filters were really a thing, and it hasn't ever been mainly used on the sites that do have filters.

Youre getting downvoted because youre pushing back against a popular talking point on Reddit

People were saying "ahh" out loud where I live almost 20 years ago

I remember people saying "bih" and shit in 2010 too. This kind of slang predates Tiktok censorship.

It’s insane how many people will blindly parrot things they’ve seen explained on Reddit lmao

For real. Especially when it's so obvious that a lot of Redditors are insanely out of touch on things like AAVE and slang.

Yeah I thought it was just form of self-censoring to not get filtered by the platforms, never even imagined someone would speak like that outloud. Lesson learned.

I dont blame you since thats commonly parroted on Reddit, but its not really true.

This slang has been around for over 15 years.
