I've been watching some Youtube videos and they all seem to say the same thing and that is most people focus on the QB and follow the ball until the end of the play. In their opinion, there's nothing wrong with this but they feel you miss the nuance of the game.

I watched an old game using these Youtubers recommendations and watched the offensive/defensive lines, watched the match ups between the receivers and defenders, but this doesn't seem like a reasonable way to watch a game. On average, an NFL QB has the ball for roughly 3 seconds between snap and pass. That's not nearly enough time to focus on all the other match ups on the field before returning to the QB.

I was wondering, how do people on NFL Noobs really watch each play in the game?

AFL did better attendance figures than Triple A baseball, which is a good metric. but I do understand a football team has more finances especially w/ insurance since it’s a high contact sport. I know baseball does draw ahigher percentage of revenue from fans in seats. As well as the MLB using Triple A as a feeder system (but plz explain the exact economics I’m all ears)

btw I’m ALL for players making more since the previous $30k max was rough, imagine less than minimum wage playing the game.

This isn’t a question so I hope the mods will forgive me. My boyfriend has been teaching me NFL football for the past few months. He played junior and college ball in Canada but knows NFL up and down. This sub is so fun to confirm my new knowledge of this amazing game. I am a convert to NFL football and this sub is a big reason on why. Anyone else feel the same?

This might be a dumb question but I still don't really get this

Sometimes a team is down late in the game and instead of throwing every play they will run the ball and let the clock keep going.

I get that you don't want an incomplete pass, but wouldn't you basically always want to stop the clock when you're behind?

Is there something i'm missing about timeouts, field position or how the clock works?

I'm a defender. I'm lined up against a wide receiver / tight end. The play begins, the quarterback gets the ball. I know I'm allowed to hit / "check" a receiver to slow them down. But how hard can I hit him? Can I just full on blast him as hard as I can and knock them down? Or is there some limit I'm not allowed to go beyond?

Why doesn’t everyone just have one receiver on the numbers during a fg attempt just to cause chaos? You could run him in motion to threaten a jet sweep too! Is there a rule against it or is just too hard chemistry wise?

Why hasn't the NCAA adopted the new (well, recent) NFL kickoff format? Whether you think it's a better format or not, let's face it. NCAA basically runs the he farm teams for NFL and the players should learn how to do it.

How much can a game be flexed (time only? days earlier/later?) Planning a trip to MO for 12/20-12/31. I'm trying to decide between a couple of Chiefs games in Kansas City that might get flexed (Monday 12/21 v Patriots @ 7:15pm or Sunday 12/27 v 49ers @ 3:25pm.) Any advice on which game to pick or if I should just wait to buy? Thanks!

Like the Jets, Titans, Browns, etc. What expectation do they/the fans go into the next season with? Playoff/Super Bowl? I know that’s always the hope of course but realistically are they just hoping for a better season with a playoff trajectory in the future?

So in light of the clippers news this thought came to me. Teams trade future draft picks all the time for current players. So what happens if draft picks get stripped of a deal that already happened. I'm a patriots fan so i know that its possible in the nfl for draft picks to be stripped so what would have happened if we already traded it for a current player?

When I was very small kid playing flag football on unmarked fields, a common route would be "5 & in", which in our case was 5 steps. Is this the way it's done in the NFL as well? I would imagine the variance between receivers + precision importance when it comes to specific yardage playcalls that it may need to be more specific. But doing the math before the play and while running seems way complicated. Or finally is it just by feel, ie synergy built between QB/receiver to know what if should look/feel like?

I understand that we haven't seen this iteration of the Rams take a snap yet, but on paper, they're going to be lethal. Given the salary cap and how good they were last year, while still making a hypothetically huge improvement, how did they get here? I know they got super lucky with drafting a hidden talent in Puka Nacua, but every other roster move they've made recently that led up to this seems standard. Even the Myles Garrett trade, it's not like they underpaid to get him. Maybe a Rams fan can break this down for us?

I know this is kinda random and if this question isn’t allowed let me know and I will remove the post but why was jahan dotson a first round pick? Did the commanders reach for him when he was drafted? He had one 1000 yard season and that was in college otherwise his stats are very middling. Why was he taken so high and why does he continue to have middling stats? I will admit I don’t watch a ton of film, is he a blocking WR?

Why does draft status carry so much weight in roster cuts?

Let's say there are two players vying for the 6th wide receiver spot. One is a UDFA from this year (Jerry Potatoes) and one is a 3rd round pick from last year (Randy Lichen).

The UDFA, Jerry, has been impressive in camp and in all preseason games, including work with the first team offense. The 3rd rounder, Randy, had 3 targets in total last year, with no receptions, and has been less impressive and generally had a quiet camp. It's not the difference between a clear 1st-ballot hall of famer and perennial practice squad, but Jerry still seems to have performed better.

I keep hearing analysts saying Randy will make the team because he's a 3rd-round draft pick, as if that speaks for itself.

Assuming that there are no other factors (no behind the scenes stuff the public doesn't see, no big future financial obligations), why would Randy having been a draft pick make him more likely to make the team than Jerry? Don't teams want the best players on the field, above all else?

Is it mainly because the team doesn't want to appear to have been wrong about the draft pick? Or is there indeed some major financial obligation that would make it be prohibitively consequential to waive Randy rather than UDFA Jerry? Or are all the analysts just telling a story that isn't true?

I have seen draft picks waived (e.g. Justin Joly this year), but I keep hearing the "they kept him likely due to draft status" story out there in one form or another.

I'm in the UK but 'get' US sports. I closely follow MLB and NHL, so I'm familiar with US sports terminology and drafts, trading etc, but I really struggle to get into NFL.

I think the biggest thing I struggle with, is that it quickly becomes apparent just how complex the game is tactically - it is very much a brutal chess match.

I'd be interested in know if people generally have a good understanding of the different plays, routes, set-ups etc, because I feel without having that knowledge, you don't actually know what you're watching and it's just a series of short bursts of players running into each other.

Without having that deeper knowledge, I really struggle to appreciate the appeal of the sport. (Fwiw as a person, I struggle to like something unless I really understand and get into it, so it might just be my personality!)
