In 2021 several Democrats voted it down on the House floor. The Democratic leadership couldnât even get all their votes for it.
Republicans are evil and things are worse under them than under Democrats, but the Democratic Party as it is currently constituted believes that it is wrong to raise the minimum wage. If they take Congress it is highly unlikely that they will raise it, too many Democrats will vote against, they would need an enormous majority to account for those who will vote against.
Donât pretend that the Democratic Party will raise the minimum wage if they gain a majority. They wonât. They think itâs bad economics and bad governance to take it from the states. I donât see the point in lying about it. They think raising the federal minimum wage is wrong, and they wonât do it.
You will only piss people off more if you tell them that the Democrats will do it, and then they donât. Youâre making it even worse. Just be honest and say we have a lot of work to do convince the Democratic Party that it is the right thing to do and we wonât give up yet.

He gets paid $1.6 million in cash and the rest in stock options, which don't come out of the company's profit. Each McDonald's location is owned by a franchisee, not the McDonald's corporation. The McDonald's corporation is the landlord and rents those locations to the franchisees.

I got my first job with withholding about 4 months before I turned 14. Minimum wage $3.35/hr. When I started working two jobs that summer, I received about $108 of my $140 gross. That's been my minimum tax, it can be as much as 42% of gross. In my lifetime, minimum wage was not supposed to be enough to support a single person. And I believe it's too late to change it.

That's around $14,500/year working 40 hours a week. Minimum income to live in society today is $34,000. A minimum wage job would pay you less than half of what you need to survive. You'd need 3 working people living together just to house and feed themselves, without much left to go around.

At minimum the min wage should increase annually according to the cost of living index, as should everyone's pay already on the payroll. A new hire coming in isn't a new renter enjoying lower rent just because they are new. The cost of living affects them like everyone else.

So if $7.25 was 'acceptable' back in 2009, then it should look something like this each year. Congress gets these pay increases. Many people at their jobs get these increases, but not reliably, and this should be given regardless of any 'raises', this is not a raise, this is just life support.

When companies take advantage of people, they run the risk of alienating the workforce, which means no one will want to work for them. Businesses don't have all the power. There is power in the individual, and even more so when the individuals get together. The reason the free market doesn't work is when it is no longer a free market when the government starts meddling. When judges are bought off and in the pockets of the companies, that is when the free market fails

I do some side work in my industry. Full time job has incredible benefits but doesn't pay the best. Honestly, not terrible pay, but could be a lot better. My side work has been working in some union shops. I'm not sure of the bureaucracy, but I'm working as a union member even though I'm not full time union. I'm not a scab.
Anyway, two days at this union shop and I made more than I do in two weeks at my full time gig. Whatever bullshit excuse people have about union dues stealing your money, they are not based in facts or logic. Union dues are at most 1% of the paycheck, but they could have taken 50% and I still would have made it w like a bandit.
Unions are awesome.

Some states don't care about their citizens well-being.
Georgia's state minimum wage rate is 5.15/hr. It defaults to the federal limit of 7.25.
$5.15/hr is $824/mo at full time. $7.25/hr is $1160.
Avg expenses for an individual in Georgia are $3,414 to $4,400 per month
Illinois state minimum wage is $15/hr. That's $2400/mo at full time.
Illinois avg expenses for an individual is between 3,400 and $4,200.
