I’m pretty sure that’s not How you pronounce “ahh”

That’s because they’re pronouncing it the way it’s spelled and it’s been spelled wrong since the beginning. It should’ve been spelled “ă” or if you wanna get technical “æ”.

Ä

No. “ă” and “æ” made sense, "ä" is just you using random accents to make a silly "a".

But ä is literally the pronunciation of the a in ass. Just like æ which is just part of the international phonetically alphabet. How is ă different to ä according to your description of just using random accents?

Edit:

English is one of the rare languages where they write a while it‘s not pronounced as /a/ anymore but as /æ/, /ɑː/, /ɒ/, /ɔː/, /ɛː/, /eɪ/, /ə/.

An ä on the other hand is pronounced in most languages that use it as either an /æ/ or /ə/, which is literally the pronunciation of ahh.

The difference is in my assumption of their intent. You're right, ä fits well

And the person they replied to was using non-random accents to make a silly “a”.

Their goal was beyond making a silly "a"; they were making an accurate "a".
