Has anyone left a "career" to work a normal job and live a quiet life?
I am a 34-year-old single woman. I am going through a major existential crisis because I have been working in digital marketing for 11 years and I have hated every role I've held. I feel like this whole industry is truly useless. I can't get past the "who cares" factor when I see my colleagues obsessed with tiny design tweaks that no customer will ever notice or care about. It's truly strange how much energy is wasted on a single email campaign or a promo graphic that 98% of people will ignore or delete. That's the "honest" side of things. Then there's the performance-based stuff, which is pure manipulation - clickbait and psychological tricks to fool people into clicking just to satisfy the algorithm. It's honestly exhausting and very disgusting.
There were a few projects that didn't make me want to quit immediately. For example, if a site needed a better navigation menu, I could see the value in something like that. But things always get out of hand. Suddenly, we find ourselves having to track every movement, run endless tests on trivial things, and try to put a specific price on every mouse click. The "data-driven" conclusions people reach are often just made-up nonsense to justify their presence at work. The constant pressure for never-ending growth is killing me. I am truly completely burnt out.
Am I the only one who sees this whole corporate structure as one big prank?
I am honestly ready to give up. I want to simplify everything, go back to my hometown, focus on my family, find a real relationship, and work in a coffee shop or a flower nursery. Something that doesn't need me to sacrifice my mental peace for the sake of a "brand."
I'd love to hear from anyone who has taken a step like this. Did this resonate with you?
