Hey folks,

I recently bought a PlayStation 3 and started buying a few games based on recommendations from friends. So far I've finished Dead Space, Dishonored, Metal Gear Solid Rising, Castlevania: Lord of Shadow and all of them have been great fun.

I was always curious about Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls when they came out but I know both are a bit divisive, with some people loving them and others absolutely hating them.

What is your take on them? Is it worth playing them or should I skip them and get something else.

PS: I do have a few other titles in my radar: God of War 3, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, the Metal Gear Solid series (MGS HD Collection, MGS 4, MGS 5: GZ, MGS 5: TPP) and Grand Turismo 5 & 6 but right now I'm looking for something different than just action or racing games since I already play a lot of those on PC.

PS2: Forgot to say that I can get both for around $10 USD, so if I don't like them at least it is not a huge loss money-wise.

I've played all Metal Gear games and Revengeance was very important to me for understanding Raiden's side story before his MGS 4 farewell. Would've loved to have everything in one massive collection!

Another series that comes to mind is God of War. They bundled together every entry, even the PSP ones, but forgot Ascension!

These games are super rare where I live, Revengeance was also sealed. All for about 50 bucks.

I got this from my friend and honestly have no idea what this game is about.

I recently purchased and received my very first ps3. I had it imported for Japan. Ive repasted it, put on new thermal pads, gave it a good cleaning, Put evilnat on it, got webman going and switched the O & X configuration over. I love the satin silver look.

Just going through my collection and noticed I had 2 different copies of Toy Story 3 for the Playstation 3.

I cannot find any info on the silver foil variant (Right), it also has a completely different artwork on the disc.
I only have the Manual for the Silver foil variant so I can't really compare the 2 (Last 2 photos).

I assume it's a first print situation, maybe?

The silver foil variant seems to be quite uncommon/rare online.

I only played the PS2 version but I heard it's different from the PS3 version.
One thing that caught my attention with this game is that it's in Arabic, which might not be a big deal today, but back then games with Arabic translation was impossible to find, this is the first officially Arabic translated game.

So we're obviously all aware the store page has gone to pot. I've seen US users are able to just scroll across to a PSONE category on their store page, but the UK page is built differently. Going to "All games" doesn't bring them up - hell, the filter doesn't seem to think there ARE any on there. The playstation store finder doesn't even seem to work (I had the storepage open and logged into on a separate tab and the area was set to GB, before you ask). Does anyone have any advice on how to circumvent this?? I just wanna play Silent Hill without spending over £100 lol

Just picked up the Darkness and FF 13 trilogy (now that I doubt there will be a remaster) and think I just about completed my personal PS3 collection most of which I managed to have held onto since HS and luckily didn’t have to deal with the recent boom. I mostly kept the games that are stuck on PS3 transitioning a bulk of the games to their more definitive versions (PS4/PS5/Switch) with the exception of:

A few childhood favorites that I am actually close to getting platinums for (RE 5, Red Faction Guerrilla, and Uncharted 1-3) A few I didn’t like enough to upgrade [GTA 5, and the Walking Dead (loved only season 1)] And AC 3 because the PS4 port is trash.

I may add Darkness 2 if I enjoy the first but you gotta honestly balance the FOMO against the time and willingness to actually play through a game. Web of Shadows would be a cool pick up too but not for $250+

I was wondering what my PS3 stats are and wanted them to be seen while i play games. Is this possible to install? If yes, will it corrupt or delete my custom filmware? Please tell me where can i find tutorial or tell me step by step. Thanks.

I’ve been working on custom PS3 hardware projects for a while, and after my PS3 Pro V3, I decided to see how far I can take the idea.
The goal is a PS3 Pro V4 built around performance rather than keeping the console stock.
I’m planning:
• Cell + RSX overclocking
• custom hardware modifications
• improved power delivery
• water cooling
• custom electronics
• a completely custom enclosure
• extensive testing to find the limits of the hardware
The interesting part for me isn’t simply making a faster PS3. I want to answer a question:
How much performance can we actually get from this 2006-era hardware if we remove some of the limitations of the original design?
The V3 already exists and has been tested, so V4 is the next step rather than just an idea.
I’ve started a crowdfunding campaign to help cover the hardware, components and prototyping needed for the build.

What would you change or improve in a PS3 Pro V4?

Tried to look up options bc my drive seemingly died?
But for ssd, I can’t find any good options. I think the lowest I saw was 128g for 29$ idek if it has dRam.

Surprisingly, mechanical drives looked to be almost just as costly.

I don’t need to off the line I think but I can’t justify spending even fifty buck rn.

Haven’t drives been cheap? Or Ida’s this bc of something happening?

I have a FAT PS3 Model CECHL03, and I wanted to share the predicament I am facing and get some opinions on what might have gone wrong.

Last year, I had to replace the USB block because one of the USB ports was damaged. Everything went fine after the replacement. I also changed the thermal paste at that time, and the PS3 worked great afterward.

Yesterday, I played FIFA Street 3 for about 4 hours, and everything worked smoothly. The RSX and CPU temperatures were around 59°C, with the fan speed at 35%.

Today, I tried to play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (US Edition) in split-screen multiplayer because I wanted to play with a friend. The PS3 turned off every time I tried to run the split-screen multiplayer mode. After about four attempts, I uninstalled the game and installed Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (European Edition) instead. This fixed the problem, and the PS3 did not turn off.

However, after a while, the PS3 stopped giving any display through HDMI. I got worried and tried using the AV cable. The display did come on through the AV Multi Out. Obviously, the picture quality is not nearly as good as HDMI.

I then closed everything and inspected the HDMI port. I noticed that there is a burning smell coming from the HDMI port.

What kind of problem could this be? Do I need to replace the HDMI port, HDMI AV encoder, diode/resistor, or could something else have failed?

I also tried a different HDMI cable and connected the PS3 to a different TV, but the problem persists.

I have attached photos of all the ports.

I would really appreciate any guidance or advice on what might have happened and what components I should have checked.

The ps2 continued as the 3rd most used console in Brazil till 2020 I think. What about the ps3?

My Fat ps3 model cechh04 has this weird issue where I play GTA5 and after about half an hour of it being pretty quiet the fan suddenly turns to full blast and even after closing the game and letting it sit it will never slow down the fan until it’s restarted, where it will then be normal and quiet again.

Also, while it is doing this the air coming out the back is barely warm after around a minute of the fan on full blast.

I changed the thermal paste with Arctic MX4 and the console is clean. This also doesn’t happen with other games.

What could be causing this?

Has been annoying that I got my Super Slim PS3 no longer registering any WiFi signal.

I have been reading about current generation routers for some reason, "clouding" the PS3 enough for it not to function, but I find it incredibly-incredible that this is the most probably thing that is close to this sudden non-functioning.

To make matter worse, I factory reset my PS3 apparently unnecessarily and not I cannot force a USB Firmware factory reset, but it seems that even uploading the new firmware, WiFi appeast ro be dead.

Am I the only one?
