Advice ☎️ Alibaba China seller asking me to return defective product and under-declare value. Help

Upvotes

(originally posted on r/Malaysia. Thank you to the few who replied so quickly, before that post got removed.)

I the buyer am in Malaysia. The seller is in China.

The USD 2000 item that the seller sent me has a defect.

I bring this up to the seller and they agree it was their fault.

The seller's external website writes that manufacturing defects are insured under warranty for one year, and if claims are made under 1 month of product receipt, shipping costs in and out are on them.

I claim warranty. They seem to agree to honour it.

The seller is now asking me to send the item to China under a much lower declared value.

I say no, that's illegal. Let's ship under "warranty repairs/replacement" so that taxes and duties are not levied when you receive the item under that category in China.

The seller replied that if I declare the original price, they may not be able to clear customs, and the goods will be returned at that time.

After checking with their higher ups, the rep now insist that I under-declare the value or they won't be able to honour the warranty.

Why would they say that? What should I do?

If I insist that they be the ones to create and prepay the waybill for me, does that absolve me of any customs/legal responsibility?

I'm aware that Alibaba has no real buyer protection. I paid with a Msian credit card. Should I threaten the seller with a credit card chargeback on grounds that they're trying to make me complicit in committing customs fraud as well as not honouring their warranty?

Are there any less nuclear options?

All correspondence has been on Alibaba.

Sorry, I can't ask the Alibaba subreddit because my account is new.

Mildly Menarik Female dwarf snakehead seen in a stream in Negeri Sembilan

Channa limbata, haruan kedak aka dwarf snakehead

Named due to their small adult size of 10-15 cm. Males have bright blue and red fins. A small predatory fish native to all of Malaysia.

They are adaptable, but prefer foothill streams and waterfalls. They have even be found high up in the mountains, which they reach by swimming and jumping.

I saw both the fish and the plants while fishing at a rapid in northern Negeri Sembilan. I was visiting my friend nearby there and thought I’d take a look at what this tributary of the Pahang River holds.

Ask Malaysians Where’s the best place to sell vintage clothes?

Upvotes

Hi all! I’m wondering where’s the best place to sell vintage / pre-loved clothes online? IG, Carousell, FB marketplace? I’m looking to sell my vintage brand clothing (e.g. skirt, dress, top) and not pre-loved fast fashion.

Also not looking to build a brand, I just wanna clear out some of my collection.

Thanks in advance!

Advice ☎️ Need advice bosskusssssss

Upvotes

Hi fellow Malaysians,

On May 2026, a random lady transferred RM1000 to my brand new "A" Bank Saving account. My thought was this is to scam asking to transfer back the money to another account. So I kept this account untouched for sometime.

June 2026, "A" bank home branch contacted me to proceed with the transfer of RM1000 fund back to this mysterious lady and I proceeded with the transfer process, but in return they closed down my account. I was like "What did I do ? I complied with all your request to transfer back", and their answer was sorry sir, this is decision from HQ and we cannot do anything. I was okay with the closure as this account was created just to track my CC application initially.

Moving to July 2026, I received a call from IPD XXX stating this mysterious lady has lodged a police report against me, so I explained the whole story to her, and she was like "Okok encik, kalau apa2 saya call balik ye"

August 2026, this where it starts,

  1. Bank "U" sent a letter stating with recent risk assessment they had to close down my CC account.
  2. Bank "M" stated they will be closing down some of my accounts, not the main saving account yet.

Sept 2026

  1. Bank "C" closed my account and no notice was sent, and I eventually received the letter today with same message "Risk Assessment bla bla bla". I'm an IT employee and this is my salary account.
  2. Bank "M" again, sent a letter but this time it's my main saving account which I had with them for more than 7 years.

I was worried that this will f-up my other bank accounts too so I went to a smaller local Bank "B" to check my account opening eligibility, the outcome was I'm not fitting the criteria to open any bank accounts with any bank "Encik tlg check dgn IPD mana2 Jenayah Komersial"

I proceed visiting the nearest IPD, to my surprise this lady lodged the report that she was scammed by some random guy where she can bank in X amount and can get back XX amount. So the scammer gave 3 account number (One of it is my "Bank A" saving account which I have no idea why a scammer would give a totally new account number).

So this CLOSED Bank "A" account is now flagged as MULE ACCOUNT by PDRM. When one of your account is flagged by MULE, your other accounts are f-ed as well.

Now I'm worried that this will impact my remaining bank accounts which I will be using for my Salary and also my loans to be terminated and required to be settled immediately.

I need suggestions from real world experience for those who have faced this before.

Thanks....

Rant i thought i was scared of moving, turns out im scared of how he’ll treat me once i do

Upvotes

my boyfriend (M26) recently started talking seriously about buying a house in penang because he works there and has been living there alone for about a year, and that somehow led to him asking me (F23) all these questions about my future.

like how do u spend ur life in 2 years, how’s ur career gonna be, what kind of woman do u wanna be, can u live in penang like me? and i get it, i really do. if he’s thinking about marriage, obviously he needs to know whether our lives can actually fit together.

but after thinking about it, i realized what bothers me is that he’s asking me so much about what i’m going to have to change or give up, but has he actually wondered what i’m giving up for him? because if i move to penang, i’m jauh from my family. my family is literally my safety net and i’m extremely close to them.

in kl i have my mum, my family, my friends, people i know. in penang i basically have nobody. he would be the closest person i have there, literally the only person i could call family in that place. and i’m not saying this because i want a house or money or some fancy life. i genuinely don’t care about that. i’m asking what he gives me emotionally in return. can he love me properly enough that i feel safe and secure with him the way i feel safe with my family? can i trust that if i leave my family and build a new life with him, he’ll actually feel like home too?

because yes, i can learn to be independent. i can find a job, make friends, learn to live alone, manage money, build my own routine, all of that. but i don’t want to just survive in penang. i want to feel safe there. and when i ask him about these things, he says they’re non-issues, fixable, doable. and that honestly frustrates me because i’m not asking whether they’re doable.

i’m asking whether he’ll actually do the things that make me feel secure. if it’s all fixable, why not start fixing it now? why wait until i’m married and already far from my family before we figure out whether he can actually love me in the way i need?

we’ve been together for 5 years and he has only met my mum once. five years. and now we supposedly have around 2 years before marriage and i keep thinking, how exactly is he planning to make up to my family in that short amount of time? because he has talked shit about my family before, he has done me wrong, and my whole ass family knows about it.

they don’t even know we got back together because i literally have to hide him from them. i already know they’d be mad as fuck if they found out. so when he says “we still have 2 years,” i’m like… is 2 years actually enough? enough for what happened between him and my family to be repaired? enough for them to trust him again? enough for him to show them that he actually changed?

because my family’s idea of relationships is completely different from his. his mindset is basically “the only time my girl meets my family is when she’s gonna get married.” meanwhile my family doesn’t see it that way at all. they don’t care about relationship history or whether i make friends with males, they care about safety. they want to know who i’m with, who my friends are, where i am, whether i’m okay.

and all these years we’ve mostly done things his way because i kept agreeing and adapting. now he’s asking me to fit into his future, his city, his lifestyle, his timeline, and i’m thinking… okay, but now u only have 2 years to learn how to do things my way too.

not because i want to control him, but because if i’m going to become his wife, my family doesn’t magically stop being part of me just because i move states. i’m not asking him to buy me anything. i’m not asking him to make my life luxurious. i’m asking him to make me feel like i’m not making the biggest sacrifice of my life for someone who still sees my fears as “non-issues.”

i can learn to live in penang. i can learn to be independent. i can build a career. i can figure my life out. but how am i supposed to trust that the man i’m doing all of this for will actually become a safe place for me too? because i don’t need him to promise me he’ll love me perfectly forever. i just need him to show me now that when life gets hard, he’ll care enough to make me feel safe instead of telling me “we can fix it later.”

and honestly… i poured my heart out about all of this and i don’t even know if i’m asking for too much or if i’m just finally realizing that moving away from my family for someone is a MUCH bigger sacrifice than he seems to understand.

Ask Malaysians to nailtechs.. is it worth the risk to start doing home nail salon..?

Upvotes

DEAR NAILTECHS.. help me out pls.. 🙏🏻

hi guys, would like to ask for ur advices...

im a single mom, currently quite desperate in finding an extra income to raise my child alone, since my main job salary is barely enough if we stick to only eating tofu and cabagges at home for the whole month..

i just want to ask for advice, is doing home nail salon only by appt, worth the risk?

the reason i said risk is bcz, i love nail arts, but never actually had the opportunity to do it, and with my current situation, im scared i might not be able to afford to fail.

i am staying in johor, and is currently working on office hours, renting my own apt as well. im unable to afford sending my child for school in my current situation, and can only teach him whenever i can at home, or let him do practice book at the nanny's house when im working.

im not yet able to secure a job in sg, if anyone's asking. not sure why but ive been applying to few places, and the cost of going there for interviews alone already eating my pocket, that im not dare to go again for now.

so dear nailtechs.. is there any advice? please.. help me out.. 🙏🏻

ive been trying to find extra jobs i can do to at least save some fund and afford to at least give me son proper education and full healthy meals without worrying about the cost

Recently, a female black cat, around 5 months old I assume has been roaming around the outside of my home for a while now. Unfortunately, I can't take her in since I already own three cats of my own.

She's seems to be healthy and very energetic! And pregnant to, so it would appreciate it if a more experienced cat owner take her in..!!

Ask Malaysians Shopee vouchers Shadowbanned

Upvotes

Anyone else kena this experience where you suddenly get shadowbanned from using shopee vouchers? This happened to me after i decided to cancel an order last month cuz i found it cheaper elsewhere I think.

After like 2 weeks trying to wade thru their nonsense customer support infra finally get back response and its like "our system has identified certain account or purchase patterns that do not fully align with shopee's policies." blablabla "for security reasons we are unable to disclose details of the evaluation". Anyone successfully recovered from this?

Not trying to say I'm 100% entitled to be correct just really curious about if anyone was able to recover their voucher function or is this SOL because shopee ai flagged me.

Ask Malaysians Advice on home insurance for an old house

Upvotes

Thinking about getting home insurance. Some friends say better to have, others say not necessary because its a waste of money as youll rarely claim it also.

Im mainly thinking of getting it because im concerned about fire, floods, and if there is any other mishaps, esp for an old house. Does it make sense to get home insurance in malaysia for an old house? If yes, what insurance companies are the best for home insurance in terms of coverage and ease of handling claims.

Background: My house is 38 years old and completely paid off.

Discussion So what if you’re the one who messed up? what can you do?

Upvotes

Im in a position where i f up badly.

i do other girl while in relation and things comes to light. i did it out of the urges of lust. i can’t control my impulses well. had history of doing it before and tried my best to let the past fade but i relapse.

now, all i want is to make sure she (my girl) heal from what happened no matter the cost.

i didn’t deserve to be with her, i know. but i can’t sit knowing she’s hurting. i didn’t do it out of feelings but rather pleasure.

im extremely disgusted and disappointed with myself.

any advice would be acceptable.

at this point kms seems like a good option. note to the reader, i fked up most of my life.

being kufur nikmat since she’s the type of girl a man would pray day and night for.

not just i feels like a bad partner, a bad individual but most importantly, a bad servant to Him.

i was once in her position. now i do what i kena. not because she’s less of a woman. but felt to the temptation of lust.

Ask Malaysians What time do you usually arrive home from work?

Upvotes

I saw this thing being discussed recently on YT. Asking what is your 5 to 9 after your usual work routine from 9 to 5?

So it got me curious specially what time do we actually get home to start doing whatever it is we want to pursue personally from 5 to 9.

I typically reach home at 7pm after travelling around 50km from my work place.

From 7 to 11 I typically do everyday chores and continue my gym pursuits with my small home gym, that and gaming on my pc.

So what's yours?

Advice ☎️ Are These Valid Reasons for Wanting to Move Out?

Upvotes

Maybe it's just quarter-life crisis hitting as I turn 30 this year. But moving out has been on my mind lately more than ever.

I guess it is more common for people to move out due to their job, move out with siblings or when they get married. Moving out to live close by seems... awkward?

The whole reason I am thinking of moving out is coz I feel like there is less and less space in this house for me. Don't really have a proper and private room to myself despite the house being so big coz of weird house layout and mom claiming a lot of the space.

While I do have a place to put my things, it isn't uncommon to find my things thrown away, missing, re-arranged then broken as a result (things which should be placed in cool places placed near the window, heavy things placed on fragile items).

While I have confronted my mom, she just pleads ignorance or scolds backs "You so poor meh? Go buy again, what's so hard?" Tbf, she does the same to my dad and he has given up saying anything.

Don't have an ability to have my own furniture. I can certainly afford to pay for my own furniture but my parents won't let me put away or throw out their half working old furniture whi h they themselves don't want in their space.

And just because my place is the neatest place in the house, I end up finding things being dumped in there which my parents can't find a place to put it "Your place so big and got space?"

I do pay the utility bills and all of the pet care cost. Have 10+ cats which mom picked up. Once I could afford it, I neutered all of them and bring them for annual vaccinations. I do question if my parents can afford to pay all that if I move out though.

Doesn't help that the house is slowly breaking down. No one flags issues, no one wants to do maintenance work. I offered to pay but then parents said cannot find someone to fix it. I suggested asking neighbours, but then they said it would be too expensive. Not my house so not like I can let people in without their permission.

Still wonder if those are valid reasons to move out.

Tl;dr: Wanting to move out to have a space of my own. Not sure if that is a legit reason to want to move out.

Ask Malaysians Drive from Shah Alam to Puncak Alam for work. How’s the counter-commute traffic?

Upvotes

This is super random, but I’m really curious. I just got a job at one of the factories in Puncak Alam (near UiTM Puncak Alam).

I initially preferred staying in Shah Alam since it has everything and a few of my friends live there, but I’m worried the commute will be hectic. On the other hand, I’m not really a fan of Puncak Alam at night (please don't attack me 🫪😂) because it gets super dark!

For those who know the area, how’s the traffic if I live in Shah Alam and drive to Puncak Alam? Since it's a reverse commute, is it manageable? Or should I just stay in Puncak Alam and suck it up?

Would love to hear your thoughts and advice! Don't kecam me pweaseee 🫪😂😭😆

Mildly Menarik A subtropical freshwater crab only found in Cameron

Post image
Upvotes

Stoliczia chaseni, a rare freshwater species of crab only living in the Jelai watershed of Cameron Highlands.

It lives in clean montane streams with temperatures of 15-18.5°C and shallow clear water. It is semi-terrestrial, but mostly stays underwater under rocks and boulders. Often hiding within crevices.

Little is known about it. They aren’t even kept in captivity. However they breed directly in freshwater, with females carrying fully-developed baby crabs in their pouch.

Ask Malaysians Any Malaysian's experiencing the 'Malaysian Parents' experience?

Upvotes

I’ve been working full-time for 5 months, earning a fresh grad salary plus ~RM300/month from a part-time job. I live in Kajang, full time in Balakong, and part time at Wangsa Maju. Sometimes need to go to part time job right after full time.

Public transport is exhausting, especially the Wangsa Maju trips. I want to buy a second-hand car around RM25k with my own money, but my parents—especially my mom—strongly oppose it.

I don’t understand why. It’s my money, I’m working, and I genuinely need a car for my commute. Why would she rather I keep exhausting myself with public transport and constantly getting sick? Has anyone else gone through this?
