People have been making performative content for generations. It used to be call "film" and "TV". Only difference is that now everyone has access to it with internet access and cheap cameras.

FIlm and TV is an art form, social media posts are purely for validation. They're not comparable.

Plenty of film and TV are made for validation. Plenty of social media is a form of art. It's not as black and white as you think.

Yes, and people make fun of, criticize, and generally hate on tv/films that are overly performative, and/or are created to seek validation.

People do not generally criticize and hate on artistic social media posts, like music or actual artistic photography and whatever.

Do you see the difference? People don’t like inauthentic people doing inauthentic things for attention or validation

Any social media posts that might qualify as art aren't part of what people complain about. Obviously the statement I made sounds sweeping, but social media encompasses so much these days that there are bound to be exceptions. Youtube is technically social media but it's full of great content.

Think it's a pretty hard sell to say anything that takes as much effort and collaboration as a TV show or film could somehow be made purely for validation the same way a low-effort social media post made by a single person can be.
