Recently, I (25M) have been betrayed by a few people. I do not want to get into specifics as it may reveal my identity, but it resulted in me losing my job.
I know you may have heard this train of thought before, and may assume I'm hiding allegations of sexual assault or something vile but I promise you that's not the case.
I lost my job based on a determination made from half-truths and blatantly false information regarding a harmless activity that everyone in my department does on a weekly basis. An activity they goaded me to engage in whenever it was appropriate.
In hindsight, it should've been obvious to me I was not liked. Most of them were not bad, I liked them. But a few of them saw me as a clown.
Constant underhanded insults, constantly forcing racially provocative conversations with me. Constantly complaining about members of my race. All while I'm trying to maintain a friendship with these people. Keeping my own mouth shut because I didn't want to be ostracized.
Other vile remarks, blatantly saying that they think all Muslims need to be rounded up and executed. And instead of reporting this I thought it was a good idea to just "Explain" to this guy why that's an incredibly vile thing to talk about in a workplace because I didn't want to jeapordize someone else's job simply because we didn't agree on something. I didn't want to be that guy.
Well today I'm jobless, because someone took advantage of my stupid fucking mistake. Not only that, but to go great lengths to fabricate malice on my end, as if the truth of my stupid fucking mistake wasn't enough.
No even given a chance to apply my knowledge or aptitude on the job. Worked so hard for this, literally sacrificed so much of my personal life and time for this opportunity, only to lose it because someone was a tiny bit racist? Because I gave someone the ick? Not even a chance to prove or disprove my ability and keep my pride?
Frankly, I should be pissed at myself for not seeing this coming. For all I love to talk about systemic racism and "Guilty until proven innocent" for black men I was a goddamn fool, and gave them the perfect excuse to throw me away like garbage.
This isn't even the first time something like this has happened to me. This has happened in elementary, in middle school, in a private school, multiple times with my own family, previous jobs. I can never see this coming. I try and I can't see it. Even when it's in my face I can never see it.
It's so hard to even take responsibility for my mistake because what am I taking responsibility for? Obviously guys at work are cackling because they can't look past the immediate pleasure watching a black person suffer gives them.
Some senior folks at work think what I did was stupid but agree it's being utilized in bad faith. A few supervisors feel I just straight up never listen to them and that this is the natural consequence of my attitude even if they think it's excessive.
And my family... They think I'm defective and that God is "Teaching me a lesson". Little do they know, had I not done this to myself, I'd be making over $200k/yr by the end of the decade and would've most likely given back to them. I would be pissing money. Yet is how they act when I'm weakened? This is how they really feel about me? These were the people I planned on wasting chunks of the income I might've had to please? Still shocking to me.
Best case scenario I'm never going to see 6 figures again. I'm too far along life to be making excuses and I need to do something, even if it's joining the military. I never agreed with it, but it's a good place to learn practical skills that I failed to acquire as my parents actively sabatoged all attempts for me to find work as far back as 2019. Perhaps wash away the student loan debt I acrueed on whatever degree daddy told me to pursue, with absolutely no prospects or understand of what I could use it for.
I wont have enough to provide to family anymore. That's for sure. Whatever it is, and whatever the intent was, it's my mistake and I need to fix this for myself
If anyone reading this has an idea of who I am, I'm just trying to get this off my chest. Please don't bother or address me on this.
