Meme Do you hate AI surveillance cameras?

Theoretically, you also want it to cover the solar panels, iirc it only has a 12 hour battery charge or something, since it is rumored to also pick up roaming bluetooth/wi fi signals.
(Funny thing is, even the local cops where I live hate these flock cameras)

Not all cops are pro authoritarian people. Lots are, but not all. Plus these cameras are incorrect so often it just puts extra strain on them

I think you have a very distorted view of cops as humans, especially the more local types, due to the media.
Most of the cops here have many of the same personal issues about them that you and I do (I get to talk to them and overhear them a lot due to work.)

My local cops are great!
Coincidentally, the town doesnt have its own courthouse, so any fines get paid to the city nearby instead.

Even if you take the anti-cop position, the cops do not want cameras around that could potentially document police misconduct.
Police misconduct cost taxpayers billions of dollars each year in fees like court cases and lawsuits, so if there are flock cameras on every single street, then these could be used as evidence.

Cops are human, ACAB is a VERY good talking point but also demonized the legal system for the working point of police.
Cops often or not, do not want their info leaked, which is what Flock does, to a more severe degree.

Maybe in like really specific jobs like mini-fig makers? Specifically because the practicality of it might outweigh any style preferences ppl might have since they're just looking for functional pieces for ttrpg games. But even then I think people still have their preferences between 3D printed vs sculpted with many still prefering sculpted. Otherwise I think sculpting is visually distinct enough from 3D prints that it still retains most if not all of its marketshare of people looking to buy decorations that it had previously, especially if they're looking for something more rustic/antique/handmade looking. And, if you want to get really technical with it, sculpting in blender doesn't disqualify you from being considered a sculptor either. It's literally a position you can get hired for at film studios since being able to sculpt in 3D software is a skill seperate from being able to model in the software in general. I've been using blender for 6+ years making some great models, and still don't know how to sculpt very well in the "sculpt mode" because my sculpting skills just aren't that great lol.

how? 3D printers are mostly marketed to people who wnat to build, sure. but its a different ballgame than traditional sculpting (out of marble/clay) and even then its not perfect. some people just like sculpted stuff more

I'm not generally a proponent of stuff like this but, if we want public surveillance, it should go through the normal democratic process, not through a weird backdoor pried open secretly through local-level political corruption. In the absence of public debate and approval, it's essentially a hostile invasion by a private company.

As a NON-American, I don't understand the hatred for these things?
They're out on the public roads, they are used for evidence and if people are not doing anything illegal, the data is discarded?
I'm sure I'm very ignorant, but I hear about the crime rate, drug problems and kids disappearing all the time in America - I thought these would be a blessing?
It's not like it is going through a person's browsing history - I understand the leadership is a bit of a twat but what is he personally going to do with millions of pictures of people walking and driving around?

With them, I can punch in your name and find out where you are right now, and everywhere you’ve been since they were installed in your area
They also have extremely poor/nonexistent security, a prominent YouTuber was able to film himself on one, then go get that footage to post on his channel.
On top of that, they work with other surveillance companies, like say one used by a gym. And officials and flock employees have logged hours watching kids at city rec centers during swim meets.
They’ve also been used by at least one police department for targeted harassment against a guy who posted a video of a traffic stop.
But yeah, it’s just cameras, nbd.

I am in a country where there are mass shootings, mass hijackings and mass thefts - we already have these systems anyway, sponsored by the security companies. They can trace which direction a vehicle goes, where a thief runs to, etc.
I am certain they can use it for other malicious reasons, but to treat the actual cause of its existence and have success must count for something?
Not saying yanks should get/have them, just wanted to understand if I'm wrong and crime isn't as bad in America as we hear overseas?

I am not in America either, so I can't speak to their crime rate, but I can say something about their rampant corruption in their politicians and companies. Also, given what we have heard of ICE and the
government sanctioned kidnappingsdeportations, and how easily this lets people be targeted, there's no high hopes at all.•

The amount of crime in America comes down to where you live. It varies wildly by city. Where I live, the only crime anyone can remember in the area is someone once stabbed an inflatable Halloween yard prop.
But we were doing just fine without ai powered mass surveillance.
And police have been committing crimes with ai powered mass surveillance.
So it balance out, and I’d rather not have the surveillance.

Counts as tampering which falls under vandalism in many states. Don’t do it. Selling it could land you in legal trouble (not a lawyer though)
Chances are a flock camera somewhere else saw you do it anyway

Nah, flock cams are just traffic cams, it's a nothing burger and Europe has been using traffic cameras for ages. Although I'm not American so maybe their weird culture will be against traffic cameras.

Flock cameras are not traffic cams.
They are AI powered cameras that read and record license plates (and according to some reports also pick up identifying signals from phones, recording those in conjunction with said license plates), enabling quick and easy access for law enforcement to track individuals anywhere they go within Flock's reach.
So far it has been used to commit more crimes than it has been used to stop. (A disturbing amount of law enforcement officers have used it to track their exes or current partners.)
