They did the same things to us Aussies too. It was headlines about 3 months ago here.

Worst part is that US companies are pulling fucking cancer drugs (complete exit from our market) because they don't want to sell it at a cheap price anymore. Despite selling it and making money for decades.

Just ignore their patents. Let American companies exploit their own apathetic populace. It would be beyond stupid and treasonous for any country to hurt the healthcare of their citizens so American terrorists can have even more money.

Agreeing to their demands just means they'll be back repeatedly to keep increasing the prices since profits are more important than society to these mentally ill sociopaths that can never have enough.

honestly do it. just remake the patents in your country and sell them to American markets. they wanna fuck around and find out? let them.

The US doesn't have a single speck of dust of leverage at this point. If they want to antagonize their allies under some kind of delusional notion that they were treating them too nicely for "no reason", let them find out exactly what the soft power was buying them. Let them learn that nobody owes them anything, and international cooperation only happens if all sides voluntarily agree to participate because there's something in it for them.

Frankly, playing along with America's draconian IP policies has been one of the most catastrophic decisions for humanity in recent history. The way the US is imploding is not great, to put it mildly, but the silver lining is that this is a great chance to divorce ourselves from all that bullshit for good.

It has concrete precedent, too. The US was set to make a good chunk of Asia buy into turning the IP legislation up to 11 with the TPP, but Trump threw one of his signature hissy fits over it because it was Obama's work, leading to the US withdrawing but the rest of the countries going ahead without them, after deleting all the IP-related clauses. Frankly, perhaps the only good thing Trump has accomplished while in office, if entirely accidentally.

Want to play hardball with medicine anybody could easily manufacture but we're being too polite to right now because of historical momentum? Let's see how that goes for you.

Alright Vlad. Have fun working in the calcium mine. - Sincerely, America

At the very least, the Aus government stood their ground and wouldn't accept the ridiculous inflated price they wanted to charge.

The competitor's drug got fast tracked and put on our pharmaceutical benefits scheme, basically makes it free for patients.

As a former us citizen (can’t help where I was born) I’ll point out that its less apathetic and more of them being lied to, to the point that they believe the lies and reject anything that challenges their “truth”.

But the second part you said? Absolutely correct. Don’t let them do that to you; as last I was there visit my mom and grandmother, they’ve already screwed things so that many won’t be able to retire.

Beyond that? No. Let the us fall; and don’t run to save them when it happens.

We should also hire the research groups DOGE defunded - there was really promising mRNA cancer treatment research with excellent early results that only got discontinued because RFK Jr. hates mRNA technology. If we Europeans got those teams and continued the research, we could save millions of lives AND make billions of Euros.

Healthcare should keep people alive, not keep them financially struggling for the rest of their lives.
