Reddit-related This sub fucking sucks now, who agrees?
I don't know what's happened to it, but all I see are fucking endless sex questions or shit about sex. What happened to actual too afraid to ask questions and not fucking veiled attempts at promoting someones Onlyfans.
Mods, you'll delete this I know but I hope you take heed that this sub has become a cesspool of what it used to be.

All “ask” reddit boards have been extra awful since the 2024 election. Tons of accounts less than a week old posting leading questions about politics or fake relationship stories.

I'm sure it's bots every time I see the question structured like that.

Askreddit and AMA both went to the shitter quite a few years back. Damn shame because they used to consistently be some of the best subs despite being some of the dreaded default subs. Now it's all basically "DAE Politics?" and the occasional "gen X bad" with a touch of "What are your feelings on X current major event happening in a field".
Easily some of the most content-dead platforms out there.

Yeah AMA in particular went almost overnight from regular celebrity AMAs and super interesting personal pieces to "anyone wanna hear about my tax advice?"
I honestly don't even know what's going on there anymore, it's basically never shown up again. Reddit effectively killed it entirely and it was one of the largest traffic drivers at the time.

Reddit in general has had a dramatic quality drop since they killed 3rd party apps. A significant amount of people stopped using Reddit. All the major subreddits are astroturfed and infested with bots which leads to lowest common denominator posts.

Mostly it sucks that every time you reply to someone the whole thread gets deleted by moderators. So there is no point to reply to anyone.
There should be some separate Reddit community where all 9 year olds can ask about sex/puberty.

I mean, I had a genuinely "Too Afraid To Ask" question a few days ago, but it was immediately removed for some reason. So maybe there's a lot of good stuff, it just is getting axed by automod / Reddit's filters.

If you run into issues with automod, always feel free to shoot a modmail.
In your particular case, it looks like it got caught by automod for mentions of suicide. We allow questions on suicide, as long as they follow Rule 1, which your post would've been fine. Unfortunately, we also get a lot of legitimately suicidal people asking for methods, so the suicide filter is fairly strict.
We try to skim mod log for stuff like that, but unless we get a modmail it tends to be a bit lower priority. And often it's been deleted by the user before we get to it, in which case we can't manually approve it.

Not to defend the quality of the questions here...but this isn't askreddit or other Q&A board. It's questions that people are "too afraid to ask".
Especially in a country as prudish as the US, many of the questions people are afraid to ask are sexual in nature. People are taught to be embarrassed about their sexual thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, which leads to repression, depression, and self-doubt.
In short, I'm not a fan of many of the questions because they could have just asked Copilot or done a search...but let's get real about what "too afraid" represents.

Dunno when it started but I either posted here or nostupidquestions which has the same feel. The question was something like "should I wait a second when the microwave stops before putting my hand in? like are there residual microwaves still bouncing around"
and pretty much everyone called me stupid.

I think that that (and related issues) are a bigger problem than what bothers OP.
It seems the bulk of the answers are jokes, insults, or luke-warm "it depends" nonsense that don't really answer the question. On more than one occasion, I've wanted to answer someone's question only to give up when there was already so much useless crap in the comments that it seemed pointless.

If you see these, please report them under Rules2 and 3 respectively. We do enforce them, but this is the sort of thing we rely heavily on reports for.
Very often people will complain.. and then we go through and look and nothing got reported.

The reason we exist is because they only allow factual/provable answers which removes a whole set of questions where it's not a provable answer, so we cover that spectrum.

This is a problem with reddit is popular subs get "spin-off" subs trying to capitalize on the same success.
So from "am I the asshole" you get "am I the jerk" "was i in the wrong" "Am I overeacting" etc
There's about a zillion "film critique" subs and don't even get me started on the "whoa dude" "thats interesting" etc catch all subs

It's all just a bunch of dumb sex questions which are easily googled, general questions about the sexes where the answer is some do and some don't and relationship questions where in most cases the correct answer is communicate with your partner. I swear if most of those aren't bots this next generation is boned cuz they lack the ability to talk to friends or do a basic Google search so they ask redditors and a lot of redditors give terrible advice haha.

It’s a case of ppl responding and commenting on sex questions so they get to the main feed.

I see these all the time and I'm convinced they're just karma farming because people sympathize with the story.
"Am I being groomed?" Proceeds to post a detailed story how she's 17 and a 39 year old man is giving gifts and asking for sexual acts in return.
"Was I SA'd?" Proceeds to post a detailed story of boyfriend forcing her into sex after she said no.

? Yeah, that’s what a lot of people are afraid to ask people about irl. At least in the US, can’t speak for every other place. If they want financial or cooking advice or something they can just ask their friends. If you don’t like it, well, leave. No one is forcing you to be here.

There are currently 4 in the top 10 questions related to sex.
This is something we get every once in awhile, but the sub hasn't changed. We've always allowed sex questions, and we are not going to change that, because sex is a heavily taboo topic that falls firmly in "Tooafraidtoask". You can see e.g. this post from literally 4 years ago on the same topic, people have been saying this since the sub existed. People say this literally every year, and have since the sub existed. It's never changed.
To the extent that things have changed, if anything we moderate far more heavily than in the past, due to things like the FAQ. Not less. If you see violations of Rule3, or something that goes on the FAQ, report it. (Relatedly, I can say with confidence we get relatively low amounts of reports for those things)
In the past, we would suggest people use a filter, but as far as we're aware Reddit killed those when it killed 3rd party apps.
So, these suggestions are difficult, because this is something we actively, heavily ban for already. There's a reason it's stickied as the top post, and we are not lenient on it.
If you have specific examples, that would help. But it is really not helpful when people's examples are things we already actively moderate heavily.
