I was so shocked to see this today. Had been seeing him every day for the past 4 years. May his soul rest in peace. He was always outside the corner store between 15th st and Hutton st

Tech Dump Raiding: Keep it Neat

Post image
Upvotes

As a general tip: the ability to raid the tech dumps is not guaranteed, and can be taken away if the powers-that-be get sufficiently annoyed.

And the custodial staff gets very annoyed when people pull stuff out of the bins and then don't put it back.

Those students who contributed to the mess surrounding the tech dumps in the Low Building / CII should go back there and clean up their mess.

RPI would like to invite you to Rally Week (9/13 - 9/19). Set out to create one of the largest campus traditions, the entire week is packed with events, competitions, performances, live music, food, and so much more. And the best part is it’s all free.

At its heart, Rally Week is about building community and school spirit. It’s a chance to step outside your usual circles and celebrate everything that makes our campus unique. And it’s run by you- students, clubs, and organizations across campus.

Sign up individually or with a friend, and you’ll be placed on a team of 20 students from different class years. Throughout the week, you’ll face off against other teams to win the Rally Week Trophy, with all sorts of prizes and exciting experiences along the way.

If you’d like to take involvement further and get behind the scenes, Rally Week is looking for volunteers. It’s another great way to get involved.

Rally Week is free and open to all RPI students. Our hope is to create one of RPI’s largest traditions, and we would love for all of you to be a part of it. Sign up to join a team or volunteer and help make this a week for the entire campus.

Why did troy gong cha close?

Upvotes

And why isnt any other chain bubble tea place in troy? Is the demand really that low? You have to have a car to drive to albany to get a bubble tea now. I do realize that when gong cha was open it was usually empty. I just wonder why college kids dont love bubble tea here how they do in other campuses

Study the humanities to make the most of your STEM education

Post image
Upvotes

For the Polytechnic, Dr. Mitch R. Murray (Communication and Media) writes on the employability of the humanities, the challenges facing STEM grads and workers, and the greater purpose of higher education: https://poly.rpi.edu/opinion/2026/09/study-the-humanities-to-make-the-most-of-your-stem-education

"Job markets, and the types of knowledge construed as socially valuable, fluctuate over time. The humanities bolster you when confronting that flux. But while the humanities will prepare you for your job, they do not view you as a cog whose only purpose is to get that job."

Planning for spring freshman yr registration

Upvotes
  1. Is it unusual/too much to do 2 lab sciences ( chem 1 and physics 2) in one semester? Is it advisable if doing that to reduce credit load from 17 to around 14/15 credits?

  2. What are some relatively straightforward ME classes after MANE 1010 is completed, that can be added to those 2 lab classes plus CAD for a semester 2 schedule? By straightforward I mean the opposite of classes like CAD that take up more time than would be expected given the number of credits. Do not want to do a HASS class that semester. Would it be material science? Solid mechanics?

Question Only have 8 credits left before to complete my degree, will adding a random extra course impact my financial aid?

Upvotes

I’m a senior, and I only have two more classes (just 8 credits) that are required for my degree after this semester. I’m more than willing to take at least one random class to get it up to 12 credits to stay a full time student, but it won’t count towards my free elective requirements or anything, since those are already fulfilled. I just wanted to know, if all 12 credits need to count towards my degree, especially since I want to keep my full financial aid.

Is it odd that RPI is becoming my dream school? Please tell me more about RPI

Upvotes

Hi,

Recently I did some last minute college research and I am now much more interested in RPI! I'm currently doing Navy JROTC at my high school, and it's one of my most active clubs and counts for multiple activities on my College App (think high leadership, community service, competition awards, teamwork, etc.) and was notably interested in RPI's NROTC Program. What made this school stand out to me is how the NROTC's Program has internship connections with places like NASA and General Dynamics! RPI is also within a good driving distance (4-5 hrs) from home and has good research opportunities and facilities, which are huge pluses for me.

I also decided to make a last minute switch from Nursing to Materials Engineering for personal reasons. Because of this, I'm late in the Engineering game in terms of high school coursework and I want to actively see how I can push myself towards RPI! I'll probably make a separate post of this to see if I'm competitive enough for the school.

I've heard how the school's new administration is turning the place for the better in many areas and the community is very STEM oriented, so I'm looking forward to that for a change of pace (and to hopefully have more friends in STEM lol).

I wanted to get more of your inputs as to why you enjoy RPI and what I can look forward to, as this school is aligning with most of my interests so far and I see no reason not to consider it one of my top choices. I'll be touring the campus next month, so please let me know what you guys think! Any inputs from any ROTC students is definitely appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

Forward prerequisite checking tool

Upvotes

Is there a tool that exists to check all the courses that require a specific input course? Say I input PHYS-1200, this hypothetical tool would show me all of the courses that has PHYS-1200 as a prerequisite.

International Economics or Labor Markets?

Upvotes

I'm looking for an easy econ class this semester to boost my GPA. The only two available at this time are ECON-4190 International Economics and Globalization with Michael A. Klein or ECON-4380 Labor Markets & Discrimination with Conor Lennon. Does anyone know if either of these classes is noticeably easier than the other, or are they about the same? Thank you
