若繼續留在台灣，就必須忍受糧食短缺的困境。

而且一旦汽油耗盡，一切恐怕都會陷入停頓。

不應該保護孩子嗎？

For context, in 2023, after a long series of academic and health issues I lost the scholarship I had at a national university. I could barely afford to pay my fall tuition, even after working throughout the summer, and paid it about a month later than the expected deadline.

Since the student visa is tied to the enrollment at the university, I had to wait until I was able to pay the tuition and complete my enrollment requirements. By the time I was able to do so I had already overstayed my visa by more than a month. I had no money left and once I had saved a little after a couple weeks I already needed to leave the country to go to a taiwanese consulate elsewhere, pay the fees and come back, which I didn't have the means to. I ended up dropping out of uni, paying the overstay fine, and going back to my country.

Now my finances have stabilized, so I would like to return to Taiwan to finish my degree. Has anyone else has had this sort of experience. According to what I have seen and asked is possible to reapply for visa with someone with this sort of background, but I still think it may not be feasible.

TLDR: How possible (or feasible) it is to reapply to a Taiwanese after overstaying and still getting approved?

This is a followup to an earlier post on my 12 day trip along the eastern coast (Taitung → Hualien → Jiaoxi (Yilan))

The video shows a side of Taiwan that I think folks rarely get to see! The natural beauty of the east coast was just stunning! Some of the shots were just random stops along the side of the road when I was just blown away by the amazing scenery.

I think the rains caused by Invest 94 (the pressure system that dropped all of the rain before Saudel) added to a lot of the drama because the mountains were literally just "leaking" water.

I was curious if anyone here had visited the Tu’er Shen shrine at Wei-ming temple? Since it’s the only official shrine dedicated to him I’ve heard it’s become a bit of a place of interest for both LGBT+ tourists and locals.

To the same point, besides his official shrine I was wondering if anyone here had their own personal home shrine to him? LGBT+ representation in spirituality was a big part of my Masters dissertation so to get some first hand accounts would be super helpful.

Silly question but do bikes (YouBike) here follow pedestrian rules that pass through the sidewalk or are they considered vehicles that have to go on the road. planning to go out with a bike tomorrow for the first time since I got here but I havent been observant enough with how people used their bikes lol

My 80 yo Taiwanese mother wants to move back to Taiwan rather than move to an assisted living home in the US.

She would need live in care to do this. How do I go about legally hiring someone? All the information I am finding is very vague and I’m sure the information I need is probably in Chinese, which I unfortunately can’t read.

I'm planning to move with my golden retriever at the end of this year to Taiwan. While I am aware of the paperwork required to get her there and have been working through it as we speak, my biggest concern is her experience with flying. (She's never flown before)

Does anyone have any experience flying their dogs in cargo? Because of her size, she won't be able to fit in cabin unfortunately. And it just makes me so nervous since I've heard of dogs passing while traveling in cargo. I just want my baby to be comfortable and most importantly, safe!!

Do you recommend any airlines? I'm currently debating between EVA Air and Starlux. Do you happen to know if one is more pet friendly than the other?

Just moved to Taipei and my hair is not loving the weather. I’ve got thin hair as it is and it gets both frizzy and flat with the humidity. I’m looking into a good heat protectant or a general spray that would work well to combat the frizz without weighing the hair down too much. Can anyone recommend some local products? I may go to Poya tomorrow and would appreciate hearing about some tried-and-true sprays. Thank you!

This is my first post as I usually just read Reddit and I'm not one to usually partake. I think this is my 15th account because I keep signing up with different email accounts by mistake and forgetting which one I used. I'm also quite new to posting so if this is in the wrong place I sincerely apologise and if somebody could direct me to the correct place. That would be magic.

Anyway as is implied in the title. I am planning to move to Taiwan. I have been an ESL Teacher for 15 years but I'm hoping to break out of that industry at some point and find a different career as I reach an older age. I've done it all in the ESL world. Kindergarten, Private Primary Schools, Middle Schools, High Schools, Vocational Colleges, University, IELTS, Corporate and even an English Job Camp in South Korea. I've lived in Mainland China for 9 years, South Korea for 2 years and Vietnam for 4 years now.

My mandarin is okay. MaMaHuHu. I can converse quite well. I can read a fair bit too. Around 2000 characters. But I want to study and perfect it. Get some sort of qualification or at least real world practice and application. I am from the UK and around 40 years old. I plan to apply for the Hanyu Enrichment Scholarship but I really don't think I'll get it due to my age and also not being in the UK at the moment.

What I do have is a budget and a plan, this is where I hope this sub can help. I plan to go around September or December 2027. I have contractual obligations to fulfill. I will study for 6-9 months depending on the course. And I will be bring a pet with me. I won't be staying in Taipei but I would like to be close enough for a day out there. I would like a relatively large Studio apartment or 1 bedroom place. No furniture because I don't want my pets destroying someone else's property. They don't wreck a place but a lot of landlords just keep my deposit because of them. I'd like just a refrigerator and a washing machine, maybe a bed but I'm not fussy. I planned around 60,000NTD to kit out an apartment.

My entire budget for 6 months is 570,344.40 New Taiwan dollar. That includes flights, moving costs, deposits, tuition, food, gym etc the whole kit and caboodle. And a little emergency fund in case I can't find work at the end of it and have to go home.

So, after all that if you're still reading. Is it enough money?

What do you usually spend a month on food/rent and other expense etc.?
Which area is a good place to start looking?
Where can I find rental properties for expats/immigrants?

I am already researching a lot of this myself. But I would like some human input first.

China has pulled out from one of Asia’s biggest contemporary art festivals after a row over the words “Taiwan pavilion” escalated into a diplomatic dispute between Beijing and South Korea.
The Gwangju Biennale, founded in 1995 and held every two years in Gwangju, in southwestern South Korea, is Asia’s longest-running contemporary art biennale. Its 16th edition will run from 5 September to 15 November across venues in the city, with 43 participating artists.
The Chinese exhibition team announced on Thursday that it had unanimously decided to withdraw from the Gwangju Biennale, two days before the festival opens to the public in the South Korean city.
