(To be tagged...) I'm diamond 2 and just got matched against Serral 😭

Post image
Upvotes

I thought it was just someone using Serral`s streamer name but after I lost, I saw that he had 6.9k MMR to my 3.7k.

Is there really nobody in masters or diamond 1 anymore for him to play against?

Why did Blizzard send the ultimate Smurf against me?😭

Also I can't be bothered to take a screenshot.

Here is the replay if anyone's interested

Discussion What is there left in the story? (Discussion on next StarCraft game)

Upvotes

I know that we are starting to get drips of story regarding for a potential new Starcraft game (Which I am excited for), this makes me think, if it is a SC3, what story is there left to tell?

Now this is not a rant or anything, just a question for someone who loves the story.

with SC1 + BW, is primarily focused on establishing the world of SC with the factions, with the rise and fall of the Overmind to the rise and fall of the UED, to leading to the set up for the secret enemy that would become Amon in SC2.

While SC2 would involve the overarching preparation for the fight with Amon while settling other character stories of Raynor’s dual relationship with Kerrigan and his rebellion against Mengsk, Kerrigan resolving her vengeance on Mengsk, and Artanis becoming a leader for the Protoss.

Sure there was the Nova compaign, but that was wrapped up as her crew being some secret group to help mankind behind the shadows.

The only things I can think of to have some continuation is with Alarak and the Tal’Darim, and possibly the UED returning (Not that I see them being much of a problem imo).

Other than that, I can’t really see what else StarCraft could go with if they do a ā€œStarCraft 3ā€.

This is sort of like with imo the issue with the Star Wars sequels, were they necessary? Sure there was the legends novels, but the sequels as far as I’m concerned were not really planned.

Thoughts? What other story bits or plot threads have I missed?

(To be tagged...) Which novel is the best introduction to the setting?

Upvotes

As title says, which novel would folks say is the best introduction to the Starcraft setting and helps set up understanding the world for someone that maybe hasn't played the games yet?

I've heard Heaven's Devils, Liberty's Crusade, and maybe I, Mengsk as the top 3, but if you had to narrow it down to one, which would you choose?

When I was 16 Wings of Liberty was released. I went to my local game stop on crutches (knee twisted) to buy the game as it was just released. The employee was sorry for me and gave me additionally to the game a poster and this sticker. I kept it since.

(To be tagged...) Are the additional campaigns for SC1 worth it for the story and lore?

Upvotes

Hi, so I've beaten the base game and Brood War campaigns and I've been trying the first mission for Enslavers. However, it's been really hard and, to be fair, I'm just a bit burnt out on SC1 gameplay and difficulty. For the first time during my playthrough, its limitations have halted my strategies.

So I was wondering if it's okay to just skip Enslavers I and II and the Stukov Series or is it essential to understand SC2.

Arcade/Co-op That's why you have to complete the secondary StarCraft missions if you don't want Raynor's rebels to starve.

Discussion Question about how Zerg production is balanced

Upvotes

I've never really understood how Zerg's production is balanced against Terran and Protoss.

Zerg scales their production across additional Hatcheries, whereas Terran and Protoss need to keep adding production buildings throughout.

For example, if Protoss wants to transition into air, they need to spend a significant amount of minerals/gas on 2-3 Stargates plus a Fleet Beacon, whereas Zerg only needs a Spire.

And is this also part of the reason Zerg can often have such a large bank in longer games, since T/P have to keep spending resources on additional production buildings?

Not trying to argue that Zerg is OP, and this isn't an issue with the latest patch. I'm genuinely interested in understanding how Zerg mechanics are balanced around it.

Discussion PoV: You're a UED soldier entering a Dropship with a Hydralisk. What do your interactions with it look like?

Post image
Upvotes

Does it have a concept of personal space? Does it slither to the back of the cabin so that others can get in? Does it just stand awkwardly in the walkway, not able to really sit down in the seats? Is it leaking Zerg fluid everywhere? Is it getting pissed off at the Zergling for stepping on its tail? When it flies across the cabin from atmospheric turbulence after takeoff because it's not strapped in, does it respond like something attacked it? Does it react curiously to what you do, and respond to acts of kindness?

Discussion in 2002 nobody could search up a starcraft replay, so they went and asked the pros for theirs

Upvotes

in 2000 a kid in shanghai got into jiao tong university for civil engineering. his family had money until his father's business partner vanished with all of it, so that summer he sold PCs in a computer market. at school he joined the campus starcraft team and ended up looking after its homepage. he learned web pages off an older student and inside a year was better than him. people kept turning up on that page asking for replays, so he opened a download section on a campus entertainment site. a few dozen online at a time, all there for the same thing. by 2002 there were enough that he rented web space just to hold the files. on july 22 he went looking for a name easier to remember, typed in replays.net, and found nobody had taken it.

it carried warcraft 3 only at first. then the captain of linyu, one of china's top three starcraft teams then, asked him to add a starcraft section. he said yes, and linyu sent over a guy called wufan to keep it updated. in 2002 you did not get replays by searching. search didn't turn them up. wufan went through foreign esports sites and players' own blogs one at a time, and built standing relationships with pros so match files and practice games came to him first-hand. the phrase they used for that work translates literally as "human flesh search." nobody was paid for any of it. from 2002 to 2005 the site earned almost nothing and he borrowed server space wherever anyone would lend it.

what changed it was january 2005. korea's WEG had one slot left to a public vote, and a chinese player almost nobody had heard of used the site to say he wanted it. the site ran a campaign for him, sina games and the other portals reposted it, readers followed those links in, and a few dozen people online turned into a few thousand. the player was li xiaofeng. later that year he won the first of two straight wcg world titles, as sky.

(from a book i put together in 2015 from sit-down interviews - this chapter's free like the rest, link in the comments)

(To be tagged...) I just published a 27-year-old track I made about "The Terran Strategy"

Upvotes

27 years ago I made this track in FastTracker II inspired by StarCraft and what I imagined as "The Terran Strategy" using the samples from the game.

It stayed buried on an old drive, and I recently found it again and decided to give it a proper remaster. The original mix was… definitely the work of someone still learning šŸ˜…

Listening to it again after all these years instantly brought me back to late nights playing StarCraft, hearing the Terran soundtrack, building bases and trying to survive whatever was coming through the fog of war.

So I figured this might be the right place to finally share it, I hope you'll find it fun ! 😁

(To be tagged...) [Ongoing Updates] [Resource Sharing] Terran Defense

Upvotes

Introduction

Hello everyone. I’ve posted in this forum before, but due to disorganized content management and my previous lack of familiarity with link posts, I’ve decided to repost this to organize the information and provide clarifications and additions based on questions I’ve received via private messages from many users. Since this game is constantly being updated, the information provided here may not always be entirely consistent—thank you for your understanding!

Overview

This is an EUD map where players will train, build, and upgrade various Terran units and structures, or use special abilities and features to fend off continuous attacks from AI opponents.

Players

This game cannot be played in single-player mode(to prevent cheating)and is only available in multiplayer mode; however, you can play alone. It supports up to three players, and due to the high difficulty of certain levels, cooperative play is recommended. Of course, if you’re confident in your understanding of the game and your skills, you can also try to complete it solo.

Difficulty

This game has been played by 800+ players already. Overall, it’s very difficult with a high learning curve; many levels feature ā€œfirst-time killsā€, so if you want to complete the game, you’ll likely need to experiment, explore, and learn through trial and error.

Links

With each version update, the download links will be posted below for easier access and management.

Features

Almost all unit types, buildings, upgrades, resource collection, technologies, abilities, and more have been completely revamped compared to the original *StarCraft: Remastered*. For example, the Vulture no longer has weapons or attack capabilities but focuses on laying large numbers of mines; air units now appear as ground-based turrets; and a vast number of units that were originally untrainable or unbuildable, as well as special upgrades that were previously unobtainable, can now be experienced in the game, and so on. That said, many of the original game’s combat strategies and characteristics have been preserved—for example, Firebats have an advantage over Zerglings, and Tanks have an advantage over Hydralisks, and so on.

Version

This mod does not require the remastered version, so the standard free version is also playable. However, it’s best to update to the latest version (currently 1.23.10); if maps fail to load, it may be because your game version is too outdated.

Levels

The difficulty of the levels in this game jumps significantly, so you’ll need to prepare in advance. I recommend paying close attention to the in-game tips, they’ll be very helpful! There are currently 15 major levels in total; in the first 10, the enemies are ground units, while in the last 5, they are air units. Don’t rely too heavily on your current decisions, that implies strategies that work well in one level may not work at the next and could even backfire.

BOSSES

The first 10 levels each have their own end-of-level boss; the bosses for the subsequent 5 levels will be added in future updates(no one has reached this stage yet). Each boss has its own unique special abilities. Pay close attention to in-game warnings and tips — the boss’s unique abilities will also be displayed on its unit panel.

Resource Gathering

Keep a close eye on the minimap—there are many special ways to gather resources, and most of them require an SCV. If you’re running low on resources during the game, it’s likely because you haven’t discovered all the available resource collection methods!

Special Areas

Keep a close eye on the minimap—some areas contain Easter eggs. If you explore thoroughly, you might be in for a pleasant surprise!

Explanations

The game provides detailed text descriptions for all unit types, buildings, buttons, switches, and more. Please read them carefully to understand their functions before taking any decisive action.

Note

This game will continue to receive updates, but the difficulty will not be reduced, making it perfect for players who love a challenge!

(To be tagged...) TMG - Unit/Upgrade/Building Costs

Upvotes

Hi All,

I've been slowly building my way through the Terran/Zerg starter box as well as the Protoss starter box. As I'm getting closer to having game ready models I'm now looking at army lists and I am getting myself a bit lost - specifically mineral/gas costs.

I know that the rule book has the costs near the back of the book but can these be found elsewhere? I've looked at the cards supplied in the starter boxes I have and I cannot find the costs anywhere on them - I was expecting this so it might be easier for each player to prepare an army simultaneously. I suppose it also brings the question about the new units/buildings expected in the release waves.

I suspect I am perhaps missing these somewhere so would appreciate a point in the right direction - I will accept any criticism suggesting I am blind šŸ˜…

Thanks in advance.
