I really want to play Marathon for the story, factions, contracts, lore, exploration, etc. I’m basically treating each expedition like another regular story mode
But I run into contracts that require fighting other Runners.
For example, I just got an Arachne contract that asks me to deal damage to Runners and down a Runner. The problem is I’ve been playing for hours and I’ve barely seen any human players. I literally saw one Runner in the last two hours
Is there currently a way to experience Marathon mostly as a story game, or am I basically forced to wait until updates or future mission will require other runners?

I was holding down square to self-rez and it was almost done when you started rezzing me, and then I popped up and a bot downed you. My thumb was still on square for a moment and the game registered it as a finisher. I didn't have time to reverse corse and didn't see your name, but I hope you forgive my seeming betrayal. Have never played an extraction shooter really and marathon looks the coolest. I heard it was mid though and i see the player count has gone down a lot. Thoughts?

5k isn't even like a good kit, just take it off so i can run random free kits solo cryo, it serves no purpose, let me solo cryo every day

- be Thief . load in with a free kit in hopes of getting myself some weapons to run with my abundance of purple shields . spawn overflow and immediately see supply drop at station

- find a green shield Assassin being loud and noisy in station opening secured resource , watch as they fight another Assassin + bots spawned by secured resource . . . purple shield assassin that jumped green shield assassin wins , let them start looting the bag before ending their run

- exfil goes off at north relay , head there to see if it's worth contesting . ping a purple shielded assassin

- *another purple shield would be nice*

- catch them off guard and almost down them , they smoke the small building across from the exfil , i grapple to the roof nearby and wait for them to go invis and peak . . . as all assassins do

- notice rocket drone being finished off near station

- catch them off guard again and break their shields . go in to finish only for them to smoke and run to the opposite side of NR

- go to roof in the middle to try and finish them once again . . cannot find the assassin

- give up with 3 minutes left and bolt to guarded exfil knowing at least two more players remain on the map . decide to play extra safe and don't go into exfil until ABSOLUTELY necessary

- activate guarded exfil , drone around with 30 seconds left before shell death . see the same assassin from NR and decide to DBNO in exfil

- rocket drone killer pulls up as i knock the assassin . . they finish me

- it's another fucking assassin

If they are going to keep these costs for ammo and health, backpacks even, then this would be a good outlet for late game. Plus it would allow the extraction modes to not be just the same gold pre-mades stomping on random crew fills and having them uninstall the game.

Edit: but what about sponsored kits you ask? Sure let’s share the experience of a team mate on a sponsored team, I want to spend ten minutes building a kit use my good stuff, get matched with some sponsored kits, die to a pre-made team because the pop is low, build a new kit realise I don’t have enough money for meds and ammo then do another sponsored kit run get killed by golds uninstall the game

A very hard lesson was learned here by this Rook

Using voice comms here would have worked out completely differently for them; instead of being instantly sent back to the lobby, they would have been sent along to the Algae Ponds key room that we had opened for some nice leftovers. Instead bro chose to rat in a corner, and act surprised when I opened fire.

And it's not like I would have murdered him regardless; if a Rook rolls up and says he just wants scraps or whatever we usually see them along, usually pointing out the location of some bodies that still contain loot. We do give them a fair warning though, that any attempts at tomfoolery will be met with them being sent back to the great blue slurry factory in the sky.

TL;DR - Use your comms, a 50% chance of survival is better than a 100% chance of being sent back to the lobby.

Bro was fighting his demons

There's way too many vfx's when shooting/being shot at that really easily can make you miss crucial shots during a firefight (unless you're on roller, which bypass this issue). Add to that the hectic clutter that grenades fill your screen with, even if they don't actually hit you (looking at you emp grenades) and the overall fairly dark/foggy environmental lighting and target acquisition can be kind of ass in this game.

Additionally, nothing feels worse than bringing a sniper into a map and not being able to see further than 15m ahead of you thanks to the intensity of the fog.

I love this game & have put over 300h in it during S1, I would play more regularly but I don't wanna bother with how garbage of an experience Windows is.

99% of my games work just fine on my Manjaro install, can whoever decided to block the game at Bungie get his shit together and stop being an ass about Linux support, thanks.

Not sure if this is the right place for that & it's just shouting in the wind really, but maybe with all the talks about playercount you'd wanna get as many people onboard as possible.

So, first of all i'm censoring the names cause i don't want any hate on this guy.

What happened: We basically wiped the lobby in Outopost and while goin for the Exfill we got pushed by 4 Rooks, two of them managed to get a full kill on the Triage, and a second one downed the assassin. Now, i managed to kill the first rook while i had no sight on the second, but our downed teammate decided to jump in the exfill and just go instead of staying there.

It's all permitted for sure, but at least, if you barely got a slice of the damage and did almost nothing in every fight, try to be as helpfull as possible

Anyways, some chad killed me and took my purple key room loot in solos and I'm sad about it.

I offered my drinkable cheeseburgers, I had two of them. They could have just said no.

I have seen this misinformation taken as fact by so many people, I need to make it clear: the WEAVEmaster title MUST be earned in ONE SEASON.

The challenge description is “In any season, evolve your cradle 7 times and reach level 70.”

To put it another way, the challenge is satisfied when you: reach the final stage of the final evolution of the cradle. Numerically, this means having 77 available cradle points. You’ve reached Evolution 7, and you’ve reached level 70.

to be clear; you do not get the reward of the title when you evolve for the 7th time. The 7th evolution actually has NO reward - until you hit level 70 on that Evolution. That debunks the theory that “it’s /1 because the skins are the progress bar”

Further data to support this:
The progress bar is /1, with no way to track how close to your 7th evolution + Level 7 you are from the total.

Many people argue that the codex will not be reset next season. This is correct. This is why the title is a /1 and not an /8 that you can make progress towards over multiple seasons.

Further and most damning! The TITLE UNLOCK DESCRIPTOR for the title drops the “In any season,” language — the language that is the entire opposing theory rests on.

JUST like the only other PRESTIGE title in the game, PROFITEER, WEAVEmaster is NOT cumulative.

Finally, some people may argue that “evolution points will stay post wipe” to which I must insist they will not.

Removing one of the core gear-dump endgame goals for the most dedicated players (those who’ve earned weavemaster) while simultaneously giving them an additional 7 points of Evolution right off the bat allowing them to hit rank 77 on Day 1 would be antithetical to the basic idea of the reset, which is to give endgame players something to do again and allow new players a somewhat even playing ground.

YES I know Bungie made this same mistake before but they’ve acknowledged that and would certainly not be foolish enough to build an entire system around permanently empowering it’s highest playtime players while simultaneously removing one of their largest goals when entering a new season.

To be clear, this “goal” is the entire purpose of loot once a player reaches a full vault and has completed the endgame activities. Resetting your cradle is essentially a self inflicted micro wipe. I believe people believe they’ll stick around because of the Arc Raiders expeditions, but they must realize that expeditions are the only type of wipe Arc has.

Please try to poke holes in my theory in the comments as I’m positive I will be able to refute any of it!

My final thought:
If WM were a cumulative skin, they’d essentially be guaranteeing that season 7 of the game every day one player has it. Regardless of player count that’s just not good game design to offer such a prestige title simply for emptying your vault to the worm and resetting at hour 0 every season.

A playlist set in Night Marsh, only accessible by those with a special event kit you can access in the armory, much like in Vault Breakers.

Three crews of players plus two rooks spawn in a random, cordoned-off Point of Interest: The objective for the Rooks is to kill all of the Runners, while the Runners must use what they find in the POI to survive until time runs (heh) out. The rooks spawn in a distant location and have to rush into the POI, so the Survivors have some time to gear up and come up with a plan (The POI is stocked with weapons, equipment and ammo). Rooks queuing up for the playlist have their inventory modified to only have a WSTR with two shots and nothing else except knives.

Rook Players receive certain Advantages:

• Signal Mask doesn't disguise you as an UESC bot: instead, it disguises into another runner. Same skin as one of the other players, but none of the abilities. Disguise lasts until you take damage.
• The Rook team gets infinite revives.
• Kill Runners to upgrade yourself mid-match: dying resets you to cero.
  • 1st kill: Receive the effects of a permanent Cardio Kick
  • 2nd kill: WSTR gets infinite ammo (Still have to reload)
  • 3rd kill: Recuperation is turned on indefinitely.
• Rooks are immune to friendly fire from other Rooks.

...but Runners also have an edge:

• The event kit contains a single random blue weapon, ammo and blue shields for the runners, as well as blue rarity healing items and energy amps.
• Each crew spawns in a corner of the map with a lot of loot. Friendly Fire is turned on, even among crews, but players can only damage other players after a minute of in-game time has passed. After that... its free game. If your buddy pulls a Mizzy... the temptation to merc him is there.
• If you die, you get turned into a Rook. Kill other runners!

Runner crews have to hold their own or meet up with the others and formulate a plan. Rooks have to be sneaky to get their first kills. After that, it turns into a desperate fight for survival. When time runs out, an extraction beacon materializes in the center of the map, the rooks loose their infinite revives and when they die, they don't come back (you can still spectate your Rook buddies or leave the match).

Rook to win / Extract to win!

Runners: Kill all Rooks after the timer runs out to win! Successfully extract to win!
Rooks: Kill all Runners to win! Extract without any Runners extracting with you to win!

Losers gain miniscule amounts of event currency. Winners, much more. Extra currency is granted for kills, assists, and for extracting with certain high value items.

Could the developers please make it possible to view and purchase old bundles, rather than just the current ones available in a separate menu? What’s the problem? You already have a feature that lets you view the entire set via a single item. It’s a real jerk move not to offer a choice when buying

lack of maps and content will suck but there’s always going to be a small number of players who like what already exists and want to keep playing it. I am one of those people. I will always enjoy rook 1v3ing or cryo archive runs.

Every time I no-reg somebody, I am tempted to drop the game instantly. Lost a run to mizzy no-regs earlier and just lost one to goddamn Firestorm no-reg’ing a destroyer at point blank range. All my shit gone, not due to skill problems, but because the netcode decreed it so.

“Oh the mizzy ones were because you were out of range” then make that clearer to the user. simple fix, either an indicator for a hit being out of range or a sound or SOMETHING to clarify that I was just two pixels too far for the shotgun pellets to count.

Haven't played since April due to a work trip, which has also prevented me access to the internet to keep up with the game.

A primary reason I played this game was out of the dope ARG(s) [was the 2nd person into the discord!] and lore of the series.

So it's been 6 months, where has the story gone in that time? I looked up some recap videos on YT but it seems like there's not much mentioned new wise outside the initial vibe set on game release, or really that many folk posting lore videos at all.

Either buff it or change it to something else, it’s by far the worst sponsored kit in the game

I'm at a breaking point with ranked in this game. I didn't play ranked until late wipe due to work, school, and playing D2 in its finality. As a result, I didn't climb in ranked. Because of this, ranked feels impossible to move up in as I'm always and i mean ALWAYS in a 1v3. Its the same cycle every game, I knock one with sniper, TM's bum rush and both die due to positioning. I'm always able to get 2 but can never kill the third, usually because of grenades or shotgun rush.

This is more me venting than asking for change, but man, I want to play something other than outpost and cryo for good loot. Ranked keeps it fresh. It doesn't help that I average between diamond and plat for skill but started late wipe so all the good players who play ranked are already there.

Again, this is more a vent post, it just sucks being alienated from the aspects of this game I like yet again because all my friends stopped playing and finding decent players is a whole lot harder than I though it would be in fill.

Idk its starting to be too much. I had a trio to play with everyday all S1 but none of us liked the PvE mode and what it did to the loot economy so early so they dropped it, plus D2 final update dropped. This is giving me what the solo experience is like in this game and man is it rough. Before you tell me to plays solos, its just boring to me. 90% of the people don't bring good loot in, tons of people get mad when I kill them, and gunfights devolve into hiding in a room taking poke shots till one person caves or gets third partied. On top of that, my exfil rate is much higher (i mean MUCH higher) in solos, yet I never exfil with anything meaningful. So its just leaves me in this awkward in-between where the game just doesn't feel fun anymore. Oh and for the record, PvE is fun but not my jam. Of my 9k hours in destiny as a whole, approximately 4k of those are in PvP. I love PvP, especially marathon. I am just losing motivation to play without decent teammates or matchmaking that is a complete roll of the dice.

I hate how much I love this game I really do but I truly believe it deserved better.

For starters yes it’s quite fun but I personally just don’t mesh with extraction shooters especially when I play on my own I love the world of marathon I love the art style the gunplay everything I just wish it wasn’t a extraction.

If I’m being honest I wish they went the doom route and revitalised the franchise through the same way doom did in 2016, with a story mode. I know it’s too late now and we are getting a pve next season which I’m looking forward to I just hope one day we may get a story mode that isn’t just quests that once you do one half you get jumped by three teams (skill issue Ik)
