Food & Drink Rating 16 Ice Cream Parlors in and Around Liverpool, NY

Upvotes

Earlier in the summer, there was a post asking about the best ice cream in the area. It was a funny sort of serendipity, as my kids and I had already decided to try as many ice cream places as we could close to us or things we were doing. We made a score card to judge, and judged based on a twist cone and whatever else we ordered.

Our score card:

  • Cost and size of twist cone (non-scoring)
  • what kind of hard ice cream (non-scoring)
  • Taste: how yummy it is 1-5 ⭐
  • Smoothness: how smooth the ice cream is 1-5 ⭐
  • Generosity: how much ice cream for the money; can vary wildly 1-5 ⭐
  • Menu: variety and extent of the menu 1-5 ⭐
  • Seating: how much, if any seating, better for in and outside 1-5 ⭐ (non-scoring)
  • Overall: average of Taste, Smoothness, Generosity, and Menu scores 1-5 ⭐

As school is starting, we finished out our rally and I thought I would share our results, as subjective as they are. No wrong choices, really.

Discussion Why does Shrek continue to haunt us, even at the NYS Fair? (Shrek Rave photos, commentary)

This piece was among our most-well read stories of the New York State Fair.

Fairgoers loved the Shrek Rave at Chevy Court. On social media, readers asked for more raves or similar nightlife experiences in Syracuse throughout the year.

Recommendation Wanted Supporting Local Farms/Farmstands around Onondaga

Upvotes

hey guys! I have been trying to make more conscious choices to support local farmers and buy local produce when I can at the market - however I work most weekends and am not able to get over there in time for the regional market on Saturdays or Thursdays.
I’m looking for local recommendations and suggestions on farms/farm stands in or around the Onondaga County, Camillus and overall Syracuse area I can visit roadside on weekdays or order from. I’m looking for places that have either or all: fresh eggs, sourdough/bread, and grass fed beef and/or bison.

any input and recs would be greatly appreciated! I don’t mind driving a ways for good quality food! thanks guys!

Discussion Anyone in Syracuse good at Jayne Matthews style bangs?

Post image
Upvotes

Looking for someone in Syracuse who can cut bangs like in the picture attached. I’ve tried a few salons but they always turn into regular bangs that aren’t thick enough to give this look😭
I want that soft wispy razor cut look with the shorter middle pieces and longer face framing— Basically Jayne Matthews style.
Anyone know a stylist who’s actually good at this?
Thanks in advance!!

he has a mammilian nose and prominent bottom fangs, but has no ears that we know of. he has no tail, which if we still think he is a mammal, perhaps he would be a bear like creature?

please help, i am pulling my hair out about this!

Recommendation Wanted Any psychiatrists taking in-person appointments?

Upvotes

I have been searching for months, and it seems there are no MD/DO psychiatrists in the area who do outpatient psychiatry and are taking in-person appointments, much less anyone in network. I really am having a hard time believing this as there are three major hospitals in the area, but it seems the providers are all designated towards inpatient care.

I have tried to NP/PA route and while I very much appreciate these providers and they work for most people, my experiences require someone with more specific training and complex medication knowledge than I have found my previous PMHNP providers have been able to offer. I also think the best care for me ideally would be in person, but that’s even more rare than finding a provider (NP, MD or otherwise) that is doing in person appointments. I have been trying to telehealth route for so long, and it is just so defeating to feel like there is no one in an accessible radius who is able to help. Part of the reason it would need to be in person is due to the type of medication I take which requires at least one in person appointment before prescribing.

I have checked Psychiatry Today, Headway, ZocDoc… nothing.

If anyone knows of a psychiatric MD/DO provider who has in person appointments please feel free to comment or PM me.

Information & Advice Local Mechanic Recommendations

Upvotes

Looking for Syracuse area mechanic recommendations for a 2019 Crosstrek and 2023 Tacoma. Romano Toyota has messed things up twice on simple repairs. Bill Rapp has been ok over the years but I am ready to move on. Looking for something in the county, preferably on the west side of Onondaga Lake, but willing to drive to someone that’s good.

Recommendation Wanted Best cab/ride sharing option for early morning pick up to airport

Upvotes

I need to catch a ride to the airport at around 4 am---what is the best service? Lyft and Uber seem risky to me. What taxi services do you recommend in Syracuse?

Discussion Anyone else regret getting a college degree?

Upvotes

Can’t find any jobs in Syracuse. I have a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University, and I feel like everything I’m seeing here wants 5+ years of experience or already has 100+ applicants.

Other I'm looking for broken guitars

Upvotes

I'm a random guy who wants to learn how to fix guitars, and I figure, the best way to get started with that, is to pick up a few junk guitars, and try to fix them. Does anyone have any broken guitars they want to get rid of?

Does anyone know where the best place to try on figure skates is near the Syracuse University area? I want to make sure I am getting a pair that works for me without needing to online order a bunch of skates.

Recommendation Wanted Don’t gatekeeper (but if you must) please DM me your affordable high quality Nail Tech info. 💅🏽

Upvotes

I’m sick of pricey ugly nails. Please share the information of the best salon to get nice nails at a reasonable price. In the west side preferably, but at this point I’d drive anywhere within a 1 hour radius of Camillus NY.

Places I don’t like:
-Oasis nail salon
-Angel Nails

Places that are ok, but I don’t love
-No. 1 nails

(if you had great experience there I love that for you, it is too expensive and not high quality to justify the price).

I am looking for a short almond French style, and they always butcher it. I can only get my nails done in NYC because either prices are ridiculous AND they don’t deliver.

Food & Drink New York State fair prices

Upvotes

today I went to the fair specifically the Boba tea place to buy a mangonada, the lady told me it was $16 plus tax for a medium. Last year I went to the same place. I bought the same drinks, though I found it still expensive. It was about 7 dollars . The prices this year were absurd , everything was between $12-$20 per one item. Vendors were definitely overpricing things to the max. The New York State fair is definitely becoming unaffordable for regular folks who love to attend.
