I dont even know what to say man. that was just sad. I think the Dabo era is over

u/KingBroseidon5 Clemson Tigers 2d ago

I had hope, yet there’s a reason Morris hasn’t had a job since 2021 and Allen’s defense was terrible last seasons despite the talent

u/stunna006 LSU Tigers 2d ago

It sucks because dabo had such a great run. But i think it really is time to try to bring in a fresh mentality while yall still have the resources from the last run.

Ended the year strong last year and i thought it may have been a revival. But idk what i just witnessed. Qb play and refusal to bring in a transfer is just a microcosm

Dabo is stuck in the past. Everyone needs to move on.

u/levajack Oregon Ducks 2d ago

He was cooked as soon as the transfer portal and NIL got going. He certainly wasn't going to survive this next wave of bullshit that's arriving with NFL washouts on their way.

u/Xy13 Arizona State Sun Devils • Pac-12 2d ago

He had the #7 talent composite last year. Building a roster is not Dabo’s issue, despite this being everyone’s main talking point.

His main issue is the staff is filled with former-player nepo-hires who clearly cannot coach as good as they played under him when they won Natties.

u/DarnellisFromMars Louisville Cardinals 1d ago

It’s an interesting dichotomy where the large majority of people point to the NIL and Portal as the decline of Clemson’s program, but somehow they still have highly touted players consistently getting drafted.

9 players drafted this past spring, 5 in the top 75!, their QB at 110 (everyone called him a JAG but the dude got picked…) and however many UDFAs.

Only three programs with more guys selected in the draft with OSU, Bama, and A&M. Something besides the talent has to be the issue.

completing embarrassing

still no offense, still no ability to stop the run, things that have been issues for the past 4+ years are still issues

u/DangerouslyUnstable UC Davis Aggies • Clemson Tigers 2d ago

Dabo needed to clean house in the coaching staff this past off season. Most of the assistants needed to be gone. Had he done that (or any equivalently large move showing that he recognized the dire state of the program), then, at least for me personally, I would have given him a full multi-year rebuild worth of extra time. Instead, he hired an old buddy and did essentially bupkiss else. People talk about the portal, but the problem isn't the portal. The problem is that the Clemson coaching staff is not selected by merit at all. It is a hive of nepotism. Would the talent maybe be higher than it is with more portal use? Sure, maybe. But the talent on this team is far, far better than what has been on display the past several seasons, and the blame falls squarely on the coaching staff, from top to bottom.

u/IronSmoltz Clemson • O'Rourke-McFadden Trophy 2d ago

It’s a Dabocracy. Seriously though, 9 players selected in the NFL draft from a 7-6 team shows there is something seriously wrong with our coaching and player development.

WMU defeated Michigan in football by a score of 12-7 on September 5, 2026.

That was a top 100 recruit whiffing like that, and he’s coached by Matt Luke, our only coach on the offensive side of the ball with any level of success in the last decade.

People don’t realize just how dire our coaching is. It’s Chad Morris, Matt Luke, a bunch of Dabo’s former players, and a guy who was a good high school coach a decade ago. There are 6A high schools in Texas with more accomplished offensive coaches than Clemson outside of Matt Luke.

I don’t think it makes us spoiled fans to want big changes after this. We have a Clemson alum who has less resources who won 11 games last year and looks like he’s got another great team ready to go.

I drove 11 hours down and on the drive back up.

I sat with some big money donors who jetted in and left at the half. They were not happy. They’re the ones who actually put people on the hot seat. So that’s something.

It’s not that we lost. It’s the mirror being held up to this program that we don’t even belong on the same field have to have big changes asap.

This feels so much like Tommy Bowden’s embarrassing Alabama loss in 2009. It’s over for Dabo unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat, but with this staff? No way at all. No one forced him to bring back Chad Morris who hasn’t been successful in any coaching capacity for almost a decade. No one forced him to keep filling his position coaching vacancies with inexperienced former players. He did all of these things while being sanctimonious about his “lane”.

Best way to describe this belt to a**. We had a good run but it’s time for Dabo to hang up his hat. Not even the talent discrepancy, players just look unmotivated and coaches are failing at all levels

Some one at Clemson needs to have the heart to take Ol' Yeller out back and put him out of his suffering.

I know a lot of talk is going to be about all the drama going into this game and the narratives being thrown around about this team. But ignoring all that and just focusing on football, this is the best coached I’ve seen an LSU team in an opening game since our 2019 team. Just absolutely flawless execution on both sides of the football. Limited penalties. Smart decision making from our QB who played a very good game. 200 yards of rushing offense in one half (we did not have 200 yards of rushing offense as a team in any game last year). Good passing offense.

And then the defense. My god that defense. Seeing a Blake Baker defense loaded with talent and paired with an offense that can actually drive, keep the football, and score  is a thing of beauty. Excellent pursuit of the football, excellent tackling. Felt like an LSU defense of old during the Saban/early Miles era.

I don’t know how good we are and I don’t know how bad Clemson are, but what I can say is that we definitely executed better than I’ve seen in years in an opener (and really any regular season game in the past few years). Say what you will about Kiffin, him and his staff had the boys ready to play and I’m excited to see a fun LSU team this year cause that was fun af

The execution tonight by LSU was incredible. After the first couple of drives LSU on both sides of the ball was on a different level.

This is spot on. I’m so used to watching multiple false starts, illegal formations, random unnecessary timeouts, etc. On top of the game play execution, it was so clean

There was a fire and energy in this team tonight we have not seen in quite awhile

This was a perfect opportunity for us to play down to an opponent as we have done countless times before but we just didn’t do that

The future is exceptionally bright

Kiffin was also mad about the backup QB fumbling a snap and Baker was pissed about giving up a touchdown. It's refreshing to see.

Texted my buddy that I don’t think we had a single procedural penalty. Could be wrong but it just felt like everyone knew exactly what they had to do

Except for Jayden Daniels, has LSU had a single 100+ rush yard game since 2019?

Tyrion Davis-Price ran for 285 against Florida in 2021. School record.

Dabo. You got to start that freshman QB before it's too late. The Miami game is the cutoff date. Vizzina ain't it

Don't let the final score fool you, the game wasn't that close.

Total bloodbath. LSU had 29 more first downs, 499 more yards, ran 46 more plays, and was nearly +13 minutes for TOP.

Clemson was murdered on live television.

After Clemson took a 3-0 lead with 13:28 left in the 1st quarter, LSU outscored Clemson 51-7 during the rest of the game in Lane Kiffin's debut. Also, LSU snapped a 2-game losing streak and handed Clemson their 2nd straight loss. I noticed several other trends.

  1. LSU swept the home-and-home series and won 3 consecutive games against Clemson by a combined 110-42 since a 25-24 loss in the 2012 Peach Bowl on 12/31/2012.
  2. LSU has won 3 consecutive home games since a 49-25 loss to Teas A&M on 10/25/25.
  3. LSU snapped Clemson's 4-game road winning streak by handing them their first road loss since a 24-21 loss at Georgia Tech on 9/13/2025.
  4. Clemson has lost 4 consecutive games to SEC teams other than South Carolina since a 38-35 win over Kentucky in the 2023 Gator Bowl on 12/29/2023, and 3 of those 4 losses were by 14+ points each.

The Dabo Swinney Era at Clemson looks like it's really ending in a whimper. I don't think I've ever seen a Swinney team look so uncompetitive.

Anyone who didn't have LSU top 10 preseason was absolutely letting a lot of meaningless bullshit blind them. Frankly I was suprised my preseason poll having them at 6 was one of the highest.
