Sleeping is dumb and i wish we evolved better

Upvotes

Imagine having to halfway die every however many hours in order to function. What purpose could that possibly serve like genuinely just get over it atp. The whole process of getting to sleep and waking up is a huge pain in the ass and a waste of time where i could get things done. You cant choose when you fall asleep you just kinda wait until you pass out. Also you cant move at all or else it doesnt work. I hate being tired even more, just out of nowhere for no reaspn i can do stuff anymore i lose 70% of my brain cells and it just puts me in a foul mood. How hard would it be to evolve to not even sleep like how has that not been bred out yet WHY do i need to go through this every night. Thats the other thing its EVERY NIGHT, 2 or 3 times a week id be ok with but i have to go through the effort every single night, or else im guaranteed a horrible day the next day. Its genuinely upsetting that i have no choice or autonomy in the matter, it just HAS to happen. How tf can i be expected to do something when the bit of my body that tells me to do it ALSO makes it IMPOSSIBLE TO DO STUFF. can we remove sleep in the next patch pls its getting ridiculous

Knowing too much: One of the many things that I hate about getting old.

Upvotes

Obviously, the older I get the more stuff I learn. On the surface this sounds like a positive thing, right? But there's absolutely something so true to the phrase "ignorance is bliss."

All that my age-aquired knowledge seems to have given me are the curse of knowing how miserable life is for so many people, and the unfortunate ability to always figure out the ending to psychological thrillers less than half-way through the film.

Time

Upvotes

I just saw a post saying that 2040 is closer than what 2008 is, and it's made me realise how brutal the never ending relentless march of time is. I was 8 & 9 in that year, and I'm going to be 40/41 in 2040.

I'm not saying that I remember and cherish those days as much as I do my teens, but it's crazy to think about. Crazy to think my parents were in their late 30s and will be in their 70s by the time 2040 hits. Crazy to think that video games like COD and GTA 4 were the pinnacle of high graphic games and look were they are now. Electric cars in 2008 were absolutely becoming a thing but still realistically a distant dream, and now we have essentially self driving cars, who knows what vehicles will look like by 2040.

The population of where I live has doubled since 2008, and is only getting bigger, and I miss my city having that small town vibe.

I kinda just miss being a kid.

I deserve a girlfriend.

Upvotes

Every day is the fucking same, I wake up in this bullshit world in an empty, cold bed with zero warmth, I don't even have the blessing of smelling a girl's hair when I wake up and it depresses me. And yet, I see a bunch of girls going after shit guys who can't even clean themselves up or drive cars.. but they reject me? A guy who is attractive, tall, has a career, and a car? I'm too fucking kind, gentle, and funny and handsome to not have a fucking girlfriend. Girls should be lining up, yearning for my attention. Oh well. I'll just keep working up to it ask one out soon, then my life can finally get started.

THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE OUT THERE

Upvotes

I am so tired of people acting like everyone sucks. Especially men. (Yes, I understand that violence against women is a very big and real issue, and I would take the bear over the man, however) As a woman, I know what men think about (and you know what, a lot of women think about it as well!!). I had posted about mixed signals before and how I like this guy but he doesn’t want a relationship and everyone is like “he’s stringing you along for sex” and “it’s cute that you think because you told him you don’t want to hookup he’ll respect that”. I like to believe that there are respectful guys out there. Shame on me for having faith and hope that there are good people out there.

Idk it’s just frustrating. Yes I know that we have to be wary as women, but I know this guy and I have faith that he understands no means no. There are good people out there, and I try to live by the thought process of hope.

Fornication is awarded way too often

Upvotes

I don’t care about your beliefs surrounding marriage, and I don’t care how other people live their lives. But it’s so annoying and plain aggravating that people who fornicate and create broken families by not being married get more government benefits than people who follow tradition. I have a sister in law who’s household makes the same amount as mine (100k annually) but because she lives with and fucks her boyfriend without being married, she gets WIC for taking care of her step-mom’s kid ONCE EVERY SOMETIMES. Meanwhile I have a baby (that’s actually mine) and one on the way and because I followed the rules and decided to keep my dignity by getting married, I cannot get any help whatsoever with formula, diapers, food, etc. Do I need help? No. But neither does she and she gets everything for free, as well as so many other people who are hacking the system. It’s so annoying. I swear to god we live in Babylon.

I'm so tired of having to pee all the time

Upvotes

To start I don't think anything has particularly changed for me, so it's not really a medical concern. I just am so frustrated with this stupid biological need.

You're telling me I drink one glass of water and one cup of coffee with breakfast and then I have to piss three times before I ever have another sip of something? And I'll just. have to piss. all my life all the time?

Sometimes it just feels like it's impossible I'm peeing this much with my fluid intake. I am by no means a hydration freak, I just drink when I'm thirsty.

I'm so tired please release me from this flesh prison

The downfall of sponge bob.

Upvotes

WTF happened to sponge bob? I assume it’s because the original creator isn’t on it anymore. But Goddamn.

My entire childhood is sponge bob, I used to stay up all night with my dad as a kid watching. Both of us would watch, we memorized nearly every one of the old episodes. He bought all the cd’s. It was our thing.

And as I got older, and as the years went by, we stopped watching and the quality degraded further and further. Now, as I see my little sister watching it’s so gross. And sponge bob had always been kinda gross, but this is really really gross. It’s not funny, or interesting, just relying on brash humor to make kids laugh by talking about butts and snot and other gross shit.

It’s unbearable. I’ve noticed this same effect with many other older cartoons, it’s so sad. Why is that?

My coworkers keep throwing trash in the returnable drink container bin

Upvotes

yeah it's not the end of the world, but it is so fucking annoying.

there's a sign behind the bin saying what it's for. the sign has been there as long as the bin has.

and someone (or multiple someones) keeps throwing the wrong shit in it. paper towels, coffee cups, chip bags, cookie packets.

I messaged the group chat reminding everyone, still more garbage. OTHER PEOPLE messaged the group chat reminding everyone, still more garbage. I put up a simple guide on what is and isn't returnable right next to the original sign. STILL MORE GARBAGE.

I made a sign saying NO GARBAGE, NO PAPER TOWELS and taped it to the bin. right on the front where you CANNOT MISS IT.

and STILL. MORE. GARBAGE.

it's only a few cents per container, sure. but it takes ZERO EFFORT to stop tossing garbage in when the trash bin is RIGHT NEXT TO IT.

it's not even about the damn containers anymore. it's about grown ass adults who can't or won't follow such a clear, simple ask. at this point I feel like I have to start being mean about it or they won't take it seriously.

are some of my coworkers just so moronic that they can't read signs? are they doing it on purpose to be assholes? I don't know which is worse.

People can't get over how I was a year ago and I cant really get over the shame

Upvotes

I've recently gone into college after a very eventful previous year in which I went through my first 'heartbreak', lost my best friend, my sister and another bsf nearly died, I moved schools three times and eventually had to drop out entirely, and then my mum sabotaged my attempts to get into the only college I was really interested in (she was well meaning thinking the college would be bad for me but unable to stop me actually applying but this deadass was the final straw for me I went genuinely crazy 😭) And more but I'd say that pretty much covers the worst of it.

suffice to say I was far from mentally well and mentally unwell people do not act rationally, normally or with much shame, which was very much the case for me. I also received an autism diagnosis after all of this, so I was dealing w undiagnosed neurodivergence all my life which impacts your life and how you act so deeply and intrinsically that I genuinely believe it's one of those things you have to live through to properly grasp. The diagnosis, however, turned my life around, as learning about autism and therefore myself became quite a hobby for me so j begin to understand why I act the ways I do, how to change, how to take care of myself etc. I deffo still act embarrassingly sometimes but overall I am far better than what I was like a year back.

Unfortunately, during that time, I was just a whole mess. I was verging on psychotic at times before I dropped out of school, and then after that is when my mental wellbeing improved. However nobody knows this and since going to college I'm surrounded by people who only know what I used to be. Everywhere I go is "omg is that [name]?", people staring at me, a good few people have even just been looking at me and laughing, even people I've never spoken to (these are mainly my ex's friends cos I was so embarrassing after we broke up but it's like I never even spoke to these people 😭)

I'm constantly filled w the need to show people that I've changed and I'm not remotely the same girl, but there's no way of even doing that so I just feel so sad and ashamed all the time. I don't even want to really make fun of the girl I was then BC she was really going through it but I'm still just embarrassed all the time

I don't want to hear or read that people are lonely ever again

Upvotes

All I seem to read on here is that people are lonely. They are looking for dates or friends or some such BS

But when that translates to real life nobody seems to want to connect. I'm 62M, happily married for over 30 years. I'm not up for dating. I just want to find 2 or 3 cycling buddies for my longer rides. My wife and children are not into cycling, so I ride alone. I just want some cycling buddies.

I've tried the craigslist activities section - boy was that a mistake. I might as well have posted an escort ad

I've tried strava and all I get is pig butchering connections

I've tried talking to people on the tralls

Nothing! So I don't want to hear about lonely people - get out there and connect with people!

Playing with tools was the worst hobby ever. I hate tools.

Upvotes

Tools and DIY were the stupidest hobby ever, especially given I never enjoyed them - they were merely a way to perform masculinity.

As a boy, I never fit in, and I had no interest in typically masculine things - until my parents had the front yard landscaped and I was fascinated watching the workers put together the irrigation system. I was fascinated, and I began having interest in tools and what not - not because I was genuinely interested, but because it was the only masculine activity I somewhat tolerated. After all, I hated sports, I hated roughhousing, but nobody would question my masculinity if I was the young tool genius.

At age 13, right before entering high school, I decided I wanted to be normal, and I chose a new way of coping - being a tech bro. It offered a breath of fresh air and I even made a friend who also liked computers. That lead to an interest in graphics and then video editing, and I soon wanted to be a content creator. I had also become fascinated with 2016 era baddies like Sommer Ray, Alyssa Violet, and the Kardashians. Of course, liking the Kardashians was not really acceptable as a teenage boy, so I had to pretend to hate them. That all came crashing down pretty quickly though, as I got a few cute accessories I thought I could hide but then they were called "really pretty" by a girl.

I immediately dove headfirst back into tools, this time harder than the last. I bought a welding machine and spent hundreds of dollars on specialized metalworking tools. I turned my garage into a full-blown machine shop, spending every single weekend playing with tools. I ignored extracurricular activities and stopped studying, telling myself that "college is for losers anyways, real men join a trade". I never even built anything useful, I just welded scrap metal together.

During the 2020 COVID lockdown, I went even further into tools, doing major projects like repiping the house and more. The social isolation also made me turn to online tool forums for social connection, and I absorbed their toxic masculinity. The tool forums also got me into MAGA bullshit, and I had a phase where I genuinely supported fascism and Trump. While I did some useful projects, I was obviously still an amateur, and there were often mistakes made that required expensive professional repairs - including a disastrous attempt at DIY drain cleaning that lead to major water damage.

In 2021, I started community college (mom made me go after she told me the trades are bad) and I loved it! I quit playing with tools entirely and sold off most of mine. I seemed to be a normal college student, though again, all my friends were girls and I completely failed at male social interactions.

Then, in my second semester, I took a test in my communication course that revealed I had a feminine communication style. All hell broke loose. I immediately began a massive rearmament, buying specialized tools and spending every weekend in the garage again. I'd finish my classes, then go straight home and tool. This continued through my first year of university after transferring as well - but then my egg cracked.

I just couldn't keep tooling, so I began HRT and started growing my hair out. It's been 1.5 years and I just had SRS, and I am now living as a woman - but I just can't help but look back and think - what the fuck. I was a teenager, essentially LARPing as a grumpy old contractor. If it wasn't for the tools, I am sure I would have discovered my true self sooner and I wouldn't be suffering with voice training and constantly getting cosmetic injections to fix my jacked up dude face. Ugh, I HATE TOOLS!

And before anyone comments, no I do not want to be a "handyqueer". I hate tools. I hate DIY. I have no plans for homeownership. I just want to be a woman.

I hate myself NSFW

Upvotes

I am so insecure, I feel awful about myself. I’m on anti depressants and anxiety medication now so it’s kinda easier to get through all this pain I’m feeling. I’m dating an amazing man, our first ever official relationship and I love him dearly. We both have troubles with hypersexual tendencies from trauma from our childhood, and he used to have so many gooner figures. At the start of our relationship I was very insecure. He was very kind and understanding, but seeing the woman he liked even if they were fictional was hurting me deeply and I didn’t want that. Now as I’m older I feel like this stuff doesn’t matter, but I only feel bad at the fact that he had never really complimented my appearance until recently this year. I asked him a lot to give me more compliments on my appearance because it would make me feel a bit better, but it took him years to start and now it just feels really forced and fake to make me happy. I guess I don’t feel it’s genuine.

I’ve been bullied my whole life for having albinism, and I’ve been shin out of my community because I look too white since I don’t look like someone with albinism. Since I have darker hair and features because I have a different type of albinism, it’s not typically the platinum blonde red/purple eye thing.

I just feel really bad about myself. I tried therapy but it didn’t work out three times I went. I just feel so small and alone about my body and my face and it makes me hate myself day to day. I had so much trouble looking in the mirror and going out because of all the bullying, trauma and anxiety I had in middle school and high school.

Now that I’m feeling a lot better than I had been years ago I just feel empty. The pills make me aware, I notice more people looking at me, I notice how people make fun of me or how stare so obviously. I’ve never felt so lonely in my entire life than the past 10 years. And I’m only 20 now 😅

It’s so hard to make real friends because people think I’m creepy and I hate it so much.

I can’t stand people who hope/pray for large amounts of snowfall

Upvotes

It’s probably the dumbest pet peeve of mine, but it absolutely enrages me.

My local news station posted their annual winter weather predictions for this upcoming winter. I was dumb enough to check the comments.

One person commented “bring on the snowstorms!”, another said “the more the better! I hope it snows a foot everyday!” And lastly, “I pray we get a couple of snowstorms!”…yeah I pray we don’t. It sent me into a fit of rage. The exclamation points at the end of every comment really sent me over the edge.

If you pray for snowstorms, you’re most likely one of 3 people…

1). Unemployed and living with your parents. Or retired, and have the luxury of never needing to leave your house

2). You have a cushy job with the luxury of staying home, yet still being able to make money those days

Or 3). You have the means to purchase a fancy car with the ability to magically trek through a snowstorm unscathed.

I work in EMS. I don’t have the luxury to call off. Medics are still required, even in snowstorms. And if I’m at the station, and a snowstorm occurs, I can’t leave until I have relief. If I leave, it would be categorized as “Patient negligence”. Not to mention, the sudden onslaught of motor vehicle accidents that occur during large snowfalls. If you ever had to take care of someone suffering from serve hypothermia in the middle of a snowstorm, you would never pray for one ever again.

I can already tell I’m going to be a grinch this upcoming winter. It’s only September and I’m already fuming at everyone’s stupid comments

reaching a breaking point

Upvotes

well all want someone but no one wants to be someone

if you met me face to face, you wouldn't think i'm a misanthropist. if anything, you'd think i'm a humanist from how i try to act. i wouldn't consider myself a "good person" the things i do for other people are because i want to do that for them. i do consider myself a very kind, gentle, loving and expressive person but i've been relentlessly punished for my personality, seen as weird and used for my kindness.

i'm 19 and i'm done with this world and society. i don't care how edgy that sounds, but when you're constantly surrounded by people who agree that the world needs to change but doesn't make the active effort to try exhausts me to my core. everyone uses you in some way. people don't want a relationship because they like the other person, people want a relationship because they can have a partner for the social standing!

the same thing with friends. you don't matter as a person. as long as they can get something from you. everyone wants to find community but no one wants to be the community- that being said, no one wants to try to exhibit behaviors that would make them come across as kinder, more understanding, vulnerable etc. they just take and take and take from the people that do show those traits, and get pissed off when those people finally snap.

i wanted to try and get out of my shell so badly but i keep encountering these people. all they want to do is talk about themselves to me rather than with me. i walk away with all this information while they walk away with surface level details about me. in a way i prefer to not be perceived any deeper than that. but a part of me wishes that they would try more to know me, but it never happens.

i'm tired and done with people. i've been self isolating for months now and after a very exhausting weekend with a person who trauma/emotionally dumped on me for 3 days straight, blaming her mental illness on why she doesn't seem like she is interested in me when she is actively showing up for her friends and leaving when i expressed exhaustion at her for not trying

fuck everyone. i've had people try to convince me out of self isolation but i no longer care.

You don’t need to flex your pool skills on me

Upvotes

I(26F) really enjoy playing pool and I don’t mind playing with myself or others, but admittedly I’m not professionally good at it. It’s just something that I like to have a few beers, maybe some wings and have a good time challenging myself. I’ve played against a few professionals who have smeared the table with me and usually they will see that I’m not at their level, call it a good game and move on.

Not this fucking guy, though. This gentleman approaches me and asks to shoot and I’m like “yeah, sure”. He tells me he’s been playing tournaments for a good few years now, so naturally we get about 2 turns in before he clears the table on me. I got whooped, whatever, but he wants to keep playing with me.

After 3 or 4 games, I kinda just start to get frustrated because I’m barely getting a ball in before he’s already finishing the game. I’m not trying to be a sore loser about it, but we’re at different levels and it’s just not fun for me to sit there and watch a guy clear the table over and over. I approach him and tell him “hey man, I don’t think I’m good competition for you and I think I’m good on playing with you”. He tells me “we’re just having fun, don’t worry about it” and insists we keep shooting together.

Throughout all this, he’s talking about how he’s been playing every other day for 4 years and he knew he was going to be good at this. Told me that I should put my headphones back on and try to lock in to help me. The vibe just felt like he was flexing his pool superiority over me the whole time and it just kinda pissed me off. I couldn’t get him off my table no matter how times I told him that I was good on it, so I ended up just collecting the balls and cutting my time there short that day.

Maybe I’m being a sore loser, but it just seems like a super asshole thing to do. I understand the only way to get better is to play people better than you, but I feel like if I’m respectfully telling you that I don’t want to play you anymore, then go away??? Don’t obligate me to keep playing you.

I’m sick of seeing commercials for prescription medication.

Upvotes

As an American, I’m absolutely flabbergasted that this is not illegal. Is there any person that finds this beneficial? I hate my children being constantly pushed weight loss and depression drugs. The commercials are always built to invoke good feelings and 99% of the time they have nothing to do with the medication. It’s gross to me.

I cannot perceive malicious intent.

Upvotes

Recently, I (25M) have been betrayed by a few people. I do not want to get into specifics as it may reveal my identity, but it resulted in me losing my job.

I know you may have heard this train of thought before, and may assume I'm hiding allegations of sexual assault or something vile but I promise you that's not the case.

I lost my job based on a determination made from half-truths and blatantly false information regarding a harmless activity that everyone in my department does on a weekly basis. An activity they goaded me to engage in whenever it was appropriate.

In hindsight, it should've been obvious to me I was not liked. Most of them were not bad, I liked them. But a few of them saw me as a clown.

Constant underhanded insults, constantly forcing racially provocative conversations with me. Constantly complaining about members of my race. All while I'm trying to maintain a friendship with these people. Keeping my own mouth shut because I didn't want to be ostracized.

Other vile remarks, blatantly saying that they think all Muslims need to be rounded up and executed. And instead of reporting this I thought it was a good idea to just "Explain" to this guy why that's an incredibly vile thing to talk about in a workplace because I didn't want to jeapordize someone else's job simply because we didn't agree on something. I didn't want to be that guy.

Well today I'm jobless, because someone took advantage of my stupid fucking mistake. Not only that, but to go great lengths to fabricate malice on my end, as if the truth of my stupid fucking mistake wasn't enough.

No even given a chance to apply my knowledge or aptitude on the job. Worked so hard for this, literally sacrificed so much of my personal life and time for this opportunity, only to lose it because someone was a tiny bit racist? Because I gave someone the ick? Not even a chance to prove or disprove my ability and keep my pride?

Frankly, I should be pissed at myself for not seeing this coming. For all I love to talk about systemic racism and "Guilty until proven innocent" for black men I was a goddamn fool, and gave them the perfect excuse to throw me away like garbage.

This isn't even the first time something like this has happened to me. This has happened in elementary, in middle school, in a private school, multiple times with my own family, previous jobs. I can never see this coming. I try and I can't see it. Even when it's in my face I can never see it.

It's so hard to even take responsibility for my mistake because what am I taking responsibility for? Obviously guys at work are cackling because they can't look past the immediate pleasure watching a black person suffer gives them.

Some senior folks at work think what I did was stupid but agree it's being utilized in bad faith. A few supervisors feel I just straight up never listen to them and that this is the natural consequence of my attitude even if they think it's excessive.

And my family... They think I'm defective and that God is "Teaching me a lesson". Little do they know, had I not done this to myself, I'd be making over $200k/yr by the end of the decade and would've most likely given back to them. I would be pissing money. Yet is how they act when I'm weakened? This is how they really feel about me? These were the people I planned on wasting chunks of the income I might've had to please? Still shocking to me.

Best case scenario I'm never going to see 6 figures again. I'm too far along life to be making excuses and I need to do something, even if it's joining the military. I never agreed with it, but it's a good place to learn practical skills that I failed to acquire as my parents actively sabatoged all attempts for me to find work as far back as 2019. Perhaps wash away the student loan debt I acrueed on whatever degree daddy told me to pursue, with absolutely no prospects or understand of what I could use it for.

I wont have enough to provide to family anymore. That's for sure. Whatever it is, and whatever the intent was, it's my mistake and I need to fix this for myself

If anyone reading this has an idea of who I am, I'm just trying to get this off my chest. Please don't bother or address me on this.

Why does everything need so much protein— where's the FIBER?

Upvotes

The protein craze right now is insane. Everywhere I look— protein. Oh, look. An ice cream recipe! With cottage cheese. Oh oh, chia pudding! With protein powder. A granola bar. With a pile of... chickpeas, soy something something... that taste nothing like what it's advertised to be.

Ok ok, maybe I feel a little left out because the protein craze doesn't sit right with my stomach. Protein powders and bars always make me feel really heavy and bloated. If something doesn't naturally have the protein, like candy or bread— why not just incorporate more real food that does?

But more importantly, I'm surprised there isn't a fiber craze considering the current rise in cases of colon cancer, especially in young adults. We need more fiber! I want to see more recipes focusing on gut health, not just increasing protein intake. I'm not saying more fiber will 100% fix the colon cancer crisis, unfortunately, but it can help a lot. Why don't we hear more about it? Maybe my fyp is skewed...

Dating sites are annoying the hell out of me

Upvotes

I've recently tried visiting some dating sites and signing up to them, because well I want to meet people to love as I'm unlucky in that department. But I hate them. Every one I try, a lot of features that should be essential are behind a pay wall.

This annoys me even more because like if it's a dating site, you're supposed to find someone, right? Why would you need the app/use the site for more than a few months at most? It makes absolutely no sense! And there are BARELY any dating sites that don't do this. You can't see who likes or views your profile. I'm not going to pay £25 a month for that when I'll delete it soon. It just tells me that the site panders to people who are terrible at relationships, which is the entire reason I want to keep doing one. Were dating sites always like this? I'm interested to find out (and to find sites that don't do this, but that's not what this post is about).
