Update Garfields home!

After a long wait, on saturday night Garfield took his first steps in our home, first night consisted of lots of howling, and the past couple of days have been smooth sailing! Hes fast asleep on the windowsill (first picture) and is very happy he can get cuddles whenever he wants without worrying about dogs coming in his face. Hes found several hidey holes and prefers staying in the bedroom. Hes eating and drinking, and stank up the flat after 48 hours, was not happy when my partner bagged it and took it out immediately šŸ˜‚. He likes shouting at me so he can lie on me for bed, will not like tonight because its the first time he wont have that option (i am resetting my sleep for my night shifts so need to stay awake), hopefully my partner will distract him enough to keep him happy. Im still in disbelief hes actually home but im so happy he is.

So most of the cats don't like it when you touch their stomach ( or at least the cats I have seen). But my cat likes when I pet him on his stomach. 😭. I hope everything is fine with him.

Medical Questions What is this goop? NSFW

Last night we noticed my cat got into the garbage somehow and ate some tin foil about 2 square inches. This morning she didn't want breakfast. Checked her poop and it looked kike the pic below. There was also something goopy in there. Anyone know what this is? We're gonna take her in.

Edit: those "coffee grounds" looking pieces are not poop, it's just the walnut shell litter. Called the ER and they said to just monitor her for the next 12 hours and observe whether she starts over salivating and becomes lethargic. Was surprised by this response tbh but they're the pros.

Advice Cat is missing, unexplainable disappearance

I’m as confused as I am devastated. My cat Kingston seemingly vanished into thin air yesterday. I live with just me and my mom and the last time either of us saw him was Sunday night around dinner time. Yesterday morning he was gone. We spent 10+ hours combing over every little corner and hiding spot and nook in this house but he is just not here.

However, there is no way he could’ve gotten out!? Neither of us left the house or even opened any doors or windows. There is no exit point anywhere. King would never leave regardless even if he was sitting in front of a wide open door.

I’m feeling so lost right now and I don’t know if I should keep looking here or focus my efforts under the impression that he escaped. He is a giant baby with no survival instinct so I really worry for him if he is outside somehow.

This cat is my entire life man I don’t know what I’m going to do. I don’t even really know why I’m posting this I guess I’m just shouting out into the void and looking for any advice.

(Yes he is chipped)

Medical Questions Curing stubborn cat acne?

Thumbnail

I first noticed my cats chin acne a few months ago. Since then I have been trying switching to metal bowls that are always clean (no more plastic), cleanser for cat acne with a warm compress, taken him to the vet twice and they gave him antibiotics and coconut oil. It goes through periods of getting a bit better and I think something is helping but ultimately it’s still much worse than when I first noticed it.
He is constantly rubbing the affected area on whatever he can, I’ve heard it can help to make sure everything is clean but my house is already very clean as I live with my mum and cleaning is her passion and I have also seen him doing it outside in the garden. I was thinking maybe I should talk to the cat about using a cone to stop this? But he is also an excessive dribbler which I can’t really control and this of course gets all over his chin. If he’s just eaten and had whatever else in his mouth and starts dribbling I can’t imagine it’s helping to heal the acne.

Im curious if anyone else had this situation and found a solution that worked? I assume it bothers him and the rubbing is due to it itching so I hope to found something that works soon.
Thank you :)

Cat Picture - OC The World Beyond the Glass

Sometimes there is nothing to do but sit quietly and watch the world pass by.

Rain falls against the window, distorting everything beyond it into fragments of light and shadow. Inside, a lone cat sits patiently, gazing into the distance—as if contemplating a world it can see but cannot quite reach.

There’s something beautiful about these quiet moments. No movement. No urgency. Just rain, reflection, and a small soul watching the world go by.

Perhaps peace isn’t always found in escaping the storm. Sometimes it’s simply found in sitting beside the window and watching it fall. šŸ–¤šŸˆā€ā¬›šŸŒ§ļø

Medical Questions Strange Symptoms

Upvotes

Before I go into much detail, I want to start by saying that I have taken my cat to the vet three different times.

About two weeks ago, my older cat (he is going to be three next month, and he is neutered), began dry heaving with nothing coming out. He was NOT making a sound when doing this; he would just look like he was about to throw up. After about a day of this repeatedly happening, I took him to the vet. He is not the best at the vet, so the exam was limiting. I consented to them sedating him, but they said that I shouldn’t jump to that yet. They gave him a hairball lubricant (despite me telling them that he’s never had a hairball before) and said to wait a few days and then we would escalate diagnostics.

Two days later, my cat became very secluded and began hiding in unusual spots; he was also now becoming defensive towards my family and our other pets, growling and hissing whenever anyone would approach him. During one of these nights, he sat on my toilet staring at the floor the entire night while still doing the dry heaving, but he was also now lip smacking and drooling. I called the vet, but they had no appointments, so I took him to the emergency vet. The emergency vet was a bit of a frustrating experience. The doctor was very kind, but he said he did not think it was appropriate to conduct diagnostics that day because my cat had eaten that morning. He said my cat still had pink and wet gums and that he wasn’t vomiting or struggling to breathe, so he wanted to wait to be able to conduct all diagnostics in one day. Here was his main issue: Like I said, my cat is not great at the vet, so he needs to be sedated. He said he could perform other diagnostics but that if those revealed nothing, my cat would have to be sedated AGAIN in order to undergo the ultrasound, which he wanted to avoid. This was understandable. He said to try a few more days with the hairball lubricant and that if it continued, to bring him back.

Two days later, my cat completely stopped eating and the other symptoms remained. He also had developed a new symptom, he isolated himself and did not even come out to use the restroom. I had to place him in the cat litter and then he proceeded to urinate a large amount. I left him in his own room, so I don’t think it was stress from other animals. So, I took him back to the emergency vet. They did an extremely thorough workup. They sedated him, did a thorough check of his mouth, did bloodwork, and completed the abdominal ultrasound. They even had an internal medicine specialist come in to examine him because of how quickly his symptoms had escalated. When conducting the oral exam, the doctor said that he used a tongue depressor to look as far down the throat as possible. He said he saw absolutely nothing and was ā€œdoubtfulā€ of the original hairball diagnosis. They found some relatively minor findings. According to the doctor, he had a mild elevation of his WBC, some very subtle swelling in his lower mouth (but not associated with a fracture, injury, bad tooth, etc. according to the doctor’s physical exam.), and some very mild GI swelling. The doctor said that he was not sure if this fully explained the symptoms, but he wanted to treat what he was able to find. So, he gave my cat an antibiotic injection, a nausea injection, and a pain injection. He also gave me nausea and pain medicine to administer at home. As soon he came home, he immediately ate multiple servings of food, so I figured things were working, but then he started becoming more secluded again. I administer his medications as directed, but they seem to only make him sleepy without actually relieving the symptoms.

Now, he is continuing to show defensive behavior but only towards my kitten (and us when we approach to separate them; he has not attacked her); he tolerates the other animals (all dogs), even they approach him. Prior to these symptoms, he was tolerant of the kitten. I won’t say they were best friends, but they would sleep together, and he had completely stopped hissing at her for an entire month and a half prior to this. Now, even the sight of her causes him to hiss and growl, and he is still dry heaving, hiding, drooling, lip smacking, etc. Part of me wonders if this is behavioral, but, as I said, he was very tolerant of her, and this all happened after he started dry heaving and acting off. I’m not sure that behavioral concerns would cause this constellation of symptoms? Recently, I’ve noticed that some dry heaving is now accompanied by a loud hacking sound. He does not always do this, but when it does happen, it sounds concerning.

I plan to take him back to the vet, but I was hoping for some advice on what to specifically ask for. I have presented his symptoms to four different doctors who have not been able to provide a satisfying solution/diagnosis. Has anyone’s cat gone through anything similar? Any advice is appreciated. Right now, I have him in his own room with food and water, but he is still hiding and strongly prefers to be isolated into a corner when he is out. I’m trying my best to help him.

To clarify: I am not asking for medical advice or a diagnosis. I mainly want to know what questions or tests I can ask the doctor in order to help him.

Medical Questions Whats wrong with this cat???

Post image
Upvotes

This cat is losing hair and limping and also has scars where the hair is lost. I tried keeping him in a contained area where I can monitor him. Is it serious?? The scars are mostly on his legs and fingers.

Can anyone identify what's the cause??? There are too many to be caused by fights He wont let me touch or get close to it and runs furiously when I try to get close to it. Is there a non-aggressive way to capture and put it in a box?
