When I play games at 30 FPS on my PS5, PS4 or previously xbox 360, I don’t seem to notice the slow FPS.
(Obviously I rather play at 60 FPS, but on some games thats not possible). i do obviously notice a big difference when I play in performance mode (60FPS) vs. Quality mode (30 FPS).
When I play games on my gaming PC (GPU: RTX 3080) some demanding games play at 60 FPS or higher, but if it dips to lets say 55 FPS or 50 FPS, I notice that wayyyyy more than on console.
Is it because I am noticing the change (drop) in FPS more?
Or the fact I am playing my PS5 on a big tv sitting far away vs. Sitting close to my 144hz monitor?
Or I got used to the higher FPS on PC after playing for a whole, so if anything dips below 60 FPS its immediately becomes “unplayable”?
Appreciate any answers,
- Your friendly neighbourhood casual normie NPC gamer

Image above is Crysis 3 from 2013, we don't need a RTX 5070 to have good graphics, Crysis 3 will run at 1080p high settings on a RX 470 at 60fps. you can say "oh yeah but dynamic lighting and such" which is all good, until i cant turn it off and go back to baked lighting, the only reason we can't run modern games with graphics like these on RX 470 type cards is because the companies making these games are cheapskates who won't take the time for lower settings to run and look good.

I have a Gaming Laptop... I know, I know. It's not recommended to use them because they run like shit, but this one has been very trustworthy and faithful. I have had it since 2022? 2023? I don't particularly remember... But it's a HP Victus the 16" one I think? But anyways. I have been using it for gaming and it has been running like a DREAM, it can handle Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, No Mans Sky, HITMAN WoA, Days Gone, pretty much a lot of high quality games...
But now I am getting worried.
As we all know Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is coming out next year and I want to know if my Victus will be able to handle it, among other games like Legacy of the Dark Knight, Tomb Raider Catalyst and pretty much future games in general, cause as it stands... I won't have the funds for a proper Gaming rig for a WHILE.
So I just want to know if this beauty of mine will be able to handle future titles or not...

Hi. I a user of windows 11 for years now can’t get my own pc to respond or update now it’s requesting a clean reinstall because it’s failing to update or work at all. I was wondering if the switch to Linux is really worth it because I now can’t get my own PC to actually function and it’s so corrupted from installing these shitty AI updates that the disk is always 100% usage even though in task manager it’s not, I can’t barely get past the login screen and I can’t get simple apps to load without crashing. I’m so sick and tired of windows now that I’m genuinely thinking of switching. What Linux should I go too and what will actually work unlike Microslop Win Shit 11

hi,
if you have an old 40" that is 1080p, and a new 40" that is 4k, and put the same image on both monitors side by side, what will the difference be?
I just thought of this question after hitting my bong and I'm struggling to come up with an answer
i have a 27" and 24" monitors that are both 1080p, and when i drag a window from the 24" to 27" the window ends up looking bigger on the 27".
would it be the same thing? the 40" that is 4k will have way smaller icon and windows and the 40" that is 1080p will end up looking more "zoomed in" than the 40'' 4k monitor?

I used to always look for free games available in EpicGames every week to add to the library with the hope that one day I'll be playing them
Recently after the upgrade from 1050Ti to 9070GRE
I could now play the following games in very high settings
Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy
Bioshock Infinite
Hitman
Telltale Batman
This upgrade made me realise how good the 1050Ti was in supporting many games at decent settings and how important is game optimization. The Bioshock Infinite was specifically optimised nicely. The graphics were extraordinary in Old as well as the new GPU
Thank you EpicGames. Thank you to all who notified people of free games, Thank you and Kudos to the game optimizers for making the game playable for many

I was expecting a big leap in visual quality after seeing the demo videos in stores and hearing people talking about it but the colors seem washed out. Its only a little better than the LED monitor that I had before.
All my settings in Nvidia app is set correctly (RGB, 10 bpc, 32 bit, full) and I have HDR turned on, AUTO HDR off.
Went from LG 4k LED to LG 4k OLED and don't see much of a difference besides the picture being a little sharper and better blacks.

If we talk about games, there is always a minimal difference

UPDATE: I'm not going to buy a new PC. I'm going to drop in a 5700x3d that I already have, and possibly upgrade my video card (depending on what my PSU can handle).
Thanks to everyone for the great opinions and excellent advice!
Hi everyone. Sorry if this isn't the right place for this.
My current PC is as follows, and handles most games I play at 1440p just fine.
Ryzen 3600
32GB DDR4
3070ti
I don't game nearly as much as I used to. I'm sure I would game more with a new PC, but I kinda don't want to game more. I'm 41 and I try to spend my time doing yoga, exercising, cooking, cleaning, adulting, socializing, etc. Gaming is a huge time sink, that I don't get the same satisfaction out of anymore.
With that said, I'm seeing all these 5080 DLSS5 posts, and prices keep going up and up. I'm getting serious FOMO. I live near a Microcenter and I've been thinking of buying one of their 5080 precons, so I don't have to think or worry about PC upgrades for a good long while.
I'm not made of money, but paying $3k off over a year at 0% interest isn't a problem for me. Tell me oh wise ones of t/pcmasterrace.....what should I do?!?!
Edit: For all of you commenting about not using credit for a purchase like this, please allow me to enlighten you.
My Amazon credit card allows me to do 0% for 12 months (I have to make equal payments) on any purchases over $500. I've done that on big automotive repair bills. I've done it for dentist bills. It's a wonderful thing that allows me to keep more of my money in places that allow it to grow, as opposed to having to keep a lot of liquid in my bank account to cover large purchases/expenses.
You should put EVERYTHING on your credit card, if you can, as long as you can afford the payments.

First of all yes, I know I'm a regard and have been fooled by streamer marketing.
Somehow I led myself to believe that starforge was one of the better systems integrators so I got the voyager elite model with rtx 5090 (AMD chipset).
Call me crazy but I figured that buying one of their most expensive prebuilds would get me a decent SSD but it came with a crucial E100 ( CT200E100SSD8).
Don't get me wrong the build advertises a PCIe 4.0 NVME drive, which the crucial E100 is...
However it seems they included, to my knowledge the most bottom of the barrel drive you can get to meet that criteria in a build which includes the best possible GPU and CPU you can get for gaming these days.
Now I know the drive will not affect gaming performance (other than a tiny difference in loading screens) but installing games takes significantly longer and on top of that this drive has a TBW rating of less than 200 where the average 2TB nvme drive has a rating of 1200.
Do you think I just got unlucky or do they include this drive in all their top end builds?
Would you guys contact customer service and potentially refund this machine or am I over-reacting?
Just seems insulting considering everything else about the PC is quite impressive.
Please let me know your thoughts.
