Police shoot & kill 20 year old Hispanic man—after family told them he was having mental health crisis.

He was trying to harm himself with knife—nobody else.

"I should've never called for help," his aunt said.

"If they were just going to shoot him."

"He's mentally unstable... he wasn't trying to hurt the police whatsoever—he never pointed the knife at them."

Police issued a statement saying that Johnathan Delgado ignored commands to drop the knife—then walked toward them.

Chief said that the officers involved are under "administrative review."

Incident occurred in a back alley of north-central Phoenix, Arizona.

Honestly reading through the comments on that whole Chess.com vs Elon Twitter thread is driving me crazy. Everyone is just blindly clapping for a brand account doing a low-effort dunk, when the math they used was straight up wrong.

If you missed it, Elon posted that AI will eventually solve chess because the amount of non-stupid moves is actually pretty small. Chess.com replied with "skill issue" and then tried to hit him with facts, saying to solve chess you’d have to map out 10^120 possible games (the Shannon number), which is way more than the number of atoms in the universe.

Elon pushed back and said no, you should only care about unique board positions, which is around 10^44. And he’s just mathematically right here.

Chess.com cited 10^120 because it’s the total number of move combinations (games). But heaps of different move paths lead to the exact same position on the board. You don't need to count them all separately. 10^44 is still an insanely big number, but it’s 40 orders of magnitude smaller than the "atoms in the universe" stat Chess.com threw out just to sound smart and farm retweets.

Also, the idea that an AI has to map out every single bad move to solve a game is just not how game theory or chess engines work. You aggressively prune out lines where someone hangs a piece for no reason.

It’s just annoying seeing an official chess site act like a clout-chasing teenager throwing out snark, while thousands of people just parrot "haha Elon dumb" without actually reading what either side said. Dislike the guy all you want, but Chess.com was being dishonest here to win internet points. Shameful.
