I tnink so because Jodie deserves a somewhat normal life after everything she has gone throug. The first time I choose life. I spend it with Ryan. Who do you think is the best person for Jodie to spend life with?
r/beyondtwosouls • u/Toogeloo • 2d ago
Having seen all the endings and what not, I think saving everyone except Norah, and choosing life with either being Alone or with Zoey are the best endings.
Jodie Holmes is a definite contender for one of my favorite characters in a video game. I felt so empathetic to her journey, and I was sad for all the parts where she was taken advantage of or treated poorly, and I was tearfully happy for all the times she became empowered and had personal wins. Aiden is a great character as well, which is amazing considering you never see him and you only start to learn about him late in the game.
I generally enjoyed the overall story, though there were several parts that felt poorly played out. Almost all the support characters were generally pretty well written... except Ryan. Fuck that guy (I've made that point before, it doesn't need to be rehashed again).
This game is one of those games that will sit with me for a while and I am going to need to play something like a Lego game just to decompress and kind of wash my mental palate. Such a touching game.
After I have shaken the emotional weight of this game off, I plan to play Detroit Become Human.

I'm replaying the game and the first time I got to "Not like other girls," Jodie was in Goth attire. But this time she is dressed normally.
Is there a choice made earlier that changes the way she presents herself?

I reported this 3 years ago to the Quantic Dream support and decided to share this since, apparently, no one else hears it or is bothered by it the same way I am. Here to share the pain:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JhzFn7n1UM
Explanation: You can see a white blip at the bottom-right corner in the second half of the video whenever the audio stutter/bump in the soundtrack was audible to me. This is also present in game, just less easy to notice since there is usually a lot of other stuff going on. When you see the main menu, it is from the bugged game; when you see the soundtrack cover, it is straight from the digital soundtrack release (forgot which one), where this is not present at all.
The video is delisted because of the soundtrack licence.
I love the game, but somehow, the audio issues in modern releases and especially "remasters" are multiplying, and all the big outlets are occupied solely with visuals. And today, I felt really sad about that đ˘

So as you know there are like many, tons of sub categories of goth, she strikes me more as the one that could listen to a lot of The Killers and Panic at the disco, not so heavy metal, maybe a little Within Temptation and Nightwish, what do you think?

i went into it without any trailers or reading anything as suggested, opted for the original non linear order as advised and iâm absolutely mind blown, i seriously have no idea where the story is gonna go next, im about 3 hours in, other than a few controls that feel a bit dated (which is a given, this game was made for ps3 if im not mistaken), im captivated!
thank you to all who responded to my last post, definitely donât regret spending my money on this lol

Ryan's character pissed me off so much. I denied him at every turn that I could towards the end, but it still felt like the game was steering me towards him.
Other than that, I really like the game and looking forward to cleanup.
I played with two controllers and set the game to Duo when I first started, and whenever I came back to it, I made sure I used two controllers and picked Continue, but the trophy didn't pop at the end, so no idea what I did wrong there.
I did manage to save everyone and I picked to return to my homeless gang at the end.

Just got the collection with Heavy Rain & Beyond Two Souls. Iâm a very curious person lol, so usually before I get into a game I watch spoiler free videos, edits, read things etc. Should I do this with Beyond Two Souls or do I just go into it completely blind? All I know about this game is a short description from one of my friends who loves it very much.

Played it around a decade ago when I was 9 ish and now at 19 I still remember it vividly. Went through it again last year.
I get literal CHILLS when I see the game mentioned.
Idk how they did it but damn this is one of the very very very few games that impacted me to such a level. I believe it impacted the way I even interpret and view the concept of life and death. Aiden and Jodie will always be somewhere in the back of my mind
Truly the most beautiful experience I've ever had
I'm so glad I got to play it
If you're thinking about playing please do so, I'm confident you'll get your soul trapped in it (in a good way)

okay so introduction: i bought this game initially because i knew it was popular, i had heard good things about it, and it starred elliot page and i love him. i had entirely zero clue of the plot, storyline, or even other actors and characters in the game.
i played the game in its intended order with the memories all jumbled up, so my review will be from that pov.
i have also played detroit become human and learned they were from the same company/writer. detroit become human is one of my favourite games and i have replayed it 8+ times and counting fully through... so my expectations admittedly were very high (that said, i know david cage is a weirdo and that dbh has its own errors)
final note: spoilers for the entire game!!!! and this is heavily opinions based so feel free to discuss in the comments :) i want to know other povs and opinions
the pros:
- i LOVED the beginning of the game. absolutely hooked. i loved learning about jodie and aiden and trying to piece together her memories and just playing as her in general, it was very fun and unique
- i fell in LOVE with jodie and nathan/cole's relationship but especially with nathan since i am just a sucker for found parent/child relationships in media (which is why i also love kara's storyline in dbh) and they were my favourite dynamic in the whole game
- the plot (i think) is genuinely good! i liked the world building around the infraworld and the entities and whatnot, moreso at the beginning however.
the game makes you care about jodie and a lot of other characters, even if theyre only in one chapter. for example, i loved the "homeless" chapter it's my absolute fave and i chose to stay with zoey at the end of the game :D
now the cons...
- the game is pretty racist..... which is not technically surprising if you know cage... but wow. the navajo chapter, while i enjoyed the characters and such, the stereotypes in there about indigenous culture went crazy. i was also unsure how to feel about the plot about the chinese government trying to steal info about the infraworld, and the chapter in somalia, but i'm not as well informed in those areas. jodie kind of felt like the "white saviour" trope in these chapters.
- the controls are SHIT. and i knew what i was getting into since i figured they would be similar to detroit's controls but... god. the quick time events were extremely weird to try and hit as you have to predict which way the game intends you to interpret jodie's movements and then move your mouse the same direction..? that, and the tiny little dot that u have to move ur mouse to interact with things was so confusing. which way do i move it and for how long??? i never knew. the fixed camera angles were also pretty bad, my personal opinion.
- probably the worst part of the game for me (which is why i hated the last parts but loved the beginning/middle) was the forced romance between jodie and ryan. like, very forced. first of all, in my personal opinion, their relationship is just built on a weird base. i could have MAYBE seen it working out if he hadn't made the "adolescents these days" remark when meeting her, and also the fact she was like 17 and he was already probably late 20s to early 30s. and all throughout the game he was like "ive been divorced two years" and "a cia agent for 10 years" and i kept wondering how fucking old is this guy???? completely irked my soul. but it wasn't the worst thing in the world. not yet. i declined him at every chance the game gave me (didn't fuck things up as aiden in the dinner chapter but i DID reject him and decline every kiss thereafter) but things all went downhill in that chapter when u have to destroy the underwater condenser or smth (forgot the name of the chaps sorry). that chapter was pure shit. so ryan and jodie are forced to work together because if she does, she'll be let off from the cia with no repercussions. cool. i dont mind. ryan was still in love with her i guess, but i feigned rejection. that was until they were inside that dust storm thingie (again i forget, i was mentally checked out of the game at this point,,,) and they just suddenly kissed???? absolutely no choice from me, ryan just kissed jodie and she reciprocated. RIGHT AFTER HER SURROGATE DAD DIED MIND YOU (but i'm getting to THAT point after.) i was so gagged. i know jodie's feelings for ryan were canon regardless of choice, i get that, but it feels like all my effort to keep that creep away from jodie js went out the damn window. which was total whiplash considering, in my opinion, dbh is THE BEST choice based game i have ever played. but okay... thankfully i guess they ended up breaking up in my ending when i chose to stay with zoey but this whole romance thing was weird to me start to finish.
- my second biggest irk... the circumstances of nathan's death. like i said before, nathan and jodie were my favourite part of the whole game and i fell in love with their dynamic. it broke my heart to see him so wracked with grief at the end for his family to the point he was hurting so many people just to be with them again. i wanted to work things out with him despite everything he was doing. in the dust storm, i tried to convince him to stop and come back and let jodie turn the condenser (or whatever it was) off. instead he shoots himself dead RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER and immediately. i mean IMMEDIATELY, his ghost form pops up and hugs his family in the afterlife. and they smile. jodie fucking smiles even though her father figure just shot himself right in front of her... and my immediate thought was: "what kind of message is this sending suicidal people????" i mean seriously, this was just the worst. the moral of nathan's story was just "kill yourself to be with your loved ones and you will finally be happy". i mean god, ive been suicidal all my life but if i wasn't in a stable place right now who knows how i may have taken that scene??? or other people interpreting that scene??? and i thought, okay, maybe there will be a scene of jodie grieving him after everything is over. i mean, nathan was an important person to her despite the cruel things he did at the end of his life. nope. i understand she had also lost aiden by the end of the game, but she could have grieved them both in her ending monologue, at least MENTIONED him. i just feel so hurt because they were my favourite parts of the game and then suddenly.., nothing. nathan did not mean anything to jodie or to anyone, and all he taught us was that we should kill ourselves to be with our dead loved ones. (you can tell i QUICKLY chose life in the life or beyond choice right after, because i also felt that was a ridiculous decision.)
- one minor con, but aiden's powers are incredibly inconsistent, but i wasn't too mad about this considering the android's abilities in dbh were also like this. for example, aiden can only phase through certain walls sometimes, only possess certain people and loses this ability when they do a certain action, only strangle certain people, etc. whatever is most convinient in the moment. it's pretty weird, but not the worst.
another small nitpick, but the party chapter was so cliche and weirdđ i knew exactly what was gonna happen with every dialogue choice. of course i fucked that house up afterwards and had a blast doing it, but the entire thing was just badly written
these are just my takeaways from the game! i read other reviews similar to mine but i didnt really have issue with jodie's ability to attempt more than once (i actually think it was a good addition to show her mental state during those moments, although jarring) and didn't think the game was "too sad" as i think there were also wholesome and funny moments. i simply felt compelled to write a review since i was so incredibly disappointed after i finished since it started off so well, and my expectations were so high due to dbh... it had all the right pieces but couldn't put them together, as bojack horseman might say (shoutout)
anyways like i said, this is mostly personal preference/opinion and i'd love to hear other points of discussion from people who adored this game or absolutely hated it :) safe to say i don't think i'll be replaying this anytime soon or maybe ever... shout out elliot page again.

so i just bought the game on Steam and i absolutely love it,i got the worst ending though bc i suck at combat buttons so much (i die and i get on the endless void with entities) and i just saw the news that Elliot Page will be producing the adaptation to Beyond Two Souls, who do you think is best to play Jodie? Im thinking of Carey Mulligan for older version, younger can be one of the girls from The Testaments the spin off of The Handmaiden's Tale would be great too, what do you think? im excited and i completely trust Elliot to take the helm of this unique story

Yes, there are inconsistencies and plot holes. The romances werenât thought out particularly well, and Aidenâs powers get switched on and off whenever the narrative needs them. But the central concept is strong, and the execution is excellent. I stayed fully engaged the entire time, even with the non-chronological structure, which occasionally felt off but never really bothered me. I played for hours straight, had to leave for work for a few days, then came back a week later and played until 6 a.m. Itâs easily one of my favourites of all time. Thatâs coming from someone whoâs been deep into games, TV, and films since I was a kid. There were plenty of moments that genuinely touched me, which rarely happens.
The biggest narrative issue that jumped out at me is how aggressively the game pushes a relationship with Ryan. Reject the romance once or twice and it just keeps throwing more chances at you, often very abruptly, even if youâve been extremely negative toward him. The game simply forgets previous interactions. Most people whoâve played it know exactly what I mean.
I want to talk about the endings and which one felt most coherent to me if this were a linear story.
The Alone ending
From a pure story perspective, the Ryan ending is clearly what the game wants you to pick if you go along with Cageâs constant attempts to push that path. Jodie does seem happiest there, but it doesnât feel consistent. Right before the final choice she talks about her memories being fractured, missing Aiden, feeling like sheâs lost a part of herself. After watching every ending, Alone makes the most sense from that angle. It follows the logic of her still feeling incomplete and searching for answers; in the quiet, Aiden appears. The ghosts watching her as she walks through town also suggest sheâs more âvisibleâ to entities now that sheâs alone and looking inward. That vulnerability is exactly when Aiden would show up.
With the Pandoraâs box already open and another condenser unleashing the Infraworld, it also makes more sense that no one is left to stop her - no fiancĂŠ telling her she shouldnât risk her life again. In half the endings you still see her standing alone facing the condenser inside that Infraworld shield, regardless of whether you chose Ryan or Jay.
Ryanâs death ending
Theatrically, the version where Nathan kills Ryan might actually set up Alone even better. Ryan starts as a manipulator, a liar, and career-driven. Nathan being completely unhinged enough to try to shoot Jodie, and Ryan redeeming himself through sacrifice, would push her further toward isolation while making her realise how much she actually felt for him. The original Ryan ending is warm and bubbly, but thatâs about all it is. Given the amount of trauma Jodie has endured, it feels more honest for her to try to find the missing piece of herself on her own. The nightmares and the dark cliffhanger of a new Infraworld portal emerging carry real weight. I just canât picture her relaxing on a yacht after everything sheâs been through - any character with her history would be focused on whatâs still ahead and the answers she still needs.
The Zoey / Jay ending
I donât buy Jayâs ending at all. Itâs the weakest in every department - no tension, no buildup, almost no background. When I got the option to hug or kiss him at the end of the Navajo chapter I chose kiss, expecting something quiet and brief. When they went full into it I just rolled my eyes at how random it felt.
The Zoey ending is warm and fuzzy, but it doesnât feel like a real destination for someone with Jodieâs history. As part of an Alone path she could easily swing by and stay with them for a couple of weeks, but it isnât the end of her story. Watching Zoey suddenly become a battle companion next to Jodie felt cringe. Sheâs a character most players donât care about deeply, with little context for why sheâd want to save the world alongside Jodie or what she actually brings to the table. She wasnât trained by the CIA and, in this ending, has no powers.
The Beyond ending
This one could have been interesting if Jodie had no choice but to sacrifice herself to close the condenser. Imagine her and Aiden having to burn every last bit of power they have and dying as a result. But as it stands, I donât see a compelling reason for her to choose death just âto be with Aiden.â Itâs irresponsible - there are people in the real world who care about her and would be devastated. The âI want to be with Aidenâ motivation doesnât hold up either, because he was with her the entire time and she had no idea theyâd be separated if she returned to Earth.
The second half, where she chooses Zoey to be bound to her and Zoey starts developing powers, is even weaker. Again, itâs a character most people donât care about, and thereâs no foundation for her suddenly gaining the same abilities. Jodie and Aiden were siblings bound together from the start; it makes far more sense for Aiden to stay with her after dying from the strangulation. Both of Jodieâs parents had psychic potential. Thereâs zero context for anything like that with Zoeyâs family, and if her daughter had the same âsparkâ the game never bothers to show it. It just feels like a half-assed solution because Jodieâs dead, so they needed someone else to be the new captain of saving the world.
Summary
The story explores a whole spectrum of emotions extremely well, especially what it feels like to be different from other kids, teenagers, and adults, and what isolation, abandonment, and loneliness actually do to a person. I donât have much faith in a TV adaptation given how most movies and shows have gone the last ten years. Iâve thought about what a sequel could look like, but I doubt it would hit as hard as this one. You can only dig into childhood, betrayal, and anger so many times before it starts repeating. One thing Cage got right was leaving it exactly as it is.

I don't know If I'm halfway through or anything, but Jodie has become homeless and it's taken hours to reach that point. I set off the alarm of the supermarket and left the game without saving it. Just.. is there any way to recover it, It's so tiring
Edit: I forgot to say, I had clicked dont save thing before playing... So, am I screwed?

I finally got around to playing Beyond: Two Souls, and honestly, I had a great time with it.
It actually reminded me of Detroit: Become Human in a few ways, which makes sense given theyâre both from Quantic Dream. While I donât think itâs as polished as Detroit, it definitely has that same cinematic, choice-driven feel.
I know this game isnât everyoneâs cup of tea. The gameplay is pretty different from what most people expect, and I can see why it can be hit or miss. But if youâre willing to go in with an open mind, itâs a really unique experience.
It also features Elliot Page and Willem Dafoe, who both give fantastic performances and really help bring the story to life.
For anyone who doesnât know the game, you play as Jodie Holmes, a young woman with a mysterious supernatural connection to an invisible entity named Aiden. The story follows different moments throughout her life as you slowly uncover the truth behind their bond. No spoilers.
One thing worth mentioning is that there are two ways to experience the game. The original release order jumps back and forth between different points in Jodieâs life, while chronological order tells everything from beginning to end. I played it in the original release order, and Iâll admit it was a little confusing to follow at times. If you prefer a more straightforward narrative, the chronological option might be the better choice.
Itâs also a pretty short game, so you can comfortably finish it over a weekend if youâre looking for a story-driven experience.

I knew abut this game for a long time but only now decided to play it, honestly I expected much more, I remembered it as an awesome game but this is really poorly made.
I see a lot of people complaining about the nonchronological storytelling, I see no problem with it, but the combat system is disgusting, and generally moving or anything, characters constantly get stuck on random objects so I need to restart the game to get them unstuck,
choices have no real point since the game has a fixed story and nothing much changes depending on your choices,
any QTS is also just a disaster and I don't even know why Cage thought it would be a good idea for players to just guess where to move the mouse, and even when you do move it or press some keys, the game just decides to be unresponsive to some commands, it's hella inconsistent with its in game rules,
sometimes you can move Aiden like 50m and others times you can't move him 5m to reach a guard, also the Aiden mechanic is just hell, you can't decide who you can control or kill or anything and that just makes some situations seem hella dumb,
also the game forces Jodie to choose total assholes for love interests, you can either pick a dude who lied to you and didn't comfort you at all when Jodie was crying cause of the rape thing and just left or the other asshole who wanted to leave you alone in the desert to die of thirst and has no human decency towards people he doesn't know,
but I can't emphasize enough how bad the movement in this game is, had to restart like 40 times cause of the amount of times the characters got stuck, not just Jodie, but Ryan, Cole, Aiden, can't belive how it's possible for Aiden who is a fucking ghost who can go through walls, to get stuck between some invisible barriers that were put there for no reason,
also the world Jodie lives in is just stupid, you can't trust nobody and nobody has any common sense, honestly this game is like maybe a 4/10.

As a person who loves this kind of games, I cannot understand how this game flew under my radar for this long??? I played almost all "Decisions/choices" games but somehow, Beyond:Two Souls, never popped up on my radar. I loved it!
One thing I HATED or maybe playing chronological order might clear it up, was Ryan. How in the world was he a love interest? Blows my mind. You know well I made sure Aiden just stick it up to him all the time. Is he not even way older than Jodie? Anyways I hated that it felt very forced and just out of nowhere, not a fan of him.
The Aiden mechanic, hooooly. Now one of my fav mechanics in gaming, I loved it!!! I was pretty adamant on the fact that, we the players were Aiden lol. I was thinking something like 4th wall esque-ish thing going on, but we all know how that turned out to be. AMAZING!!!
The end choice was very clear to me, I was so hoping to see the gang and immediately chose Zoey, rest of the choices made no sense to me. Of course, from a first playthrough perspective.
That's it for me folks, lovely game. A little late to the fandom, but i'm here!

I play the game with a controller and I'm terrible in every combat situation. Somehow I managed to complete the CIA training but after that I get beaten up every time. I have no idea in which direction I should move. What to do if someone wants kick me? What to do if I'm attacked with a machete? In whichever direction I move the joy, I get hurt. It's very frustrating.
