Meta We have added flairs to the sub

Upvotes

Hello everyone, we've added flairs to aiwars in order to help people find and comment on posts they're interested in seeing. Currently they are not being enforced as mandatory, though this may change in the future, depending on how they are received. We would ask that people please start making use of them.

Discussion should be used for posts where you would ideally like to see spirited discussion and debate, or for questions about AI.

News is of course for news in the AI sector. Things like laws being passed, studies being published, notable comments made by a prominent AI developer or political figure.

Meme should ideally be used for single image-based posts which you do not expect to prompt serious discussion. Of course discussion is still welcome under such posts. If you want to use a meme to make a serious point and have additional explanatory text for why you feel strongly about the message being expressed and the type of discussion you'd like to have, that can be categorized as Discussion.

Meta is for discussion about the subreddit itself and other associated AI subreddits or comments.

Use your best judgement as you categorize your posts. Please do not misuse them, they are for everyone's benefit.

Here is why we have two subs - r/DefendingAIArt and r/aiwars

Upvotes

r/DefendingAIArt - A sub where Pro-AI people can speak freely without getting constantly attacked or debated. There are plenty of anti-AI subs. There should be some where pro-AI people can feel safe to speak as well.

r/aiwars - We don't want to stifle debate on the issue. So this sub has been made. You can speak all views freely here, from any side.

If a post you have made on r/DefendingAIArt is getting a lot of debate, cross post it to r/aiwars and invite people to debate here.

Introducing to you, The Flock Sock! This 3D-printable doohickey is easily installed and costs near nothing to make! To install, simply get a stick, attach the little grabber thingy to it, attach the Flock Sock, and slide your Flock Sock over the camera, rendering it effectively useless! No harm, no foul!
De-Flock your neighborhood today!

Is being against ai art just a rich white kid thing? As a person who lives in a developing country, I can confirm there's no sentiment like that here.

Localhost is a standard hostname that means "this computer," and ip6-localhost is an explicit hostname reserved for that same computer using the IPv6 protocol.

How Localhost Works

  • Loopback concept: When you use localhost, your computer's operating system sends network traffic internally through its own network stack instead of sending it out to Wi-Fi or the internet.
  • IPv4 vs. IPv6 mapping: The general name localhost typically resolves to the IPv4 loopback address 127.0.0.1, or the IPv6 loopback address ::1, depending on your system configuration.
  • Developer use: Programmers use localhost to test websites and apps locally on their own machines before launching them online.

What is ip6-localhost?

  • Explicit IPv6: While localhost can point to IPv4 or IPv6 depending on system defaults, ip6-localhost is specifically mapped to the IPv6 loopback address (::1).
  • Configuration: It is defined in your computer's local hosts file to guarantee that name resolution forces an IPv6 loopback connection rather than an IPv4 one.

News Navier-Stokes blow up proof/Millenial prize drama

Upvotes

Looks like there is a collision between academic researchers, OpenAI, and Anthropic (a bit) on Navier-Stokes blow up proof. Rather interesting insight into drama in the mathematics research community due to the rapid advancement of AI and other competing interests,

Stop giving people false hope

Upvotes

I'll try to make it short because i suck at writing.

I'm an SWE with over a decade of experience. The kind of an swe who started tinkering with basic on their ZX spectrum clones as kids (not that old, we had spectrum clones still kicking for a long time in the ex-USSR, and i had one of the last ones). I love coding. I think it's absolutely an art form, no less so than any other.

That said, it absolutely infuriates me when people online say programming isn't dead. That no one can replace an experienced programmer. Or that programming moved to some "upper level" and now your experience is valuable in the sense that you must oversee coding agents. Whatever.

I hate seeing young people being steered down a dead career path. Yes, coding agents still need oversight by an experienced dev. Except they need less of it with every passing month. I wouldn't trust an AI to develop a simple web page two years ago. I laughed at AI-generated mess a year ago. I rejected AI-generated PRs fairly quickly 6 months ago. Today, i'm not even sure why i'm needed - clearly i AM still needed, but my expertise is mostly just being human (there's things AI don't understand and will probably never understand) with some little architectural oversight.

I'm a pro-AI person. But it doesn't stop me from recognizing that we're already at a point where people are losing their jobs at accelerating rate. And if you really care about people, be you pro or anti, you should really stop all the cope. You aren't doing anyone any good by claiming swe is not a dead end career. Stop giving people false ideas which may make them homeless in a few years just to make a point that AI aren't ackshuallllly intelligent. Because nobody cares. They can do this specific job very well, and are improving rapidly. No other technology improved this fast. Maybe there's a limit to LLMs, hard or soft, but i don't see why we won't have a new better architecture in a few years. Maybe 10 years. Or 15 years. And if you're a young man or woman who chose software engineer as your career today, and survived the decade that follows, you'll still end up without without income when that happens.

That's it. That's the whole rant.

Discussion This is what pushed me towards more of a Pro-AI side. So often I see Anti-AI people jumping straight to extreme claims.

The original post shows an older ChatGPT model getting a riddle wrong, with a title mocking people who claim AI is the future.

One response was nothing more than someone (not me) plugging the riddle into a current model and it getting the riddle correct. (The man is looking at a painting of his own son.)

What's the OP's response? "defending WATER-POISONING corporations". And the Anti derived this corporation defending from...what, exactly? It's nothing but a screenshot of a prompt and response. Yet immediately they go straight to the offense instead of any sort measured response.

Now none of this particular interaction involved me. But that sort of thing has happened to me before. For me, it really started when I posted in a work-related sub about how Copilot keys had been removed from our display laptops. Because I dared to call the act vandalism (which, by definition, it is, even if minor in scope), I got all sorts of responses attacking me. Most of those were similar to the one I am sharing, calling me some corporate defender. Normally, "look at what customers damaged" goes well on the sub, but because it had something related to the subject of AI, out came the swords and daggers.

Sometimes I just have to distance myself from the sheer toxicity.

3 weeks ago, Chinese courts ruled that companies cannot legally fire employees or force pay cuts just because artificial intelligence (AI) takes over their jobs.

Problem solved, Antis can be happy now. We can just copy China model to the rest of the world.

Discussion Thoughts on Ai Replacing CEOs?

Post image
Upvotes

“A group of software engineers who say they were fired by their bosses because of AI are giving their former employers a taste of their own medicine.
With the powers of spite and friendship, they’ve built “OpenExecutive,” an AI system designed to do the work of a CEO, if not the entire c-suite.”

CEOs at top U.S. companies earn an average of 281 times more than a typical worker. If anyone should be replaced to save money, shouldn’t it be the CEOs?

If Ai threatens the job of the Top Executives what could this mean? I personally believe Ai should replace everyone.
