Other [MOD POST] General Housekeeping 2025 (and a quick guide for job seekers!)

Upvotes

General Housekeeping 2025 (and a quick guide for job seekers!)

Hey y'all! It's time for our annual housekeeping post :) There's a few more action items at the bottom of the post, but I wanted to prioritize making a little guide for job seekers so they get the most out of using this sub as part of their job search.

What I've noticed:

Many posts by job seekers, both on this sub and on the Raleigh/Triangle general subs, are skeletal and contain very little, if any, information about the job seeker's background and experience, focusing instead on the sorts of jobs they're looking for or sticking to just a general "who's hiring?" These posts are rarely useful and don't get much traction.

What local recruiters & employers find most helpful:

More information about you! We don't expect you to post your full resume for all to see, but we probably won't reach out to a random screen name who just says "anyone hiring?" unless we know a little more about your experience and credentials. You can keep it high level ("I've mostly worked in food service, back of house") or you can get granular ("I did the barista training through Wake Tech's hospitality program, spent 5 years as a barista for a national chain, and now am the shift manager for a local coffee shop"). Any other preferences are helpful too (pay, benefits, schedule, location, etc.). None of this is required and your post won't be removed if you don't include this, but it certainly helps! Consider using the below format to structure your [FOR HIRE] post:

  • What I'm looking for:

  • My relevant experience and training:

  • Additional info: (put pay needs, location, or any other information here!)

About personal information / resumes:

While the sub doesn't bar folks from sharing personal contact information or full resumes in posts, we do discourage it. Most of Reddit, including this sub, is part of the open web, so it's viewable by anyone without an account, and despite the API changes is still scraped on occasion. Users are encouraged to share personal identifying information via Reddit's private chat system instead of in posts or comments. If you do want to share contact information in a post or comment, it's recommended to set up a Google Voice number and throwaway email to protect your privacy. You may also want to create a sockpuppet Reddit account to chat with employers and recruiters if your regular account contains content history that includes protected information (like medical or criminal history), NSFW material, or anything else you might want to keep private.

That's it for the quick guide for job seekers! Hope it helps :)

Now onto the rest of the housekeeping--

A few more things of note:

  • On embedding text in image or video files: If your job listing or resume is embedded in an image or video, please consider transcribing it in plain text in the body of the post as well. Text embedded in images or videos is not indexed by Reddit or search engines, which negatively impacts visibility AND rediscoverability.

  • On self-censorship / "algospeak": While it's increasingly common for other platforms like Tiktok to shadowban or remove posts and comments that use curse words and similar, this does not apply on TriangleJobs (or on most of Reddit, frankly). All content, (including content caught in our automod filters!) is manually evaluated, and content filtering/removal happens on a case-by-case basis per sub rules and automod scripts that I made myself. Please refrain from using asterisks or intentional misspellings to censor your posts and comments, as it reduces the effectiveness of both my moderation tools and individual users' custom content tools.

  • On AI-generated content: Using generative AI tools to augment your resume or job listing is totally fine! But since this sub is meant for meaningful discussion and for making connections between local employers, job seekers, and recruiters, we do not permit fully AI-generated content or bot account participation.

  • On subreddit formatting across devices: Once again, I am a vintage Redditor and interact with Reddit exclusively through my computer in the Old Reddit layout. If there are any glitches or irregularities with the sub on New Reddit, New New Reddit, or the mobile app, please message me so I can fix it because I won't catch it otherwise!

As a final reminder: All job listings must follow federal, state, and local employment laws. This includes laws about what can constitute as a 1099 vs. a W2 employee, laws about what qualifies as an unpaid internship, and laws about minimum wage. The sub also does not permit most commission-only or canvassing work, and only permits volunteer opportunities for nonprofit organizations.

Thanks again for using the sub, & happy hiring / job hunting!

Other [MOD POST] Scam Alert - "Online Part-time Jobs"

Upvotes

Hey y'all, want to make sure everyone stays safe out there and is aware of a scam that's been going around this sub and some other job search subs.

Scammers are leaving comments or sending chats offering job seekers an "online part-time job." They are very vague about the type of work, and offer between $50-300/week, sometimes more. If you respond to them via chat, they will ask to remote into your computer, usually through a remote desktop application called AnyDesk.

Needless to say, do not allow them access to your PC.

If one of your posts on r/trianglejobs receives a comment like this, please report the comment right away. If you receive a DM like this, please message me (either personally or via the "message the mods" function on TriangleJobs) with the account's username and a screenshot of the message you received. Thanks for helping keep this sub safe for job seekers!

Any graphic design job leads?

Upvotes

Hey! So I moved back to the triangle for family reasons and unfortunately couldnt get a job lined up before coming. I've been having issues finding a job in my field. Before coming to the triangle area, I was a designer for a federal hospital in tx for around 5 years. I'd really appreciate any leads. Doesnt have to be remote but I have also worked remote and understand the proceedures for that sort of atmosphere. Any leads would be really appreciated!

Other Have a degree, how do I get out of the service industry?

Upvotes

Hey guys, I'm interested in hearing ideas for long-term career paths that I could look into in this area. Maybe someone here has some insight into something I wouldn't have otherwise considered.

Basically I'm 30 years old and I work as a shift manager/supervisor at a busy coffee shop. It's a fun enough job and it pays enough for me to live comfortably right now (with roommates), but I feel like I'm capable of more and I just really want to pivot into something more long-term.

I have a bachelor's degree in history, but I was kind of naive about it and never had a serious plan for how I'd use that. When I was a teenager picking a major, it looked like there were plenty of opportunities in that field. I was never fortunate enough for any of those opportunities to ever come my way. It certainly didn't help that I graduated the year before COVID.

I worked as a hotel night auditor before switching to coffee for the better pay and benefits. I've applied to a bunch of positions related to museum and library work with no luck getting interviews. I'm older now and open to less glamorous stuff.

I'm pretty tech literate but not certified in anything, aside from a cert for Microsoft Office that I got through a course back in high school. I comfortably type 90wpm. I used to be a math tutor for middle school and high school students. I've done a lot of random extracurricular stuff in my past like JROTC, sports, etc. As a teenager I was thinking about the military because it's what my dad did, but certain health issues disqualified me.

At my age in the era of AI I'm so anxious about investing a lot of time trying to upskill in a way that will be obsolete in 5 years, or in a way that won't actually land me a job. How do I get my foot into the door of a better industry?

Upvotes

Howdy howdy yall. I’m the manager at Premier 1 Automotive and we’re looking for a B+ technician to join the team.

We specialize in European vehicles and do any and every kind of mechanical/electrical work on them with the exception of tires and alignments.

We’re ready to make a very strong offer to the right candidate.

We’ve been in business for 16 years.

We operate M-F, 8-6; so your weekends are yours.

We provide paid holidays.

We currently have two master techs, and the owner himself is a long time master tech; so he helps in the shop when needed.

While we’re ideally looking for two more master techs, we’d be happy to provide the training and experience to bring a B or A tech to the master level.

A master tech can expect a six figure income in our shop.

We’re located just off of Ten Ten Rd in Apex.

So if you’re a technician looking for a new home, or if you know one that may be interested, shoot me a DM for more details.

Recently laid off. Looking for work.

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I was recently let go from my role and am actively looking for my next opportunity.

I have several years of experience across Customer Support, Technical Support, Product Operations, and Product Management. Most recently, I worked at an early-stage fintech company where I supported customers, worked closely with engineering/product, improved internal processes, and transitioned into a Product Manager role.

I’m primarily looking for opportunities in:
- Customer Support / Technical Support
- Customer Success
- Product Operations
- Product Management

That said, I’m also open to warehouse, manufacturing, or other labor positions. I’m willing to work hard and am specifically looking for evening/night shifts, late shifts, or overnight work for these roles.

I’m based in the Triangle and am open to remote, hybrid, or in-person opportunities depending on the role.

If your company is hiring or you know of something that might be a good fit, I’d really appreciate a connection or a point in the right direction. 🙏

Other Do any companies accept walk-in candidates?

Upvotes

My partner has been actively looking/applying for jobs since past 4 months. We were discussing if it would be a good idea to walk-in at some of the companies to hand them over his resume. I am sure large firms will not accept walk-ins but what about smaller firms? Has anyone had any luck doing this?

He is looking for project coordinator/assistant project manager roles.

Other Triangle tech workers looking to network?

Upvotes

I work for Red Hat in a data analysis/business analysis function, and am looking to network with other folks working in tech in the Triangle. This job market makes me weary to look at new opportunities, but I want to get a lay of the land for future work possibilities. Plus I'm happy to share my own insights/thoughts on my own place of work.

I'm interested in hearing what life looks like at other tech firms, especially smaller ones. That said, I'd also love to connect if you work at a big company like IBM, SAS, or other places with a Triangle footprint. Let me know if you want to chat!

For Hire For hire: project management/ISO compliance guy

Upvotes

FOR HIRE

Hey y'all! I'm an ISO 9001 quality architect and PMP looking for...kind of anything. I've done both ISO and project management/coordination for about 20 years and have been in IT even longer than that. I've worked with healthcare systems, local and tribal governments, enterprise organizations, SMBs, higher ed--you name it. My search experience so far has been that healthcare wants only healthcare; software wants only software; rinse and repeat. I can't help that I'm more of a generalist when it comes to my background.

I'm highly organized, comfortable with ambiguous projects, and am a world-class cat herder.

At this point, I'd be happy with part time as a 1099; there's no job too small. Help?

For Hire Thinking of changing careers

Upvotes

Hey Triangle residents. I’m currently working in the hospitality industry but my lifelong dream career has been architectural drafting and design. I haven’t gone to school for it yet. I was wondering if there are any companies in the area who would hire someone part time to learn the processes of CAD drawings and becoming an architect. Maybe do a trade school program where I would work and do classes at the same time. I know it’s a long shot, but Wayne Gretzky said “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

For Hire Job Change in Triangle Area

Upvotes

I know this is a long shot but I want some opinions.

I’m currently working as a freight broker and nearing my 6 month mark and I’m realizing that sales/cold call prospecting is just not for me. I love the other aspects of the role such as the load tracking, booking/dispatching, and the operational sides of things.

Since my role has sort of built in termination date at the end of the training period, I want to be proactive and see what other options are there in the field. I intend to stay and gather as much information and training beforehand but I want to be realistic about my position and plan ahead.

I graduated about 2 years ago with a bachelor’s for Logistics and Supply chain management with a minor in business administration but I just want to hear some of the paths you guys took. I do have a few years of leasing experience in both student and conventional areas as well.

Any constructive feedback or job openings are much appreciated, thank you.

For Hire Anyone know of a place hiring entry-level technical writers/editors/something adjacent?

Upvotes

I know, I know, AI, and all that...

But there has to be SOMETHING left.

I graduated in 2019 from Metropolitan State University in Denver, CO. Moved out here because I thought there would be more opportunities on the east coast, but then I got sick, and ended up back in retail. Now I'm better. I've taken on some freelance work over the years, editing personal statements for college students, training AI, and even editing a friend's novel, but I'd really like to land a steady job utilizing my skills 9-5. I'm looking for anything that would give me that concrete work experience to bolster my resume - or someone I could reach out to to set up an informational interview, to figure out how to get there. I can't tell you how many emails I've written for my boss. How many training documents at work I've seen that are riddled with spelling errors, or just plain incoherent. We need real humans with writing skills more than ever. Can anyone help me out?
