Live Stream Rensselaer County

The monthly Public Forum allows residents to address the council and the public on issues affecting themselves and their community. It can be addressing a shortcoming in infrastructure or recognizing a neighbor who has gone above and beyond in contributing to the common good. At the last forum three mothers who lost children to Kratom spoke. This is what the majority in the legislature wants to keep from us. We want access to all of it. Join us at the Legislatures Regular meeting on Tuesday, September 8, and email you legislator and tell to include Public Forums in the online streams.

Forest Therapy/ Forest bathing

Upvotes

Hi friends! I've been feeling a pull to learn about different types of therapies that are a bit out of the box and in my search, I found forest therapy. Looks like to get certified, I would need some other sort of license and the forest therapy would be a supplement, basically.

Would anyone possibly know how to get started towards this path with minimal school (I struggle with school)

OR would anyone be interested in getting a group together and just do our own forest therapy?

Does anyone know what the POSTED speed limit is, my car said 30 but ik sometimes the dashboard is wrong 💀 I also know that you should aim to be 5-3 miles under the speed limit on the test. Thanks for any help 🥰

Meetings and Events Week of Sep 7-13--Proposed livestreaming legislation gutted at County Leg--19.9% increase in library tax levy and more (1.5 min read)

Post image
Upvotes
  • Rensselaer County Legislature
  • Troy Public Library Budget/Election/Board Meetings Osgood Neighborhood Meeting
  • Land Bank Acquisition/Finance/Executive Committees

Monday, September 7

8:30 AM- Troy Community Land Bank Acquisition and Disposition (A&D) Committee- TCLB Offices (871 River St, Suite 101)

The Troy Community Land Bank A&D Committee will meet to discuss and recommend the purchase of various City-owned properties through the foreclosure auction scheduled September 23. Recommendations will be forwarded through the TCLB’s Finance and Executive committees, scheduled to meet later in the week, before being voted on by the full board during their monthly meeting on September 14.

While it is certainly odd for a public body to meet on a federal holiday, there is no statutory requirement preventing such a gathering.

Agendas (when published) as well as minutes of prior TCLB meetings can be found here when  available. TCLB livestreams and recordings of meetings can be found on the TCLB Youtube channel.

Tuesday, September 8

5:00 pm/6:00 pm Troy Public Library Finance Committee/Board of Directors-Main Branch (100 Second St.)

The TPL Board will be holding its Finance and Regular meetings beginning at 5 pm. While agendas have not yet been published for either meeting, the upcoming election and budget vote on Tues Sep 22 (more on this below) no doubt loom large on the minds of board members.

An agenda (when published), as well as Zoom links for remote participation and minutes of previous meetings, can be found on the Board page of the TPL website.

6:00 PM - Rensselaer County Legislature Regular Meeting, 99 Troy Road, East Greenbush

While much has been made lately of the news that County Executive Steve McLaughlin and Sheriff Kyle Bourgault have refused to comply with recently passed state law restricting local law enforcement from participating in ICE’s 287g program, that conflict will no doubt exhaust itself in a courtroom, and is not expected to be a subject for discussion at this month’s legislative meeting.

Having said that, there are at least two items on the legislature’s agenda of interest to the general public

  • T-4, a proposed local law preventing the use or sale of Kratom is Rensselaer County, mirrors similar efforts in Albany and Saratoga counties;
  • P/359/26 would authorize livestreaming and remote public participation for Regular meetings of the County Legislature. Notably, this legislation has been amended significantly since its introduction in the Local Government Committee last week (see packet), when the legislation which included livestreaming of committee meetings (where most of the discussion on proposed legislation takes place) and public forums, as well as a named vendor and specific start date were largely gutted by the Republican-dominated committee.

6:00 PM - Osgood Neighborhood Meeting (Troy Area United Ministries, 392 Second St)

The Osgood Neighborhood Group will hold their monthly meeting at TAUM, and specific topics of discussion will likely be shared with the Osgood Neighborhood Group on the day of the meeting, though updates from District 6 Councilmember Greg Campbell-Cohen and Community Police officers seem likely agenda items.

Wednesday, September 9

6:00 PM - Troy City School District Board Meeting, Troy Middle School, 1976 Burdett Ave.

The TCSD School Board will hold their first meeting after the return of students for the 2026-7 school year. Agendas, as well as minutes and recordings of previous meetings, can be found here when available.

7:00 PM - Library Election/Budget Presentation (1 of 2) Main Branch, 100 Second St

The Troy Library Interim Director and board members will present their proposed 2027 budget, which will reportedly include a roughly 19.9% increase to the library tax levy, at two information sessions this week, which will also include speaking slots for Evelyn Greenstein, the returning board member and only published candidate for the three open slots on the ballot, as well as an opportunity for those with the intention of conducting a write-in campaign to introduce themselves.

For more information, please visit the Troy Public Library website.

Thursday, September 10

7:00 PM Library Election/Budget Presentation (2 of 2) Lansingburgh Branch, 27 114th St)

See above re: budget/candidate presentations

Friday September 11

8:00 AM/8:30 AM - Land Bank Finance/Executive Committee Meeting- TCLB offices, 871 River St.

While no agenda for the TCLB finance or executive committee meetings has yet been published, action on the recommendation of Monday’s A&D Committee regarding the possible acquisition of City-owned foreclosure properties will likely be the main topic of conversation.
Agendas (when published) as well as minutes of prior TCLB meetings can be found here when  available. TCLB livestreams and recordings of meetings can be found on the TCLB Youtube channel.

Army vet turned personal trainer here, happy to answer beginner questions / give free form checks

Upvotes

Hey all, I spent time in the Army before getting into fitness full time. After I got out, I became a certified trainer (ISSA + UHP) and now coach out of the Troy/Latham area. I’ve also competed in a few natural bodybuilding shows.

My whole focus these days is working with complete beginners, the people who feel intimidated walking into a gym, don’t know where to start, or are scared of “looking dumb” doing an exercise wrong. As well as intermediate/advanced who are looking for proper programming to excel further. I remember what being a beginner felt like, and it’s honestly my favorite type of client to work with.

Figured I’d open this up to the community:

• If you’ve got a beginner question (where to start, how to structure a week, nutrition basics, whatever), drop it below or dm me and I’ll answer.

• If you’re local and want a quick form check on something you’re unsure about, happy to give pointers, just send me a dm!

Not trying to sell anything here, just trying to be useful, I know a lot of people put off starting because they don’t want to feel judged, and that’s the exact thing I try to fix for my clients.

(For context if it comes up: I train out of Troy and Latham. Feel free to direct message me for my social media).

Cellular Providers

Upvotes

I’ve been a Verizon customer for probably close to 25 years, but it seems like their coverage and quality of signal has been continuously diminishing. Are other providers better in the Troy/Wynantskill area? I’m thinking of trying the 30 day trial of AT&T. Anything else I should try? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Animal Sighting in Lansingburgh

Has anybody heard anything about an albino skunk around Lansingburgh? Last night my porch camera picked up an animal that looked like it had the body of a ferret but the tail of a skunk and it was all white.

Surge in homeless people and panhandlers?

Upvotes

Anyone notice a recent surge in homelessness and panhandling going on in the last 2 weeks or so? Just had a guy follow me for 3 blocks asking for a dollar. Mainly talking about the stretch on 4th st between Ferry and State.

I’ve lived here for 5 years I’ve never seen it this bad before. For the past few weeks it’s literally every time i go out, multiple people keep coming up to me, and man are they aggressive, not like before.

Has anyone else noticed this? Did something happen like the shelter shut down?

CDTA almost t-boned my car...

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Above is my dash cam record of the CDTA bus that happily drove through a red light at ~40mph last Tuesday night (about 6:15pm) nearly causing an accident at the intersection of Morrison Ave and Vandenburgh Ave (Route 4) -- right across from Taco Bell near HVCC.

  • at 1:08 you can see that the crossing traffic has a yellow light
  • at 1:12 both directions have a red light lit, just as a silver SUV runs the red light (normal and somewhat expected -- they beat our green light at least)
  • at 1:14 (not pictured), we got a green light.
  • at 1:16, you can just make out the front of the "professionally driven" CDTA bus entering the frame. The truck to my left had started to go and slammed on his brakes. Good thing I noticed, as I also stopped quickly just in time to avoid being t-boned (audio from the dash cam reveals my surprise and some cuss words for that bus driver)
  • at 1:19, CDTA Bus 4185/224 is seen crossing directly in front of my car, SEVEN FULL SECONDS after her traffic signal turned red -- the yellow light in her lane had lit up 11 seconds earlier...

I filed a formal complaint with the CDTA, they were supposed to call me back with a followup report after they investigated, I haven't heard from them, so here is the name and shame. I've seen rediculous behavior on my commute, but this was one of the more egregious ones done by a "professional paid driver".

Be careful out there...

Canvassing Training

Post image
Upvotes

We need to change the direction this country is going. And to make that happen we have to act locally. Going door to door to speak to voters, listening to their viewpoints and encouraging them to get out the polls is a proven motivator. You can be an important part of that effort. Canvassing is not hard. Once you knock on a couple doors it will come naturally. You do not go out alone, you will be part of a team. Join us on September 10 to learn some tips to take with you on the campaign trail this year.

Not a troll post: Is Troy boring?

Upvotes

I’m thinking about moving from Austin Texas, the home of Joe Rogan, Elon Musk, Alex Jones, Ken Paxton, Greg Abbott, the largest open air drug market in Texas, harm reduction with very limited money for treatment, homeless camps, 108 degree weather, limited arts funding, limited funding for social services, a lot of sexism, racism, limited healthcare, limited women’s rights, and really bad traffic.

It’s way too interesting in a lot of bad ways. Is Troy boring, comparatively? Is that bad?

Body composition coaching

Upvotes

Hi!

I’m seeking a personal trainer to help me with my fitness journey. I’m hoping to find someone to help me build macro counts appropriate for my goals (build muscle) and activity level. I’ve gotten recommendations all over the map from apps, website, etc.

I do functional strength training 5-7x a week and walk a minimum of 8-10 miles a day (between work and additional walking/during my workout). I want to add “cosmetic” weight lifting to add definition and muscle.
I am a woman in my early 30’s and I started this journey recently.

Thanks!

Feds in Troy near Joseph's House on Ferry st.

Upvotes

About 7 minutes ago (1:05) right outside of the homeless shelter.

I only got a quick glimpse as I drove by. They were not wearing masks and I think that their camo vests said FBI on them so they might not be ICE. That said, I cannot be sure as their car was partially blocking one of the lanes so I was mostly focused on driving.
