Attendance Points Q&A Megathread

Upvotes

Welcome to the attendance points Q&A! This thread will remain open as a resource for info about the new attendance point system effective July 27. Shoutout to [u/rio8envy7](u/rio8envy7) for suggesting this via modmail!

Comment below with any questions about attendance points. All are welcome to answer questions, but in order to keep this thread as a useful resource, please leave serious answers only and avoid speculation and hearsay. If you're an ASM or above and don't have yourself flaired as such, consider setting your flair before answering. Please also remember that photos/screenshots of internal Starbucks resources are not allowed on [r/starbucks](r/starbucks).

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How can I check how many points I have?

A: Ask your store manager or ASM. They can pull a report showing your points history.

Q: When do my points reset/expire?

A: Points stay with you for exactly one year and then they expire.

Q: If I leave early with my shift's or manager's permission, do I still get points?

A: At first, yes, but your manager should remove those points before processing payroll for that week. The only exception is if your manager adjusts your scheduled shift in Partner Hours (adjustments in the play caller app don't count).

Q: Do I still get points if I'm calling out sick?

A: You will not get points for calling out sick as long as you follow the call-out procedure outlined in the partner guide. If you're automatically given points for a shift that you properly called out of, your manager should remove them.

Signature vs Blonde Espresso

Upvotes

I had heard before that the blonde espresso roast contains more caffeine per shot than the signature espresso. When I order a quad shot iced latte using the signature espresso, the nutrition facts show 225 mg of caffeine. When I customize the order to the blonde roast, it still shows 225 mg of caffeine.

Do they contain the same amount of caffeine? Is the app just not calculating the blonde correctly?

Girl blow drying her hair in the dining area…?

Upvotes

Exactly what the title says. A girl walked in with a Dyson hair dryer lookalike and headed to the bathroom. She walked back out because I guess there aren’t outlets in there? She then plugged in her hair dryer into an outlet in the dining area and sat down and started drying/curling her hair. None of the employees said anything and she was done after maybe ten minutes. I feel like this is a health code violation? Is this normal??

Store managers

Upvotes

Are store managers allowed to be friends with baristas/ hang out with them outside of work? I have a store manager mad at some of the supervisors being friends with baristas when the store manager is friends with baristas/ is with them outside of work often and i just thought that was against policy but idk …

😠 Rant 😠 Had the worst chai today šŸ’”

Upvotes

Mostly annoyed and want to rant but I’m not super upset since she seemed like a new hire/was alone.

I was in a mall and they had one of those corner Starbucks bars and I got a iced pumpkin cream chai. Simple order, no add ins or substitutions. From the get go she seemed confused on what drink it was exactly and took a few minutes to get it in the register.

Nothing about that bothered me but it was the first red flag 🄲. I was just talking with my mom while we waited for our chais when I noticed she was making the drink slightly odd. Like pouring in random stuff even after it was finished. I could see from afar from where I was sitting and internally thinking ā€œoh?ā€.

Once we got our drinks i noticed the chai was really dark and assumed maybe it was extra chai and less milk. However after I had my first sip i realized it was coffee and somehow nothing tasted like pumpkin, not even the foam? Honestly the drink tasted like nothing but burnt coffee and coffee is good whatever I could work with it but it was a really burnt somehow sour coffee.

I felt bad and just kept drinking it and decided to not make a fuss cause again, she seemed young and was alone. I’m not upset at her just the situation and most especially who left her out there alone! Super messed up, I wonder if smaller franchise stores are run worse šŸ˜”.

My latte was sarcastic this morning

Disclaimer: I think the baristas being forced to write on cups is stupid. I am not sure if this was because I had to ask for a remake, I would rather they have the time to focus on the drinks and not mess around with sharpies.

Points System and Cutting Labor

Upvotes

If any ASMS or SMs can answer one question I have, that would be great. Earlier I had to cut a barista after he'd thrown up in our BOH. { He reported it to our ASM and to myself before I told him to go home and recover. }

He said that our ASM had informed us that she won't be able to let him use some of his sick time { which would be an hour and some minutes to make up for the remainder of his shift } and he texted me, asking if he would get hit with points.

Can I get some insight and some help?

Policy Question Fired several months after infraction??!

Upvotes

6.5 year partner/ shift manager here. This morning I was promptly fired for opening the store late. ( for context, I work at a Union store so we haven’t gotten the point system, and I was already on a final due to this happening several months prior ) The most recent incident, due to transportation reasons I ended up opening the store 8 minutes after open. This was over a month ago, and in that span of time I was never talked to about it or given any warning or notice. Is there anything I can do about this considering the gap of action? Legal or through corporate. All in all I was fired over roughly 12$ worth of potentially missed mobile orders. As much as this job is painful, it was my financial backbone and a termination is detrimental to my living situation.

Recipe Question Question for starb veterans

Upvotes

So I love a Starbucks and my go to order is a small caramel macchiato. Sometimes it’s mixed perfectly from the first sip but sometimes like today it’s not as good or all glooped at the bottom. So my question is do I need to say something when I order or am I just unlucky by who is making it?

Policy Question Is my manager correct

Upvotes

My manager scheduled me for pod training on a day that im unavailable for. She says that they’re allowed to schedule me for things like that even if its a day im not usually available. Is this true?

Edit: i have therapy that day and if i have to cancel i have to pay a fee because im on a set schedule with her.

😠 Rant 😠 Called out sick but my manager still wants me to come in

Upvotes

I’ve been throwing up all night with some kind of stomach bug and called out at about 5:30 am. I was the closing SSV for today and my manager is still asking me to come in later bc he scheduled all other SSVs to be working peak and has no one else (but himself) to replace me.

Like sir I literally am throwing up every hour or so and you want me to come in?!? Not doing that! You know it’s policy that I can’t come in after throwing up. I’m miserable this morning and that just irritates me. I gave them plenty of time as well to figure out coverage as my shift didn’t start till 11:30

I need the real truth

Upvotes

I am coming here to get the answer from the source. Refill policy. If I get an iced Americano and drink it in the cafe, can I get a coffee or iced coffee to go before I leave? I don’t want to exploit the refill policy or put a barista in an uncomfortable position. But one Starbucks tells me yes and gives me a coffee. Another says no, refill has to be what you originally drank and Americano is not eligible. I would never expect you to refill my Americano with another Americano, but iced coffee which is cheaper? Seems logical. But it’s Starbucks.

Being scheduled at another store

Upvotes

I know managers can schedule you outside of your availability but can they schedule you at another store without telling you? In a couple weeks I’m scheduled at another store which honestly isn’t a problem because it’s closer to home than my store but I’m just a little confused and maybe a little bit ticked (probably because I’m tired).

I know my manager is trying to give me the hours I want/am asking for and I very much appreciate that and I will absolutely work those hours because honestly, it’s no problem but I feel like asking or a heads up would’ve kind of been nice.

Policy Question Change to transfers?

Upvotes

Hi, 2 year partner looking to transfer about 7 hours away for school. I've told my plan to my SM for a year now, last week when I asked her how we get the process started she basically told me they changed how it works recently andI have to figure it out myself and submit an application (not transfer request) and be rehired essentially. Is this true?? If it makes a difference, I'm in Michigan. I've tried to find info about this in partner resources and here in the Reddit but I've not found anything that says this is the case? Is my SM bsing me?? If there has been a change, could anyone give me an actual detailed idea of how to go about transferring this way. My SM has not been helpful or clear at all.

I wish the order progress screen didn’t exist.

Upvotes

My store relatively recently got remodeled, and they added a digital order progress screen in the cafĆ©. It is constantly inaccurate and never reflects what we have actually done on the DPM, however, customers are consistently appointed to that screen, and their order is ready when it’s not and yelling at us. I think it is frustrating for both customers and baristas. I wish they would just fix it or get rid of it entirely.

Recipe Question I got the wrong drink and it was so much better than what I ordered.

Upvotes

I want to order it myself next time, but i feel like if I order what the label says, I won't get a full cup.

My order was a venti vanilla sweet cream cold brew.

The label on the cup i received said, " venti iced expresso, light ice, extra 3/4" 2% milk". The drink filled the venti cup...I would have thought this order would result in a half filled cup at most.

Can I just order like this and get the same drink, or do I have to ask for anything else to ensure the cup gets filled?

Thank you guys for any help!
