Is it a good idea to store MacBooks/iBooks like that?
I've been storing them like this so far, but I feel like it's not a good idea.

I’ve had the iPhone 4S, 5C, 7, and 13. Then I tried Samsung with an S24 FE. It was nice having 120Hz and the experience was okay. I’d never had a Mac; I had a Samsung Galaxy Book Pro whose screen cracked suddenly… ugh… and Fedora Linux didn’t have drivers for its proprietary hardware, so I either had no mic, speakers, camera, or fingerprint reader, or I was stuck with the bloated, crappy Windows 11.
Until I eventually got a good deal on a Mac mini M4… and switching to macOS was a breath of fresh air. I always thought people bought it for status and that it wasn’t worth it… but I study Computer Engineering and it’s just perfect for development, music, light gaming, and local AI (Qwen & Gemma). Just amazing.
(I still love Linux and see it as like macOS’s cousin, since they both follow Unix principles. It’s just not as seamless and polished… although I have been seeing content on Omarchy recently and I want to try it eventually.)
So last month I travelled abroad and, since the prices here in Brazil are horrendous, I couldn’t miss the opportunity. I went for the whole ecosystem: iPhone 15 Pro, Apple Watch SE 3, AirPods Max 2, and a MacBook Air M5 from Apple Refurbished after selling the mini.
Been loving it all so far. Apple really excelled with their M-series chips, and this thing is light! Such an amazing screen as well. And, as a musician, the AirPods are just perfect: comfortable, versatile (I often use them through USB-C so I get Lossless and no delay for music production), and super handy for automatically switching between my devices. The sound is just heavenly.
Any tips from fellow Apple enthusiasts?

I somehow found a broken M4 Air for $100. I removed the screen, and (after 3 hours of repair and a little struggle), I attached it to a monitor, hit CMD F1 to mirror my ”screen” to my external monitor, and I have a perfect new setup for an incredible price.

I found a used 16-inch MacBook Pro on OLX with:
- Intel Core i9 (8-core)
- 64GB RAM
- 4TB SSD
- AMD Radeon Pro 4GB
- 16-inch Retina display
- Looks like it has been used very little
I'm considering it mainly for software development, college projects, Docker, databases/Redis, VMs, AI/ML projects, and hackathons.
I know Apple Silicon is much better for battery life and efficiency, but I'm wondering about the practical limitations of this particular configuration.
What would I actually be unable to do on this Mac?
Would the 64GB RAM + 4TB SSD make it worthwhile despite being Intel?
Also, what would you consider a fair price in 2026 for this exact configuration?
Would you buy this over a newer M1/M2 Mac or a Windows laptop with a stronger GPU?
Any advice from people who have actually used the 16-inch i9 would be appreciated
Getting the deal for ₹86k and I'm worried about battery backup of this laptop, how the normal battery backup??

So...my headphone jack was working fine when I had originally received this MacBook Pro (2024, 14" M4). I do a lot of music production and such so I used it frequently.
I also had an audio interface connected via USB-C for recording. No issues there. I could still plug in headphones to either the interface, OR my headphone port (after switching audio sources of course).
But then it started to...crackle. Almost like the sample rate dropped by 1000%. I figured it was mechanical, so I brought it in to an Apple Store to get it repaired. The gentleman there told me they break often because they aren't used as often anymore (everyone has Bluetooth headphones now), which means they cheap out more with the jack. Understandable. Still got it replaced.
I went to pick it up yesterday but had no time to check it, so I am currently checking it. Damn, still crackling. So then I figured maybe some of my audio software was creating the issue...so I did a reset and clean install of the OS. After that was done, went straight to YouTube to confirm. Still...crackling. I'm at a loss.
I'm using basic studio monitoring headphones, no special impedance rules or anything, just a basic headphone. They work with all my other devices. So it isn't the headphones. It's something with this Mac. A weird software glitch? Did something deeper get fried? I have no idea.

So I spilled milk on my Mac I was pretty quick to tip it on its side and dry the Mac quickly. And tip it over. I then used a video to take the caps off that I knew had the milk spilled on it especially since the lighting showed where it was in the corners. It was a lactaid protein milk. I acted quick and it seemed I got it quick enough and that where it was the milk either dried quickly or I got it quick enough. I don’t know though if my method of using the playing card worked and the corners got wet with milk which it wasn’t soaked in or if the milk went further into the board. I’ll try to get geek squad to look at it tomorrow but Google says it will cost a lot of money to fix or clean if it went deeper. But it seems like there’s a small cover over those tiny little holes in the cap but I’m not sure since I don’t do computer work. Any assistance would be great as I don’t have the money to fix an expensive fix or buy a new one.

Recently have had issues with getting it to charge. When originally powering on says it’s charging. When logging in it displays a plug and says battery not charging. History of my MacBook. Have replaced the motherboard and its power button. Should still have original charge ports they don’t seems wallowed out. Have replaced battery as well is it possible the ribon cable is bad?

Hi I currently bought a Mac Pro m1 with 16 gb of ram and 256 ssd, the same seller has a Mac Pro 14” M1 Pro with 512 ssd and 16gb of ram. I wanted to ask if it’s worth upgrading (essentially giving the m1 and $400 on top for the M1 Pro) please let me know if it’s worth the upgrade the M1 Pro also has a better battery and is in excellent condition whereas the Mac m1 has some flaws on the screen. Thanks

So basically I have been trying to get a macbook. Should I buy a refurbished macbook pro m1 pro from maybe ebay or backmarket around $750 or should I get the macbook air (new) at $1200. I am a student so mostly I do coding works and I have a lot of tabs open, I do video editing as well. I am trying to save money here so whats your suggestion?. I need something that can handle my tasks for atleast 2-3 years. I like the features of pro model like better brightness, fast display and main the performance also it is 1 inch bigger than air(except the 15 inch air). Also If I will buy the refurbished one which is the most trusted one like ebay, backmarket, amazone. Also, I know apple also sells refurbished ones but they are not that cheap than buying new so I please give me some genuine suggestions. I hope you guys will help me out here!!!!!!

Just got a new 14” MacBook Pro M5 in Silver and I’m torn between a Tech21 case and a Uniqfind case.
I really like the look of the Uniqfind cases, especially the Coastal Woven, but Tech21 seems to have a stronger reputation for fit and protection.
I’ve also read all the debates about hard shell cases potentially putting stress on the hinges or display, so I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has used either brand long-term.
For those who have tried Tech21 or Uniqfind:
• How is the fit and overall quality?
• Any issues with the hinge, screen, or lid closing properly?
• Does the case add much weight or bulk?
• How has it held up over time?
• If you’ve tried both, which would you choose?
I’m careful with my MacBook and will also use a sleeve when carrying it, so I’m mainly looking for everyday protection from scratches and minor bumps while still keeping the MacBook looking nice. Thanks!

i am a bachelor of arts student (gender studies and psychology) going into my 3rd year, and i need a new laptop because my junky HP laptop i've had since i started high school is at the end of its life (and i've wanted to switch from pc to mac for a while because all of my other devices are apple). i don't know ANYTHING about computers lol but i know i want something that will get me through the next 5 years at least (rest of my bachelor's + future master's in counseling or social work). i've done some research to determine that a macbook neo would be more than suitable for what i need (so i won't have to spend nearly twice as much for the macbook air) - i really just need my laptop for note-taking/writing papers, web browsing, checking my email, occasional teams/zoom meetings, etc and outside of school purposes literally just streaming (tv/movies/youtube). i don't store any kind of large video files on my laptop nor do i use any bulky software programs. the only apps i have downloaded beyond browsers and the basic stuff that comes pre-installed are netflix and spotify. pretty much everything i store on my laptop is through the cloud (mostly google but occasionally MS office).
i've only used about 85GB of storage on my current laptop, however i know that apple's operating systems (?) take up a decent chunk of storage space. i don't want to run into a situation where i have to be regularly deleting files off of my macbook to save storage space, and as i said i would REALLY prefer not to have to replace my laptop again while i'm in school for the next 5-6 years, which is why i'm choosing to buy a brand new one directly from apple rather than a refurbished one from best buy or from facebook marketplace etc. i love that apple has released a much more cost-friendly macbook and i feel confident that the neo will be more than functional for my personal needs, the only real question i'm left with is whether it's worth spending the extra $200CAD for the 512GB model instead of the 256GB.
thoughts??

With the recent RAM insanity, I was scared I would have to keep my base M1 Air for a couple more years. However, after a couple days of checking marketplace and OfferUp, I managed to snag this beautiful M4 16/512 air in great condition for only $680!
I really hope this’ll hold me over until the RAMpocalypse fixes itself up. All this to say, if anyone is on the fence about upgrading, I would really encourage them to take a look at the used market, there are still great deals!

hi everyone. i recently upgraded from the m1 air & bought the m5 air & have zero complaints, but i'm trying to figure out an issue with my m1 that i've been having before i give it to a family member.
basically, if you look at the two images, the photo on the left is from my old m1, and the right is my new m5. this is after doing a system transfer, so i know that they have roughly the same amount of data taking up storage, but macOS is taking up about 3x more storage on my old computer than it is on my new one.
this is an issue i've been having with it & it's honestly part of the reason i upgraded, because i have the lowest storage option on the m1 anyway & it just wasn't enough, especially with macOS taking up so much space. i've tried hard resetting it multiple times in the past & it makes zero difference. anyone have any ideas?

I have been seeing online where half of them are against it saying it would damage the hinge or display
And half say its okay to use it .
Any recommendations .
Also one more concern my previous hp laptop got keyboard marks on screen so I want to prevent them
I got my mac from iplanet and they themselves sold me a case and keyboard cover .
Any advice ?

Hi everyone,
I own a MacBook Air M4 with 16GB of RAM, which I bought in April 2025. For about a week now, I've been experiencing a flickering screen (you can see it in the video I attached). From what I could find online, this might be related to "ghosting," but I'm not entirely sure.
Unfortunately, Apple Support wasn't able to help me since the 1-year manufacturer warranty has already expired.
Has anyone else run into something similar, or is this a known issue with this model? I'd really appreciate any advice or insight on how to proceed.
Thanks so much in advance!

Hello,
I am a new user to macbook, switched to it about a month ago after using Windows PC all my life. I love the experience but there is one thing bothering me. It's the blooming effect on black background when i move the cursor. Just like this one:
https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/comments/qyn3w4/is_this_normal_look_around_the_pointer_16_m1_pro/
I've tried to find the solution and I saw other people having the same problem. The most common answer to it was that its the nature of the MiniLED screen. Okay I get it but if it is so then why changing the screen refresh rate from ProMotion to 60 Hz and back fixes it??
