Discussion Is this ok/normal??

Upvotes

EDIT* room share as in a single bed each. Not sharing a queen bed hahaha. Also its for training at head office.

Hi all

Quick question. A large multi million dollar company I work for, wants to send team members to the head office in the north island.

For "team bonding" they have strangers sharing rooms at the hotel they are putting is up in. Its all same gender room sharing but im absolutely not ok about this.

It gives cheap skate vibes passed off as team building. I dont want to be away from home AND share a room with a complete stranger.

Is this normal or ok to other people or am I being uptight?

Advice Be careful using AI for advice

Upvotes

Reminder to all to always question everything and if using AI dont take it as gospel. Always check with a professional. I asked AI to provide information on a IRD guidelines doc. I provided AI with the doc number and asked if I was doing something correct based upon the document. This was more just an experiment as I knew the correct answer.

AI advised me incorrectly regarding a business depreciation rate, I asked AI to recheck and it still came back with incorrect answer and added an explanation to where it had obtained its information in the doc.

In the end had to give AI a copy and paste of the section in the doc and it came back with this reply eventually.

"You are absolutely right, and I apologise for the confusion. I misread how those two specific lines are organized in the guide. You are completely right to call me out on this, and I'm deeply sorry for giving you the wrong advice"

So all, just be careful how and why you use AI and if for important information always check with a professional.

Discussion Auctions: Can we do better?

Upvotes

Went to an auction recently and saw how unethical it is as a system.

The auction room consisted of a mixture: first home buyers, investors, developers. All of whom had paid thousands in due diligence costs. And then the bidding started.

As the the reserve price was met, I could see the real estate agent cheerfully informing the vendors of the blood bath ensuing as each bidder kept fighting for the house.

An old lady ended up winning the house, but I looked around at everyone else who had paid thousands. They all lost... Their money, their time. They were all used to make the vendors and real estate agents rich.

What a horrible system. Has anyone experienced this horror show before?

All this hype just pushes prices up further and further, making home ownership less possible for people.

I couldn't sleep at night if I sold my house in this manner.

Thoughts for and against are welcome. I just want to understand: can we do better?

Discussion Banana on toast, that's all good aye?

Upvotes

I’ve been eating banana on toast for ages. My family did it, so I did it. I’m talking basic white bread, butter, sliced banana.

But this morning while making it, it dawned on me… is this weird? Is it a New Zealand thing?

Does banana belong on bread if it’s not banana bread?

Might be overthinking this. Happy Tuesday whānau.

Discussion Recent E.D experience in chch

Upvotes

My daughter broker her wrist playing netball on a Friday at school. I picked her up from the school office where the school nurse reckoned she’d be ok, fair enough because she hates any pill/ pamol so the next day 😬we go into after hours, get an xray and we’re off to the hospital to get it straightened and then a cast. All the drs and nurses were all amazingly friendly. What fucks me off was when I was sitting close to there admin desk and hearing the conversations of how to make things work, their planning for how to handle the afternoon. A couple things got missed with my daughter and I don’t blame the drs at all as they have so much on, every single one was a really nice person, but they have to do that with heck knows how many patients a day. Dunno where I’m going with this but up the health care workers!

This is aimed at under funding hospitals. The staff are amazing. The government is not

Sports NZ Warriors ticket scalpers

Upvotes

NZ Warriors tickets sell out pretty much instantly, just 30 minutes later they start to appear on trademe at double the price, with the reasons "we are now unable to make the game"

Please don't pay any more than the original cost price of these tickets so these scumbags can't make any money.

Advice How do I be better hand stop feeling resentment towards some beneficiaries

Upvotes

Before I start, it's not every single one, I don't have an issue with people on job seekers, going through a tough time, parents etc.

As a bit of context my flatmate is on the benefit, I make about 200 more than them a week and I work full time. My flatmate has a better life than me, they buy name branded things, don't go hungry etc. Yet they are constantly asking me for money claiming that I'm rich because I work. They once cleaned the house and were complaining to me that I wasn't doing enough (I have two hours free when I get home, so I clean over the weekend) and that they had been working so hard. I work full time, they spent max 3 hours cleaning a week. How is that hard in comparison? As a result of these interactions I'm starting to dislike some on the benefit. And that's not a fair way for me to act, my resentment is at my flatmate for thinking I'm their piggy bank, and it shouldn't be at innocent people. How do I be a better person?

Discussion Does putting your wife in a bikini actually help sell a boat?

Upvotes

https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/boats-marine/motorboats/listing/6104392541

Was idly looking at boats on Trade Me last night. Am after a little runabout to keep at the bach and for some reason the algorithm served me up a fairly elderly family boat in Christchurch

Not remotely what I’m looking for, but curiosity got the better of me, especially with a woman in a bikini posing with it as the first photo.

Why? What information is this providing the prospective buyer? shes presumably not included in the $39,900.

And it’s always this sort of boat. You don’t generally see someone selling a Riviera for $2 mil and think what this listing really needs is Denise leaning over the swim platform

I showed my wife and suggested perhaps when we eventually sell the Range Rover she could put a bikini on and lean against the bonnet . Luckily I wasn’t slapped

Maybe I’m getting old but if you are selling boat, I want to see the engine, hull and service history. I don’t particularly need to see what the current owner’s wife looks like in swimwear (even if she is in quite tidy shape) . Honestly surprised this type of behaviour hasnt been “cancelled” by now

Is this genuinely supposed to increase enquiries? Or is it basically the marine equivalent of putting flames down the side of a Holden?

G'day brucies, hoping to defer to the superior wisdom here. I want to build a diorama of this class piece of architecture.

How accurate is this layout of the West house? The rooms might be configured wrong (the scale feels way off)... and also where is the downstairs access to the basement? I think I've cocked that up too.

RIP 85 Royal View Road Te Atatū South, Auckland, only found out in the last year that it was demolished :'(
