Several months ago, I had questioned why no traditional slide operated, blowback centerfire handguns were in the DOR Guidance Document. No Walther PPK, no Bersa Firestorm, no Beretta 80X, etc. I had guessed that the DOR had applied the definition of “blowback operated system” narrowly, such that a traditional, one-piece slide was not a “breechblock” or “breech-bolt” as required by the statute.

Now the DOR has added the Wanad P83 to the Addendum of the Guidance. At first blush, this is inconsistent with the exclusion of other slide-operated blowback pistols. However, it appears that someone at the DOR actually did the technical research, and found that the P83 does have a separate breechblock that is pinned and welded into the stamped metal slide. So there does seem to be some degree of technical analysis being done, though it is still inconsistent. Why isn’t the HK4 included, since it has largely the same slide construction? Or why was the VP70z removed from the list, even though it has the same slide construction?

I know, I waited too long and should have bought it a long time ago. But with the new law, I'm confused. I'm looking at buying a S&W M&P 5.7. According to law, I should NOT be buying this without the permit, as it's a gas-operated, detached mag. However, it's not on the Guidance list that requires a permit. I have one gun store that will not sell to me, but I have a couple of others that will.

What advice do you fine people have? Since it's not on the list, I'm in the clear, or do I need a permit to buy?

Wondering if anyone can help me - I visited a gun shop in Denver in the summer of 2005 while on vacation and can’t for the life of me remember the name. It was a very old-school place that I think specialized in milsurps and old guns - remember it being a little disorganized and dirty and I think the owner may have been English? I picked up an Arisaka bayonet there I still have and have fond memories of chatting with the owner, I’d love to find out if the place still exists.

Wife and I hike frequently in the front range and 285 corridor, especially on the "less popular" trailheads. I've seen more bear and moose than ever in my life this year, and have carried spray frequently. 9mm is about all that I can conceal in summer clothes, 9mm is far from preferable for large game defense. As the creeks get drier and hunting season opens, I'd love to have a 1911 or SAA on me for larger calibers but I would have to OWB open carry to fit it on my person.

What's the perception of OC in the national forest from hikers? I mainly worry about alarming people. Anybody ever have an issue with OC on public land?

With how generally blasé the application of SB25-003 has been, I’d like to hear your thoughts on, what feels like at least, an untouched idea for acquiring guns that would otherwise require the new license. Note that I have not consulted CPW, my local FFL, or any legal agency as of yet, so I have nothing to back up this idea apart from my own reading of the law.

What if, prior to transferring a new semi-automatic firearm in your name, I had my FFL or any related gunsmith convert it into a straight pull bolt action rifle, at least as far as certain models allow? Pull the piston from a FAL, clip the carrier on an AK, or just install a kali key into an AR15. Something like that.

The bill text itself says nothing about converting an existing semi-automatic to a manual action. Nothing about using parts to convert an existing manually-operated firearm to a semi-automatic, apart from a legally-murky “manufacture” clause, either.

With all that in mind, has anyone considered, consulted their FFL about, or had a manual conversion done by a gunsmith prior to receiving a semi-auto?

I’m looking at a ranch job in eastern Colorado and am genuinely curious about the gun laws there. They’ll play a big part in my decision. I currently live in a pretty conservative state with very conservative gun laws. That being said I’ve got a couple semi auto rifles, some shotguns, some nice bolt actions, an AR with several 30 round mags, and a handgun. I know that the 30 round mags aren’t legal in CO. What are some other laws and regulations that I need to know about?

Just watched the new dragon man's video on the status of the injunction. Basically the AG's office filed that sb003 is legal and even if it was a de facto ban it would still be constitutional. Weiser is likely the new governor, and is laying the ground work for a ban in court already. If the supreme court does not give a rock solid ruling, we are gonna be in a full ban state after next legislative session comes to a close. Link to video below.

The CMP has refused my purchase of a surplus M1 Garand due to SB003. They won't sell any semiautomatic firearms to CO without the new permit.

They have no comment on any ongoing legal review or possibility of updating their policy in the future.

From my understanding, these M1s are except as curios and relics.

Has it been open or is it closed? If closed, anywhere else nearby that’s national forest land?

Rep. Jeff Hurd is expected to introduce a bill that would transfer more than 2,000 acres of BLM land northeast of Glenwood Springs to Out of Bounds Ranch.

I’ve hunted this parcel for decades. It is not “unused.” In a unit already dominated by private property, these parcels provide valuable elk habitat and access to connected public land.

This would DELETE over 2,000 acres of prime hunting access in unit 444.

This is not just about hunting, this is about preserving public lands and our rights as citizens. This isn’t a game, but unfortunately, some think otherwise.

What a joy it is to be a Coloradan. I applied for my “permit” at the end of July, after jumping through some hoops due to my Hunter education course being out of state and now I am still waiting. I have a CHP in Colorado (which apparently means nothing), have my hunter safety course certification from over a decade ago, and here I am still waiting over 1 month later pending sheriff review. How is this program anything less than a completely failure? I’m not trying to get political here, but this is ridiculous.

Anyone complete the classes yet? Whats the process and how long and how much. The lady down at ez pawn told me it was just a written test and thats it but i dont think she even knows.

The Intro starts on page 17. There is no TL;DR version of this Brief, it's already as short as the authors could make it.

Good stuff on page 43 onward, digging into historical tradition vs the current application of "dangerous and unusual". It seems that back in the old days, the test was applied on a case-by-case basis depending on the weapon used, how it was used, and the actual nature of the crime. It was up to the JURORS to decide if it was dangerous/unusual.

Compare that to today's pre-compiled "naughty lists" that allow convictions without the defendant having a chance to challenge the dangerous/unusual accusation. Today, the judge will just instruct the jury as to whether a weapon is dangerous or not and the jury won't put up a fight, they'll just side with the government without ever hearing testimony about the true nature of the weapon and why the prosecution/defense disagree that the weapon is not particularly unusual or dangerous.

Hopefully SCOTUS agrees that it's time to get back to basics. The "feature bans" and restrictions are hopefully on their way into the dark corners of history and remembered as gross authoritarianism. The ATF vertical foregrip rule and the California "featureless" pistol grip (which features a huge shark fin) rule are perfect examples of such authoritarianism... dictating right down to how you can and cannot HOLD the gun in your own hands.

I wanted to see here if anyone in the group has more info about if Harris Park is open at the moment. I know there was a thread about 4 months ago that mentioned it was still open through stage 1 fire ban limits in Park County then. I was just driving up 43A on the way to it and saw a sign saying there are stage 2 fire bans in Park County now and no shooting allowed. I just went ahead and turned around at that point. Anyone know if this is still in effect after the rains of the last week? Is Harris Park open at the moment?

Although the Court continues to believe the Waiting Period Act is constitutional, the Court is bound by the Tenth Circuit’s decision and the law of the case. For the reasons stated in Ortega, the Court denies the Defendants’ MSJ and grants the Plaintiffs’ MSJ.

I’ve seen some posts on here with people saying online gun stores won’t ship to CO anymore. I urge you to email the store and explain that you have your SSF cert and an FFL that will accept and follow all local laws.

Atlantic firearms states they don’t ship to CO on their site but when i sent them my SSF cert they said that’s no problem and they would ship it if i had an FFL that would accept. They responded by email in minutes.

So i'm currently deployed and saw the news about about the CMP selling M14's in January. I'll still be overseas when these go for sale so I can't get the permit. But looking through the bill its exempts "Springfield Armory M1A Standard Issue Rifle".

There is also the C&R exemption; the issue being I could have my wife do the mail in order for CMP but in states that require permits they require proof of carrying that permit.

With the M1A exempt and the C&R exemption do you think that M14's would meet the exemption threshold, or am I SOL till I get back stateside get the permit and hope the CMP still has stock or pay overinflated prices for one on GB.
