I first heard the word ‘unalive’ when a very young co-worker of mine was describing how good the new Beetlejuice movie was, but she didn’t like the part when one of the characters ‘unalived themselves’.

I look at her all confused while nodding but didn’t want to ask her to repeat herself because I wanted to look cool and collected lol.

When she walked away I looked up the term and was baffled.

Is it just my friend group whose done this for 15 years?

I'm nearly 33 years old and saying unalive has been something that people around me said since I was a teenager.

Things like doing bad in school and another kid would say "bro I'm gonna unalive myself my scores were so shit"

Checking online, deadpool even used the word in a spiderman cartoon like 13 years ago, this was pretty common slang in my friend group and around my highschool like 17 years ago, this isn't really anything new tbh.

ahh doesn't have anything to do with filters. It's AAVE that eventually made its way onto the internet and became widespread.

It's literally never been about filters. That's just parroted on Reddit by people that have no idea what they're talking about. It was "goofy ahh sound effects" that really made it popular.

Are you a kid yourself? Everyone I know that talks this way, which is a lot, are fine swearing. They also say ‘ass’ plenty, they just use ‘ahh’ for emphasis cause they think it’s funny

In my experience the kids afraid of swearing also stay away from saying ahh.

You might just need more friends. Just because your cousins specifically use it to avoid swearing doesn’t mean the entire generation does.
