Hi! My GF and I just moved in together to a small department two months ago. This past week she adopted a two months old kitty, a baby of five from her father's older female cat.
I was vocal that I didn't want a pet in the apartment, since it's very small and we both work all day, but agreed with her to adopt the kitty since she's been wanting a pet of her own since years ago.
I do like pets, but I'm getting really annoyed with the cat very fast, since it meows a lot for hours since sunrise and follows me meowing since I wake up to get ready to leave to work. It wakes at night wanting to play. It sleeps with us because he meows really loud if we let it out of the room, and we don't want to disturb the neighbors sleep.
I understand that it feels alone since it was separated from its siblings and previous home, and that now we are its family. Also that it is normal cat behaviour to want attention, and stimulation when we are at home because it must be asleep most the time we are not home, especially because it is a baby kitten. But the constant meowing for attention and wanting to be at my side all the time is really getting into my nerves, since now I don't have any quiet time in my own home (I do treasure silence a lot).
Does this behaviour goes away eventually? Besides playing with it at night so it sleeps during night time, Is there anything else I can do to make it to stop meowing constantly? Is there a way to get it to sleep outside the bedroom? I miss cuddling with my GF at night 'cause the cat likes to sleep between us.
I know I might be the problem, but I don't want to break my GFs illusion of having a pet with us. I know I need to learn patience (I get frustrated really fast with loud crying children and babies). What could I do? I feel that we have to reshape our routines to fit the cat's and I'm afraid our home starts becoming the opposite of a peaceful place for the constant meowing.
