Political | პოლიტიკა We should be fighting russian imperialism ideologically too

Upvotes

been thinking about this. if we want this war to end and stop the same shit from happening again, we should also be trying to change the minds of people who support it. even some of the ones waving Z flags right now.
obviously we won’t convince everyone. but we should be explaining that a free russia without imperial ambitions would be better for them too. that their country can have a future without occupying its neighbors, and abandoning imperialism doesn’t mean hating their own country.
if someone believes losing the war means their country gets destroyed and they’ll be hated forever anyway, what reason do they have to stop supporting it? my worry is that as the losses grow, some will get more hateful and double down instead of questioning what got them there.
germany and japan both went through defeat, occupation and massive changes after ww2. i’m not saying internet comments can replace that. but their history shows that losing an imperial project doesn’t have to mean losing your country’s future.
why wait until the war is over to start making that possibility visible?
ukraine still needs to fight back. occupied territories, including in georgia, still need to be returned. but alongside that, we should be challenging the idea that russia needs an empire to survive or have anything worth being proud of.
i think this is worth making a wider effort — in posts, comments, conversations, wherever we can actually reach people. we don’t need to convert every hardcore imperialist for it to matter.
what do you think? could this make a difference?

Help | მჭირდება დახმარება Thinking of opening a South Indian place in Tbilisi — is there actually demand, or am I kidding myself?

Thumbnail
Upvotes

Hi all. I'm from Chennai and I've been seriously considering moving to Tbilisi to open a small Indian restaurant. Before I do anything expensive or stupid, I'd rather hear from people who actually live there.

I've noticed almost all the Indian food in Tbilisi is North Indian — butter chicken, tikka masala, biryani, naan. What I cook is South Indian: dosa, idli, sambar, coconut chutney, Chettinad-style curries. Different food entirely, lighter, mostly rice-based, and a lot of it is naturally vegetarian.

A few things I'd genuinely like to know:

•Have you eaten Indian food in Tbilisi, and if so, what did you think of it?
•Is there anything you wish existed and doesn't?
•Would something like a dosa place actually interest you, or is that too unfamiliar for most people here?
•Which parts of the city do you think are underserved for food in general?
•Roughly what would you expect to pay for a proper sit-down meal like this?

I'm not launching anything soon and I'm not trying to promote a business that doesn't exist. I'm at the stage of finding out whether this is a real idea or just a nice daydream. Honest discouragement is as useful to me as encouragement, so please don't soften it.

Thanks for reading.

Hi everyone, im planning a trip to Georgia this month and i need info about my itinerary.

Im planing to go to Kazbegi region, first day travel from Tbilisi to Stepantsminda, and hike to Gergety church, and sleep there.

Second day i want to hike Juta but i dont know is it doable in one day and then get back to Tbilisi same day, or is it better to stay one more night after that hike in Stepantsminda and go back to Tbilisi next day?

Help | მჭირდება დახმარება Looking for a leatherworker / leather repair shop in Georgia

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for someone in Batumi, Kutaisi or Tbilisi who is experienced with leatherwork or leather repairs.

I have an old pair of headphones where the leather covering is starting to peel and deteriorate. I’d love to have the damaged material removed and the headband re-covered with real leather (or another durable material).

I’m not sure what the right profession would be called in Georgia — perhaps a leatherworker, leather repair shop, upholsterer, or someone who repairs bags/shoes?

Does anyone know a good craftsman or shop in Batumi, Kutaisi or Tbilisi who might be able to do something like this?

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or contacts. Thanks!

History | ისტორია Any recommendations for an unbiased book recounting the events of the Abkhazia conflict?

Upvotes

I want to learn more about the Georgia-Abkhazia conflict - does anyone have any recommendations for a book that presents the facts with minimal bias. Thinking in the same vein as Thomas de Waal’s Black Garden, which presented the history of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict while giving the point of view of both sides.

Help | მჭირდება დახმარება Scrapping foreign car in Georgia

Upvotes

Hi!

I saw this post about "donating" a foreign car to the government in Georgia to avoid paying the exorbitantly high import fees.

I find myself in the same situation, having planned a "suicide trip" with my car and not having done enough research beforehand such that I only have a few days to rid myself of the car soon enough.

I would appreciate any help if someone has more information about this (apparently tedious) process.

Thank you!

Hello, my wife and I will be in Tbilisi next week and have about a week to do some traveling. I do want to see Tbilisi but id like to hike a bit in the mountains as well. We don't have time for Mestia as flights are sold out. Should we just spend time in Kasbegi or is there somewhere else worth seeing? Thanks in advance!

Leftover Georgian Lari

Upvotes

Hi! I just got back from an incredible trip to Georgia and I find myself with leftover Georgian Lari. I would love to get it off of my hands if someone in the NYC/NJ area (or anywhere in the U.S. really) is planning a trip there soon.

Feel free to PM me and enjoy your beautiful trip to this amazing place!

Question | კითხვა Solo trip to Georgia in September – What should I pack and what should I know?

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m planning a solo trip around Georgia from September 13 to September 21, and I’d love to get some advice from people who have been there.

I’m not sure what the weather will be like, especially in the mountains, so I’m wondering what kind of clothes I should bring. Would I need a rain jacket?

My itinerary is:
Tbilisi
Kazbegi
Mestia
Ushguli

I’ll be traveling independently rather than joining organized tours. I’ll be staying overnight in each area, and I’m planning to use local buses for transportation.

I’m also planning to:
Hike to Shkhara Glacier
Hike to Gergeti Trinity Church
Watch the sunrise in Kazbegi

Since I’ll be traveling alone, are there any things I should be particularly careful about? I’d also appreciate any advice about transportation, hiking, weather, or anything else I should know before going.

And if you have any favorite restaurants, cafés, or other places in Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Mestia, or Ushguli, I’d love to hear your recommendations!
Thanks in advance!

Question | კითხვა How do marshrutkas work in Georgia?

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to travel around Georgia alone as a woman, and I’m wondering how marshrutkas work.
Do I need to book them in advance, or can I just go to the bus station and get on?

I’m planning to use marshrutkas for most of my transportation, so I’m a little worried about how it works, especially since I’ll be traveling alone.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion | დისკუსია I made a Discord for Yu-Gi-Oh players in Georgia

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’ve noticed that every few years someone posts here or in r/tbilisi asking whether anyone in Georgia actually plays Yu-Gi-Oh, but there still isn’t really one place where everyone can find each other.

So I decided to make a Georgian Yu-Gi-Oh Discord.

The idea is to bring together:

  • Physical TCG players
  • Master Duel players
  • Collectors
  • Beginners / returning players
  • People looking to trade or build decks

And if we manage to get enough physical players together, I’d really like to start organizing casual meetups and eventually tournaments in Tbilisi.

Doesn’t matter if you play competitively, casually, haven’t played in years, or just want to get into the game.

If you’re interested, here’s the Discord:

https://discord.gg/SwTUTa3Yw

Also, if you know anyone in Georgia who plays Yu-Gi-Oh, feel free to send this to them.

I built a free app to find apartments in Batumi & Tbilisi — looking for feedback

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm the developer of a small app called Keygo. I built it to make finding a place in Georgia simpler — everything in one clean feed instead of scrolling endless channels and chats.

What Keygo does:

- Browse apartments for rent or sale in Batumi and Tbilisi (also commercial spaces)

- Swipe-style feed, map view, filters, and video tours of the places

- In-app chat

- Works in Georgian, English and Russian

Posting a listing is completely free.

A tip if you post: add a video tour. Listings with a video tour get seen a lot more and show up higher in the feed — a short walkthrough gives people a real feel of the place, far better than photos alone, so you get more responses.

I'd really appreciate honest feedback from people who actually rent here — what's missing, what would make it genuinely useful, and whether the listings feel relevant to you. Not trying to spam, just want to build something useful for people living in Georgia. Thanks!
