With data centers already becoming a contentious issue in Raleigh, neighboring Cary has taken a different approach: an 18-month moratorium while it writes rules on power demand, water, noise and land use.

Cary officials say there is no pending large-scale application there and emphasized that the moratorium isn’t necessarily a rejection of future data centers.

Given the recent Raleigh debate, I’m curious whether people think writing the rules before a proposal arrives is preferable to dealing with projects case by case.

This is a question for either union members of either of these or anyone generally familiar with these two unions/types of work. I'm in North Caroline and I have a friend that works for 421 and one that works for 553, giving me someone to potentially vouch for me to get into them. I've done some research on both unions but I wanted some opinions from those with firsthand experience. How is the work like in them? Which one is harder and which one is more rewarding? If you had a choice, which would you rather go into? I'd be starting as an apprentice either way, so I know it might suck for a while.

I keep seeing this stated about UNC football but what exactly does it mean? Are they being compliant or are they telling people to act compliant and someone put the HR approved posters up in the locker room telling them to be compliant?

Does anyone know of places locally to pick up physical media? For new stuff I usually check Barnes & Noble (and hope they have a sale) or Walmart (limited selection...also the Wally by me SUCKS).

Hi all! I’m new to the area and looking for the best consignment or charity shops for women’s clothes. I don’t have a big budget and need some solid business casual pieces after a big weight loss. I’m around a size large/12/14 in women’s sizes.

I’m trying to help the family I babysit for with two kittens that keep coming around their home in Raleigh. They’ve been leaving food out for them and surprisingly can get really close to them but haven’t touched them. They’ve said they seem friendly and sweet and have been coming around the last past 3ish weeks. There was a third kitten with them but they haven’t seen it in a week and think it didn’t make it bc it looked skinny and sick.

We really want to catch them and bring them to a rescue/shelter but aren’t sure how to go about it. I have two cats but can’t afford to take them in. The family can’t take them either. How should we catch them? Should I call rescues or shelters to see if they have room?

Running into an issue with the PS5 overheating.

Things I’ve already tried:
• Doing a dusting of the console
• Replacing the power cord
• Overall system updated
• In an open ventilated area; now with a nearby fan to keep it cool(er)

Got the gaming system a few years ago (~2022/2023) and recently it’s been a hassle to play on.

I want to start off with an apology. I know a similar post was made recently. I just wanted to make one more tailored to me.

I live in Wendell and currently have a subscription to Planet Fitness in Knightdale. Looking for a better gym. Willing to drive into Raleigh. I would also be seeking a personal trainer and a facility with a sauna. Honestly not sure what type of a lifter I will be (powerlifting, bodybuilding, etc). I’ll work that out with the trainer.

I still have a long way to go if I intend to share all of the photographs I've collected since beginning my routine of walking early in the morning. Especially as I keep taking new ones as there's always something to be found, even on the same path I've taken over and over again.

September is here and slowly but surely, summer is coming to an end. The zinnia that once flourished like confetti over the trail have begun to be sparse, their blossoms just a splash of vibrant colour amongst the ashy browns of seasonal decay.But there's still plenty of green to be found, at least for now, and I'm going to make the most of it.

Compressor just went out on our 17 year old hvac. Comfort monster just came out and said we need to replace compressor for $4,200 or get a new system for $8k to $10k.

When we are driving on 540, cruise control on in a Hyundai Palisade. In what I would call the inner lanes (shout out to the old beltline which had usable direction descriptors)....traveling from highway 1 toward capital. Near mile marker 60. The car starts slowing down like there is a car in front of us is slowing dramatically.

Some invisible force interacts with the adaptive cruise. Every time. Same spot. Its a bridge, not obvious tolling infrastructure.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I saw an instragram post of someone going from Raleigh to Salisbury by train. But I am having a hard time finding how exactly you find the train destinations and schedules for where you can go by train. Does anyone know where I can find a map/time table?

I currently go to Renaissance Dental at North Hills for my dental work. I'm fairly happy with their work so far, but the prices feel atrocious. I wanted to ask if y'all can share approximately how much your dentist charges for things like crowns and onlays?

At renaissance dental, a porcelain crown costs roughly ~$1400 total, and an onlay is like ~$1600. This is all before insurance. Then they also offer a "protection plan" that costs an additional $200 for each crown/onlay, in case the material breaks within 5 years.

This should be a reminder to always make sure your doors are locked up after dark, no matter where you are. I’ve lived in Downtown Raleigh for years and this is definitely a first. Guy ran like hell when my Dad came running and screaming out the front door.
