Meta - Standard Voting (Re)Introducing - Quality Vote Bot: Reborn!

Upvotes

Hey everyone!

So for those of you who have been here a while, many may remember a bot called "Quality Vote Bot" that left a pinned message in every post's comments, and you all could vote on the bot, since voting is reversed for the actual post if you Agree/Disagree.

Sadly a couple years back, the bot was deactivated, and we went back to just the automod reminding everyone of our Golden Rule (rule 1); Upvote if you disagree—Downvote if you agree.

Well, I am very pleased to announce that it's successor, Quality Vote Bot Reborn has now been activated and should do exactly what the original one did!

It should be noted, the bot is designed to help weed out 'bad' posts, not ones you simply disagree with opinion-wise, but ones that either don't make sense, break rules, or are just lame or potentially fabricated, trolling, lying, etc.

And of course, since this is a meta post, normal voting rules don't apply, but by all means, vote on the bot to see if it works. In a few hours, it will re-post it's comment saying what you all determined, and if it comes back negative, post will automatically be removed.

Animals/Nature People who own snakes or tarantulas as pets are mentally disturbed

Upvotes

Why in the world would you have those horrifying things as a pet. U have to be a psychopath or something to like those vile things.

Snakes:

- they are cold blooded/static and very scary( when I say scary im not saying they are ugly. In fact some specimens are really beautiful. But there is an EVIL aura coming out of those creatures and I dont like it)

- they can be unpredictable and dangerous ( they can suffocate you to death or kill you with venom if they bite with fangs)

- Don't have feelings, emotions, whatever. Those things definitely dont love you and cannot show affection. They just tolerate your presence, being handled and their primitive brain probably associate you with treats ( food like dead mice)

Tarantulas:

- They are ugly and repulsing looking for most humans

- Just like snake, those things definitely dont love u. U know, its just a giant bug. So there's zero bond/emotional attachment between you and that thing .

- Just like snakes, they may "enjoy" being handled and tolerate ur presence, but they cannot show u affection the same way a dog/cat would. They cannot even really see you ( horrible vision despite having 8 eyes)

- Some are venomous and they can bite with their fangs

How in the world can Some people find those things cute?Give them nicknames and talk about them as if they are little puppies. They need some serious help. Those are the same people who will look at you sideways for having a rat as a pet but they have those demonic things in their home. If I ever learn someone has a snake at home, im unfriending them. Those things are demonic and only sadist or deranged people could own them.

Other I LOOOVE getting paresthesia!!!!

Upvotes

I love when my feet fall asleep! I like the pins and needles feeling! while I don't do it super often to avoid nerve damage, I love raising my arm for a little to lose circulation cause I love the feeling of it and I love the feeling of blood returning! sometimes I purposefully try and make my feet fall asleep and love moving them during and getting that pins and needles feeling!!!! I've always liked it. I like the simple feeling of them being asleep too, but I like the pins and needles a little more. I do the same thing with raising my limbs to cut off circulation with my legs too. I am very careful with it because I don't want nerve damage but if there was no risk id do that all the time 🩷

Society/Culture Girlfriend sounds hotter then wife

Upvotes

Just feels like girlfriend is more of the hot/sexy teen, full of possibility and potential while after marriage it sounds all boring and makes it a responsibility and legal obligation in which many are actually less happy but due to various reasons don’t want to get a divorce

Society/Culture Photos are pointless and should almost never be taken

Upvotes

I always see people wanting to take photos of stuff, and then posting it on their socials later and it seems like a pointless waste of time to me. The purpose of experiencing things is to be changed by them and the person you become is a reflection of all of those experiences. What good is capturing that moment, when its already captured inside the tapestry of experience that is yourself? The same is true of people saying they want to remember it, when the purpose of experiencing things is not to have good memories to reflect on, but to be a good person and reflect on that. All it does is interrupt whats being done and waste time, reducing the amount of transformative experience you get to have, and so detracting from the experience. Generally I'll begrudgingly accept if someone asks to take a photo, but will never take them myself. And yet, this is a hot take since so many people are always taking photos of stuff and posting on social media. There only real purpose is historical preservation of important events, since thats useful for educating people, but they have no purpose on an individual or personal level. Do you agree that photos are pointless?

Society/Culture Women wear heels to mog short men.

Upvotes

Big fish eats small fish, small fish eats shrimp. That's the kinda world we live in. Most women are shorter than even short men. Which makes them small fishes or shrimps. They don't wanna admit it so they start wearing heels.

You cannot blame women for doing it. In the human society height is very important, especially to intimidate others and or assert dominance. Another thing is to weed out short men from the dating pool. Most women don't wanna date short men unless the short man is extremely rich.

Other I really like the look of dyed blonde hair with grown out brown roots.

Upvotes

I always get really disappointed when I see girls with bleach blonde hair getting their dark roots covered because I think it looks so much better with the roots grown out. Something about it gives it so much more dimension, I think the contrast looks way better than just a clean head of blonde hair. A lot of girls I know are blonde and they fret so much whenever their roots become noticeable, about how unprofessional it looks, but I just really like it.

Society/Culture Being a Man is Much Harder Than Being a Woman

Upvotes

There has been so much attention paid to supporting women ans understanding their struggles, and rightfully so. But in all that we have forgot the struggles men face. Society has lessened the historical norms for women where that has not happened nearly as much for men. And now that most women work outside the home, men are also responsible for a lot of housework, raising kids, cooking, etc.

We talk about women's struggles all year round, and only focus on men in November. Male suicide rates continue to climb and are already higher than womens. Being a man is tough.

I'm well educated, have a good paying job, etc. Ive done what society has asked, and it's still never enough. I talk to my close male friends about this, and theyre in the same situation.

EDIT: Currently a 34% upvote ratio. Must be a lot more people who agree with me than the comments would suggest.

Other I hate drinking plain water

Upvotes

It's not that I genuinely hate the "taste" (because there really isn't one, but I still hate drinking it), it just feels like I have to force myself to drink it without enjoyment if I have to - It's like a chore. I get no enjoyment out of it unless I'm extrememly dehydrated and have no other option, so I actively avoid it. It's just uncomfortable to drink and it's kind of hard to explain. For some reason water in a glass has a certain smell I don't like as well?

I replaced water a long time ago with sparkling water which essentially has zero functional difference aside from carbonation, so why not? The carbonation essentially makes the drink extremely pleasing and gives me a great texture that I enjoy to drink. One more thing to mention is yes, I know seltzer can affect your enamel, but from my research it's mostly the citrus flavored seltzers. Those are basically my sodas but plain sparkling water does suffice.

The only time water is acceptable for me is right after intense exercise but that's pretty much it. I can work out with carbonation easily due to the tolerance I have built up, though I'm not sure if there are negative side effects.

Society/Culture It's really not that hard, as a man, to get compliments

Upvotes

I get compliments almost every day on my hair (curly fro). Mostly from women, but often from men as well. I also get compliments on my clothes and glasses occasionally.

Yet I keep seeing the sentiment that men never get compliments, and that women only compliment you when they want something:

Not in my experience. I highly doubt all of these women want anything from me. I'm not particularly handsome, and I'm far from a fuckboy or player (I've been extremely single for over 2 years). I just put a decent amount of effort into my hair and know how to throw an outfit together. These women simply want to share a little moment. Giving compliments feels almost as good as receiving one, you know? I also work in pretty social settings occasionally and witness other guys getting compliments (I also compliment other dudes frequently).

It's really not that bad out there if you're putting in the slightest amount of effort (the bar is in the floor). It wasn't always this way for me, but my hair is the first thing I've put a (relatively) significant amount of effort into, appearance wise, and I suspect that most guys who complain about a lack of compliments are in a similar situation as I was. Guys aren't taught how to look our best, or even to prioritize it in the first place. It's even stigmatized in some cultures, so ofc we don't get a lot of compliments.

Sorry about the rambling nature of this post, I'm a little sleep deprived. I also don't mean to humble brag or anything. I'm just saying: don't let internet sentiment color your view of the world and yourself. I promise you I'm not that special or extraordinarily handsome or anything (like I said, I didn't get as many compliments pre-effort): it's just that when I got to a place where started to appreciate my own appearance: others did as well.

Music I miss the times when YouTubers use background music more often in the 2010's. In the 2020's it's not used often anymore

Upvotes

Do you know Kevin Macleod and NoCopyrightSounds??????????????

Yes, their music was used too often when YouTubers needed those during the 2010's. In the 2020's there's barely background music and the audio I hear more often is the AI voice nowadays

Even in the 2020's, I barely hear YouTubers use music, not a single music in their videos even when the artist's music I mentioned are copyright free

If you want more context here to give you some deja vu:

Kevin Macleod:

Monkey Spinning Monkeys

Sneaky Snitch

Sneaky Adventure

NoCopyrightSounds: Just search up their most popular videos and those may a ring a bell to you

I think some still do this, but its rarer nowadays. Am I blinded by nostalgia or what???

I do have a similar post like this https://www.reddit.com/r/The10thDentist/comments/1w8psdh/comment/p84k4h6/?screen_view_count=1&ext-referrer=DIRECT

TV/Movies/Fiction I don’t like Sungwon Cho as a voice actor

Upvotes

It’s not that he can’t act, but he can’t seem to disappear into a role. He doesn’t sound like the character, he sounds like Sungwon doing a voice. It’s always very obvious when it’s him.

Like I would never have known that punch from Cowboy Bebop is the same voice actor as Xemnas. But Sungwon always sounds like himself. I wonder if it’s because of the skits he did on YouTube? I knew him from those before the voice acting.

The new ghost in the shell dub is pretty good, but he’s the worst part of it because Aramaki sounds like Sungwon doing a voice. He sounds like he’s about to talk to Commander Fistfight. He sounds like the Major has to rescue Prince Horace.

I played Avowed and he voiced a bunch of incidental characters. In games I don’t freak out about immersion breaking, but I did find it pretty immersion breaking when in Thirdborn I turned in some bounties to Sungwon Cho, before heading next door to shopkeeper Sungwon Cho to tell him his brother Sungwon Cho was dead of spider bite.

Technology AI checkers are actually pretty decent, and people who vehemently oppose them just don't want to be called out on their own AI use

Upvotes

As someone who was a student both before and after the popularization of LLMs, I've written plenty of essays prior to AI and plenty afterwards with the help of AI.

None of my dozens of paragraphs, essays, or documents prior to GPT have ever flagged as AI on an AI checker. Nothing I write today without the use of AI ever flags as AI on an AI checker.

The only work I produce which flags as AI-generated on an AI checker is, shockingly, work I've AI-generated.

Online there appears to be a widespread public opinion that AI checkers are unreliable, simply plagiarism checkers, or frequently flag innocent people as having used AI. While I don't doubt that sometimes these tools are wrong, the vehemence with which people oppose their use and the blatant falsehoods people spread about them (such as claiming that the Declaration of Independence would flag as AI-generated) don't jive with my personal experience.

The Declaration of Independence was not AI-generated
This essay about the Declaration of Independence was AI-generated
This post, which was not AI generated, does not flag as AI. Because I didn't use AI to write it.

Other There is no possible answer for why the universe exists which is satisfying

Upvotes

doesn’t matter what the flavor is. God, the big bang, aliens, eldritch whatever. there are ultimatly only two possibilities which matter when it comes to everything. Either, the universe at some point did not exist, then suddenly did; and nothing caused it. Or, the universe has always existed, and nothing caused it.

i don’t really care whether a god or gods or physics or what have you are responsible for us. all of those things have either always existed, or at some point they started existing. There is no way to resolve the question, fundamentally. There is simply nothing.

by universe I mean everything that exists. existence. whatever you want to call it.

Society/Culture I hate how people like garlic on reddit

Upvotes

I love garlic. I use it a lot in my cooking. I have just noticed the pattern that it's the food equilavent of being quirky in that annoying reddit way. People are starting to be somewhat self aware and making fun of stuff like "wholesome hecking pupperino" or whatever reddit users were saying 5 years ago but the same type of talking about food has gone unpunished with garlic.

Like yes we get it you use 5 times more than what the recipe says if I'm going to read that same copy paste comment another time I'll end up in prison or an insane asylum

Edit: I think a lot more people would understand if they had an example so here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Cooking/s/xz2HD6daHn

It's comment fields like that I've had the displeasure of having to read over and over for years for being somewhat active in the cooking side of reddit. It's like that on other non-food subreddits as well whenever the concept of cooking gets brought up

Discussion Thread People who give smal alive mammals to their pet snake are sadist NSFW

Upvotes

If you search " rabbit snake live feeding "on YouTube , you will find several videos of snake owners throwing alive rabbits in snake enclosures... leading to the horrible death of the former. And apparently YouTube is completely fine with hosting those kinda videos. Don't get me started with the " its nature" argument. No,it is natural: trapping a prey and a predator in a confined space isn't natural at all. In nature, prey animals have always a chance to escape wich isn't the case when they are in a cage. And the second argument "snakes only eat alive prey" doesn't work also. Don't be lazy and just heat up a pre-frozen mouse and move it with chopsticks in front of the snake. The snake isn't smart and will definitely believe the prey is alive and will strick it. Thats it. Enough with the laziness or maybe those people should just admit they are sick and sadistic in their head and they actually enjoy seeing a defenseless creature being brutally killed . Maybe we should thrown them next time in a vivarium with an giant Nile crocodile and see if they will like it. Also why would someone give a sentient being (a rabbit) to an horrible reptile? Mammals are way more sentient and affectionate than a cold emotionless snake. Make zero sense.

Animals/Nature People who are offended that cats and dogs are being eaten in certain countries are weird and need to grow up. NSFW

Upvotes

Cats and dogs arent special. In western countries, people eat ducks, rabbits, hare, chicken, goat, pig, horse, lamb, sheep, cow, etc. Many of those animals are just as smart as a dog or a cat or some are even more intelligent ( pigs are very smart). Also those animals can very well also be kept as pets like cats and dogs and can be very affectionate toward their owner. That doesn't change the fact that we eat them. And yeah in some Asian countries like Vietnam, they eat cats and dogs. So what? U all offended people need to grow up lol. Cats and dogs are just animals like any other animals. Why would one be offended/disgusted to learn his burger was made with dog meat instead of pig meat meanwhile pigs are smarter than most dogs? Make zero sense. Fake outrage

Society/Culture Social media has psyoped the population into thinking genuinely good/kind people exist. Kind people are just over glorified "pick me's"

Upvotes

For example, take the discourse around "kind people". Do people show kindness in today's world? Yes, but the people who show displays of kindness to any and everyone random are trying hard to put up a farce to make themselves likable. They will use this social network they create to their advantage later on.

Society/Culture Most women prefer unattractive and average men to settle down.

Upvotes

It's because of leverage if a person is more attractive than you, has more education, money etc... then you will have less leverage in the relationship. You can just flex your money, your education and your looks on them. Then they will accept defeat and obey you. Big fish eats small fish, small fish eats shrimp. That's the kind of world we live in.

Women understands this and are willing to settle down with unattractive men and average men.

TV/Movies/Fiction There are probably justifiable applications of generative AI use for visual effects.

Upvotes

I'm no AI apologist and think there are definitely some dark times ahead with gen AI, and I don't want movies full of slop, but I think there are probably reasonable applications of AI as a tool for visual effects artists to help achieve the same results in less time. With visual effects being one of the most time consuming stages of a movie's production and visual effects artists often severely overworked, I feel like this is one of the more understandable AI uses, assuming it is used responsibly and not as a replacement for actually talented visual effects artists.

This came to my attention as director Danny Boyle was recently discussing use of AI in his upcoming movie, as apparently it is very effective at replicating animals. As you can probably imagine, there have been some very negative responses to this, but to me it doesn't feel like the moral outrage some are suggesting.

I am open to counterarguments, as I don't know a great deal about the visual effects industry and how AI factors into it.

Discussion Thread We’ve gotten so obsessed with narratives that we’ve forgotten how to recognize the obvious.

Upvotes

A lot of things that were once straightforward have been buried under endless theories, discourse, and ideological interpretations. Eventually, nobody can even agree on what the original thing meant anymore.

And there’s an incentive to keep things confusing. Confusion creates debate, debate creates engagement, and engagement gives everyone another opportunity to push their own narrative.

You see this especially with race and identity. Things that could be discussed relatively simply are sometimes turned into incredibly complicated ideological frameworks where you’re expected to read the “correct” books before you’re even allowed to have an opinion.

Sometimes reality isn’t actually that complicated.

We just made it complicated.

And somehow, the person pointing that out becomes the problem.

Technology YouTube should get rid of monetization

Upvotes

This is not me saying I don't think people should get paid for their content. The platform is now just about chasing whatever will get you the most views to make money off of. People have stopped making content in the way they want to simply to try and fit into youtube's arbitrary guildines for monetization. If money was completely off the table, I feel like a lot of the texture would come back to the platform. Content creators do have their own voice, but they all end up walking down the same path together. People can't talk about certain topics or say certain words out of fear of demonetization and it's made all the content on the platform bland and colorless. Love him or hate him, it feels like the last youtuber that was part of the old guard that was majorly successful and made the content he wanted to, rules be damned, was Filthy Frank, and he stopped making content ages ago.

It has also lead to this game of oneupmanship that Mr Beast has totally dominated and if money were not on the table that sort of overproduced ADHD inauthentic algorithm driven content would not be made. It would also make AI content and slop farms no longer financially viable. The Elsagate stuff would not have happened as terribly as it did (and content like that still gets made) because of the money it brings in on YouTube.

There are other platforms like Patreon where people can give creators money. I know demonitizing YouTube would not solve ALL of these issues, but it would solve a good deal of them. This would also give other video websites a chance to come up that might offer monetized videos and force YouTube to actually compete instead of removing features like dislikes which no youtuber wanted.

Idk, food for thought.

Other Acne/bad skin doesn’t make you any less attractive

Upvotes

I’ve always thought this since I was young, I don’t think acne or spots makes a person ANY less attractive, my logic is that your facial features stay the same and it’s usually not something you can control at all so therefore it has never made me find someone any less attractive ? Also I think it can be cute, especially on the cheeks.
