Hi, I am a transfer student from Vanderbilt in econ major. I don't get any scholarships and have to pay full tuition. Do you think Vanderbilt is really worth that money for an econ degree and environment, or is a top-30 big state school enough as an international student? By the way, is it a frat or an investment club helps a lot for a consulting and IB career? Lastly, is an econ major competitive or not in Vandy? Thanks!

Do you need to submit additional letters of recommendation other than the Common App for the Ingram Scholars and the Chancellor's Scholarship? For instance, I have two letters for my Common App; do I need an additional one or two for the scholarship applications? I have been getting very conflicting answers online.

Is Vanderbilt cliquey? Do groups mix racially or remain segregated socially? Do you need to join Greek life to fit in?

Hey yall. I’m a first year student at UF (out of state), and Vandy has always been my dream school as long as I can remember. My high school stats were not the greatest, so I applied ED and got rejected. I would love to transfer as a sophomore for fall 2027, is there any advice on how I can go about it? Don’t know much about the process.

For context I’m studying Finance here, would probably apply for Econ/HOD at Vandy, and yes I am set on giving UF a fair shot I know it’s a great school, but there’s many reasons as to why I can see myself thrive better at Vanderbilt. Thanks

Hi - son likely applying ED and is interested in both HOD and Econ. Would likely double major. (Or consider one or the other with a business minor or even major in one and two minors if that’s even possible). Anyway, just wondering if there is an admissions advantage applying to Peabody (HOD) vs Arts & Sciences since he will have to pick one school for application but really has interest in majors in both schools.

has anyone taken computing with splines, it says no tests and hw so it seems like a lighter class than most of the higher level math classes. Is this true?

Econ major looking to graduate a semester early with 18 credits. I am not sure which additional majors or minors I'll be adding.

I'm currently taking:

- MATH 1200 (took calc AB in high school and did well)

- CORE 1010 (nice professor!)

- ECON 1010

- MUSL 1650 - history of rock music

- CHIN 2201 - have a bit of Chinese knowledge

- Vanderbilt Visions

Advisor recommended I drop MUSL 1650, but I'm not sure if it'll be offered in the future. Would love to hear what you all think.

Obviously tickets are pretty expensive rn which I’m not surprised about cause it’s ole miss. And I don’t want them to get more expensive later on but if they got cheaper that would be awesome obviously. Also I’m sure the time will also affect prices in case it’s a night game it’ll get more. Thinking of taking this course. Three professors are teaching it this semester, But i saw on rate my professor saying that PSY-PC 2110 taught by Hao Wu has super difficult final and it is super hard to get an A ?

Has anyone taken ECON 3610 (International Finance) or ECON 3230 (Urban Economics)? I’m trying to decide which one to take this semester and would really appreciate any advice from people who have taken either class.

I have a pretty busy semester, so I’m mainly looking for the class with the more manageable workload. How difficult are the exams and assignments, and how is the grading overall? Does either class require a lot of time outside of class?

Last year I transferred here from my state flagship, which was good, but I definitely fell for the prestige trap when applying to transfer since I’d gotten waitlisted at a lot of my top choices out of high school. My time here has been terrible, and I honestly regret leaving everything I built at my state flagship. The quality of education I’m getting in STEM feels no different, aside from the class sizes being much smaller.

I’m a junior now, and I honestly hate it here. I was dreading the end of my summer internship and having to come back to campus, and being here has only reminded me how much I wish I’d never come. The school is small and cliquey, and even with two years left, time feels like it’s crawling.

I’m wondering if I should drop out, transfer to a community college back home, and then transfer back to my flagship. I think I would’ve liked this school a lot more if I’d applied and gotten in out of high school, but my top choices were Top Public Schools. This place feels like another SMU but everyone puts it on a pedestal because of the low acceptance rate.

Anyway, I don’t know if I can make it four more semesters. Seriously considering dropping out.

hi guys, i’m an out of state low income student thinking about applying to Vanderbilt and i was wondering how good the financial aid is? I would already qualify for federal aid and stuff, but i would need additional aid and scholarships as well (i’m also applying to external scholarships). Hey, Im currently doing a career pivot into biotech as a sophomore. But, post grad, I would not like to work in a lab, I would probably want to do health tech or biotech consulting. Im already majoring in HOD, but would u recommend a degree in MHS or MCB to go along with HOD? MHS will be much easier to fit in my four years, but Idk if MCB is the smarter option.

Calling for advice from vandy undergrad students and alumni!

Incoming freshman interested in maybe dual majoring in Econ and Comp Sci, with a light? schedule first semester. I was debating emailing and switching into math 1201 instead of 1301, as taking the harder class seems purely unneccessary. However, I also was moved into Spanish 1103 after placing into 1101, and I was thinking about emailing to move to 1102 instead as I am just bad at it. Would it be possible to lower BOTH? is there any real downsides in doing such?
