Dark Pattern in app to reload

Upvotes

I went to reload my Starbucks app this morning and couldn't find the option to do 1-off reload. After playing around for a bit I figured out it's the "Pay in Cafe" button.

Talk about a dark pattern! The only visible option that says "reload" is the auto-reload "Turn On" button. If you want to do a 1-off reload, it's the completely non-intuitive "Pay in Cafe" button. That is a seriously shady attempt to trick people into turning on auto-reload.

Food & Drink Review 2026 Fall Flavor Issues?

Upvotes

I’m not the only one who thinks the pumpkin and pecan flavors are messed up this year… right? I swear they both taste weird and bad now and they used to be my favorite that I’d excitedly wait all year to enjoy.

The pumpkin has a weird fake sharp sweet flavor now and the pecan tastes more like the actual bitter nut, not buttery creamy delicious like it used to be. What gives?? Are they skimping out on quality yet again to save a buck? I’m so disappointed…

Recipe Question Need recipe for espresso roast capsules

Post image
Upvotes

Hi all, I bought these (see image) capsules for my LOR espresso machine cause I wanted to recreate Starbucks’ caramel macchiato at home. However, I’m really struggling with getting the flavor right. No matter what I try, it tastes sooooo bad. All internet sources say Starbucks uses dark roast espresso for their drinks so it looks like I did buy the correct product for my machine? Could someone please tell me what’s the correct way to use these and a recipe that is tried and tested? If anyone has any experience with these… thank you 🙏🏻

I need the real truth

Upvotes

I am coming here to get the answer from the source. Refill policy. If I get an iced Americano and drink it in the cafe, can I get a coffee or iced coffee to go before I leave? I don’t want to exploit the refill policy or put a barista in an uncomfortable position. But one Starbucks tells me yes and gives me a coffee. Another says no, refill has to be what you originally drank and Americano is not eligible. I would never expect you to refill my Americano with another Americano, but iced coffee which is cheaper? Seems logical. But it’s Starbucks.

I wish the order progress screen didn’t exist.

Upvotes

My store relatively recently got remodeled, and they added a digital order progress screen in the café. It is constantly inaccurate and never reflects what we have actually done on the DPM, however, customers are consistently appointed to that screen, and their order is ready when it’s not and yelling at us. I think it is frustrating for both customers and baristas. I wish they would just fix it or get rid of it entirely.

Policy Question should i call out?

(please ignore the nails i know i need to get them redone). so… i got stung by a wasp yesterday and ive never gotten stung by one before. i feel like i read somewhere that youre not supposed to go into work with an allergic reaction, but i don’t work until tomorrow. should i call out?

my parents are trying to decide whether to take me to urgent care for meds, because antihistamines (benadryl) hasn’t worked and hydrocortisone hasn’t helped. it’s extremely swollen, red, and very very itchy and it hurts (second pic, first pic for normal reference) but i’m not sure if i need a doctors note or something like that to be able to call out “sick”.

i’ve never done this before and i need some advice so i don’t get myself in trouble with work. i’m stressing and don’t know what to do!!

Girl blow drying her hair in the dining area…?

Upvotes

Exactly what the title says. A girl walked in with a Dyson hair dryer lookalike and headed to the bathroom. She walked back out because I guess there aren’t outlets in there? She then plugged in her hair dryer into an outlet in the dining area and sat down and started drying/curling her hair. None of the employees said anything and she was done after maybe ten minutes. I feel like this is a health code violation? Is this normal??

Recipe Question I got the wrong drink and it was so much better than what I ordered.

Upvotes

I want to order it myself next time, but i feel like if I order what the label says, I won't get a full cup.

My order was a venti vanilla sweet cream cold brew.

The label on the cup i received said, " venti iced expresso, light ice, extra 3/4" 2% milk". The drink filled the venti cup...I would have thought this order would result in a half filled cup at most.

Can I just order like this and get the same drink, or do I have to ask for anything else to ensure the cup gets filled?

Thank you guys for any help!

😠 Rant 😠 Lowkey Confused

Upvotes

I just need to rant real quick, but as someone who doesn't even work at Starbucks😭. I went to a job hiring event, and a couple of days after, I received a text from a sm letting me know she would love for me to join the team. The day after she texted me, I got an email asking to submit a background check, and she told me that she would start working on my schedule and training whenever it was completed. Well, a week goes by, and it still says my background check is processing. I was getting nervous, but based on past experience and reassurance from others, I let it be figuring it was a normal amount of time and would be done soon. Then I got an email saying that the listing for the exact position that I had accepted too had expired. At this point, my background check had finally been completed for a day or two, but this email made me nervous, so I texted the sm. She then proceeded to tell me that my "stuff" had expired and that she took it that I no longer wanted to join the team. I apologized to her and expressed how I was a little confused and that I was still very interested in joining the team. I have now been left with no response and am still very confused about what she meant by my "stuff" having expired. My only guess is that my background check is the stuff she is referring to that somehow expired?? I am now full of regret, as I now realize that maybe I should have gotten in contact with her sooner to inquire about whether everything was fine or if there was something else I should have done. However, in the moment, I thought to just let it run its course, and if there was a problem, she would have let me know. I am also slightly upset by the fact that she did not try to reach out and ask if I was still interested and instead just assumed. Safe to say I have learned a valuable lesson from this experience. It just sucks as I have been applying to work at Starbucks for years and to think I was so close :(

Policy Question Last pay-check issue

Upvotes

I quit Starbucks due to the awful management and toxic environment. My last pay-check did not include my vacation pay. What do I do? I politely asked the manager about it.

Does anyone know how does the process go? I’m in Canada and I am eligible to take my vacation pay back home.

I hate the manager so badly, she’s toxic, unorganized, plays favourites and basically treats everyone like a tool.

I have a feeling she won’t even care about my massage asking about my vacation pay on my final check.

Edit: it’s been a week (and more) that I quit

Edit 2: I received my last pay check! I think the manager didn’t process my leave :/

Disclaimer: I think the baristas being forced to write on cups is stupid. I am not sure if this was because I had to ask for a remake, I would rather they have the time to focus on the drinks and not mess around with sharpies.

Disrespect from coworker

Upvotes

I am a supervisor at Starbucks I have been really cool with this girl that I work with and we even hung out once but this stopped one day when we had a really rough shift together it was in the morning on a Saturday and peak seemed to be starting soon, and the other supervisor that opened was really behind on the shipment from the morning because they had two call outs so I told him he can work on it until it feels like we are going to start peak. So he was in the back. It was already busy but we were handling it with only him off the floor however another coworker was marking themselves out and stepped off the floor. I was really confused because this now left us on a four part so I went in the back and asked and he said that he said earlier that she could go on her ten but that was before we agreed he would work what he could with putting the order away. When I was in the back asking, the girl was on bar by herself for a minute I came back and she was just stacking cups and abandoned her position. She said that she wasn’t going to be so a bar for peak so she’s just started being customer support. I told her that she wasn’t solar bar and I was here to help her. I just had to figure out what was happening on the floor and I was communicating this stir on the headset she said OK whatever and cut me off the stone in dismissal when I was trying to solve everything in this chaotic moment felt disrespectful to me so I told her whoever’s being disrespectful can get written up on the log. She felt very offputting by this and that was the start of the problems. Long story short she has a history of making a lot of comments and complaining all the time about customers and about the stressful environment and it does kind of give a negative filling because it’s tolerated by other supervisors.

What happened recently that we had another call out one day when I came out when I came around 3:30 PM so it was just her and one other supervisor on the floor he asked her where she wanted to be and she said bar and when I came on the floor, I was trying to help her on bar because she was so annoying and she told me not to help her because she had too many drinks on cold bar, and I took the hint that she would feel better. She had space so I went to restocking and running a customer support because the store needed it so we were trying to accommodate for her. It was done that other supervisor went to help her own bar because he was waiting on drinks and drive-through and she said something along the lines of “move out of the way I’m gonna kill you” and it turns out that he was also making comments to ragebait her playfully during this stressful moment but it didn’t sound to go from my perspective so I said “come on don’t talk to ____ like that we are all a team” in a way that was intentionally cheesy and she said “both of you guys shut up” in a tone that was a bit aggressive. Keep in mind I had a close store that day so when I came in and I sold the cards that we were were dealt, I didn’t seem good at all for me. I just barely started my shift so I knew that I had another seven hours of this and being told to show up like that and I’ve already stressful situation really didn’t sit right with me. Nobody I have in my family or my friends or anything talks to me that way so it’s not something that I’m used to tolerating so I told her “ I know that _____ may be fine with you talking to him that way, but I’m not fine with it. We could send you on your 10 you need to reset.”

I wanna completely disagree with you if you say that, I could’ve said this or approach a situation better but that was my best response in the moment because I was frustrated by her telling us to shut up as her supervisors or even just coworkers in the moment where we all don’t feel supported by the labor, and we all have a lot of pressure. She was really frustrated by this and shut down and soon after I sent her on 10 because we also still had to get the other supervisors lunch soon after we had one other person come in and they slid out the other supervisor at drive-through, so it was still only a three and it was just way too busy and Maecy because we didn’t have a running customer support so now I was solo bar to give her space in time to distress as much as possible, given the situation except she was just in the back cleaning the dishes when the situation did not at all call for this to be cleaned. We were low on ice. We are low cuffs is the front of house floor in general just needed to be attended to, but she was self isolating. She ended up being in the back crying with the other supervisor while they were on their lunch and said that what I said, upset her and that she wanted to go home and the other supervisor said that they were on their lunch and he didn’t even know if he can technically make that decision and that he also acts rationally when he’s upset to just hold off and wait until he comes back so the whole time he was gone, I was by myself on bar and there was at least 15 drinks and more people lining up at café other girl was just taking the café orders to because during this time, the other girl was off crying in the back it was pretty much unavailable to make matters worse. A whole quinceanera came in a party of at least 11. The other supervisor had came back from their lunch now, and the girl was still in the back doing dishes as soon as he started taking the orders. I asked her if she can get ice she ignored me and continue to do the dishes.. I have a feeling she toward me because she was overstimulated or and was to the point where she didn’t want to really participate in the shift anymore.

At the same time the other girl, but that was at drive-through had to go to the restroom and she ended up throwing up and had to go home so now it was just me and the other supervisor on the floor.
When the other supervisor was done, taking all the orders she told him she was gonna clock out and he said you’re off at six at this time it was about 420pm. She says she knows, but she can’t work anymore that she said that she was in the point at the point where she was crying in front of her boss (which was him) however it was interesting to me that she didn’t consider him a boss at the moment when she told him and me to shut up. So she left in the store was so under labor. And at a 2 man for at least another 3hours.

My intention was just a set boundaries about communication on the floor to your coworkers, especially if they’re supervisors. I had been a barista for two years before I was a shift and started as early as 17 and talking to my supervisors in that way, was something that I never would come close to doing so it’s something that has seen disrespectful to me. This was the second time she has done something similar to this and that’s why it was harder this time around to not feel disrespected. I understand that it was a top shift and it was unfair for her to be on solo bar during those 30 minutes, however we should still be mindful of how we communicate to our coworkers that are going through the same thing. I documented the situation because it was the second time that it happened and she did end up leaving her shift this time my manager intends to talk to me about the situation tomorrow, even though this happened two weeks ago because I haven’t had a shift that over lapped with hers or overall had the opportunity to do so. My manager told me that she already had the conversation with her, and it was actually a long conversation. It was just two days ago that we all three had a shift together and she seemed to be completely fine with my manager and even laughing with each other. This girl is not really receptive to feedback and gets rather angry easily. So it is hard for me to believe that my manager, held her accountable to a certain degree if this is how they were engaging with each other during the shift. This makes me feel discouraged for the conversation I am going to have with her tomorrow before my shift because I feel as though all im going to hear is how I make the partner feel “uncomfortable “ etc etc and it is going to be excuses for the behavior. My manager is not one that holds a strong standing on standards and is definitely the more “agreeable” type so I am disappointed at the thought that most likely my manager just agreed and comforted the girl about how she was feeling and did not set any boundaries about communication on the floor.

My question is: With the new time and attendance policy- shouldn’t there be any points given on the girls record for leaving her shift early by standard?

Honestly, despite how she felt in the situation, I don’t think it should go without any accountability specially, given the state the store was at the moment and how it was left for the remaining of my close. I would love some advice on how I should deliver this situation to my manager tomorrow on our 1 on 1 without getting emotional but rather with a point. Any comments are appreciated. Thank you.

how in the world do I get a XS from Coffeegear?

Upvotes

a couple weeks ago now, i was trying to get an XS Sumatra tee and an XS Armed Forces tee from their website but they don't have that size of either of them. when I last checked, there was a note that said to email them, and so i did, no response, I followed up a week later and still no response.

now I just checked again and the note says
"Due to no inventory, all XS orders will receive a Starbucks™ Signature Tee and then their second shirt of choice"
on the Armed Forces shirt, which they currently have 48 XS in stock. there are zero XS Sumatra tees, but why can't I just have one of the CURRENTLY IN STOCK armed forces tees?

😠 Rant 😠 I’m over it

Upvotes

I’m a 5 year partner…I’ve definitely been burnt out from the job at the Siren for well over 2 years now. Ever since big papa Brian took over it’s been a damn nightmare. Insane menu, so many modifications, and TERRIBLE scheduling. What the hell is even a green apron host?? I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I applied to be a school cook and I’m willing to leave this high cortisol job for it. At least I’d be facing actual children, and not adult children that have yelled and insulted me for simple mistakes like forgetting a topping on a drink!!

I’ve had a lot of good memories from working at Starbucks but after 5 years I can’t take it anymore. This morning I had an 8hr shift and unfortunately stepped on a shard of glass as I was getting ready and had to call the store to let them know I wasn’t going to be able to come in. My SM was understanding but I feel awful knowing that they had to run peak without my help! I have a hard relationship with quitting because as much as I’ve loved and cared about my job, it’s drained me so much. But when that door opens, I hope I can just run out and never look back.

I love(d) my job

Upvotes

3 year barista, 1 year SSV. Leaving in December for various reasons. I see a lot of negativity towards this job and everything we have to deal with (and for good reason). I just wanted to post something positive before I leave.

I really did love this job. I loved being that small, positive part of someone's day. I worked so hard to make GOOD drinks and do my job well despite all of the rising expectations and utter bullsh*t they make us do. I loved my coworkers most of all.

I have my qualms, as we all do. The expectations are just getting stricter and with staffing being what it is, we're all running on empty. I learned early on to never let that dim the joy I found in the work itself.

If you're a newer barista wondering if it's worth it: for me, it was. I loved it. You will have hard days, you will have terrible customers, and you will have management breathing down your neck for things you can't control. All you can do is try your best and control your own actions.

To current baristas, I see you, I appreciate you, and I hope you take pride in what you do.

It's a bittersweet feeling finally leaving this place. I'm happy I got to do it, but lord knows I wouldn't do it again. I'll be working through the holidays and then I'll finally be out. Good luck to all of us this holiday season 😔
