Traffic Driver's License / Car Registration / ID Megathread
Hello r/Texas! This sub gets a Chevy Suburban's worth of questions every day asking about driver's license or car registration. They fall into one of two camps:
- Easily accessible info on the DMV website,
- Highly specific edge cases that maybe only 1 other person is going to need to know this year in all of Texas.
IMPORTANT LINKS FOR DRIVER'S LICENSE
DMV = Car registrations, car titles, license plates,
DPS = Driver's License, CDLs, State IDs, and Voter IDs.
- Schedule an Appointment - DPS no longer takes walk-in customers. Same day appointments are published at 7:15a.m. every morning, they go fast.
- Make an Appointment FAQ
- Check your DLs Eligibility or Check Lawful Presence
- How to Apply for a Driver's License
- How to Renew a Driver's License

Can’t watch YouTube without seeing Abbot
The first thing that I see when I play a video is an ad from Abbot. So sick of him. At this point I would rather watch an ad for GLP1’s or chair tai chi.

🌼 🍁 🐞 Nature 🦆 🏞️ 🌻 I visited 5 Texas beach communities with my child. Here's my reviews.
In the last 4 years I have visited most of the major beach communities in Texas after becoming a parent.
Here are my subjective thoughts:
Padre Island/Corpus Christi: Corpus has an excellent food scene as well as most family-oriented attractions. Padre Island National Seashore is great. Getting to drive on the beach and setup with no one around is amazing. Loved the dog- and car-free protected beach too. Whitecaps is fun and a little rowdy in a kind of redneck way.
South Padre Island: Prettiest sand and water, fun and funky beach town, easiest to move around on foot. Most stays are walkable to the beach. Probably overall the nicest, quietest, beach community going by vibes. (Did not go during spring break). Least favorite food scene, though.
Port Aransas: Nice waves, ferry is fun, so-so food scene. The golf cart culture killed it for me though- people just cruise around at night with their crew on golf carts blasting music. While it's not uncommon to see golf carts in other beach towns, they seem like much more of a nuisance in Port A for whatever reason.
Galveston: Neat historic port area with some interesting sights and a few good restaurants. Restaurants get packed on weekends even outside of summer season. Beach not as good as the others.
Rockport: Lovely little town along with Fulton, small food scene, but has some real gems. Small waves, but I was surprised to find clearer water than on the gulf side of the barrier island. Extremely convenient beach environment with a lot of services and very wholesome family atmosphere.
I have not been to Surfside with my child, although that was the beach I grew up going to. One day I would like to make it to Matagorda Bay for the first time.

🤔 Questions for Texans 🤠 Why isn’t Abbott helping Texans by reducing tolls?
He talks about reducing property taxes (before every election so far). Property taxes do not come out till next May. If he really wants to help Texans, why isn’t he taking immediate action to reduce tolls on the roads. This will help millions of Texans and we have paid tons in tolls so far. If he really wants to show that he’s not in the pockets of corporations, he can take executive action to reduce tolls significantly to help Texans.

Politics The Dallas county websites for early voting are both limited and extremely delayed, if not non-existent in nature. Please, anybody, explain the dilemma considering it is Sept. 07, 2026 and the early elections start Oct. 19, 2026.
On the official website of the State Government of Texas, you get diverted to a website that goes from .gov to .com depending on how far you click travel through their hyperlinks. The only early voting polling location for me, who is a resident of Dallas, County, is in Mesquite, TX. That is ~13mi from my home; so I am confused why I am being diverted towards a voting location in mesquite should I want to early vote - let alone the fact that there are no polling locations listed via the local government closer to central Dallas (ignoring the municipality of highland park?) Any reasonable answer would be greatly appreciated outside of the obvious political tomfoolery currently at hand within the national government. Thanks. The "My Voter Portal" hyperlink that redirects your to another website.

Politics Are you still registered?
Texans, check your voter status...!!
1.2 million Texans have been *suspended* from the voter rolls, and you may not even know you’re one of them.
Go to VoteTexas.gov, scroll down and click “Am I Registered?” Enter your information and check your status.

🤔 Questions for Texans 🤠 Sudden Severe Infestation After Roof Leak… Could an Unresolved Moisture Problem Be the Cause?
I’m in a rental house in the Fort Bend area and I’m trying to figure out what the heck is happening with this bug situation because it has gone from “there are some gnats in here” to genuinely insane in a matter of days.
Some backstory:
I’m the first tenant in this house and have lived here for a few years. Earlier this summer, after repeated heavy storms, my living room ceiling developed an opening from a roof leak. I reported it to my landlord in June. Eventually contractors came out and the roof was worked on/replaced in July, but there have continued to be issues involving the ceiling/attic area and the interior repair was never really the end of the story.
Then last week it rained again.
The DAY AFTER the rain, I suddenly started noticing these tiny flying bugs/gnats inside my house.
At first I thought it was just annoying and figured I could handle it with traps and cleaning.
Nope.
It has gotten dramatically worse every single day.
They are now all over the house, including my bedroom. They fly around my face, land on me while I’m sitting in bed, get into food while I’m trying to eat or cook, and I’ve had groceries essentially ruined because I cannot leave anything exposed without bugs getting into it.
I bought plug-in sticky traps. One of the traps in my bedroom went from relatively normal to COVERED in bugs within only a few hours. I’m not talking about catching five or ten. There are an absurd number of them accumulating on these traps, and I’m still actively having bugs fly around me while the traps are catching more.
I’ve cleaned. I’ve taken trash out. I’m not seeing some obvious rotten-food source that would explain an infestation exploding this quickly.
I’ve actually had to just stop having groceries over it.
What concerns me most is the timing:
• House previously had a significant roof leak/ceiling opening after storms
• There has been unresolved concern about the attic/ceiling area
• We get rain again
• Bugs suddenly appear the next day
• Population absolutely explodes over the following days
Someone has looked around the house, but nobody has actually gotten into and thoroughly inspected the attic/source area, which is the part that is making me crazy. Catching the adult bugs obviously isn’t solving whatever is producing them.
I’m posting pictures of the sticky traps and the bugs because I need people who know more than I do to tell me:
1. What do these actually look like — fungus gnats, drain flies, phorid flies, fruit flies, something else?
2. Can a roof/attic moisture problem or wet building materials create a breeding source for something like this?
If they appeared immediately after rain and are multiplying this fast, where would you investigate FIRST?
3. Is it normal for an indoor infestation to become this severe within days?
I’m a renter and I have a teenager living here with me. At this point this is affecting our ability to comfortably sleep, cook, and eat inside the house.
I’m also just exhausted. This summer started with water coming through my ceiling, turned into months of roof/repair issues, and now I’m lying in my bedroom getting dive-bombed by tiny bugs while watching sticky traps fill up in hours.
I need to figure out WHERE THEY ARE COMING FROM.
Any pest-control people, contractors, roofers, inspectors, or people who have dealt with something similar — what would you investigate next?

🌼 🍁 🐞 Nature 🦆 🏞️ 🌻 What type of Scorpion?
Hi everyone! I’m not an expert by any means, but I’d love to learn more about this scorpion. I was walking my dog near my house and came across it. It was at night, so I know the pictures aren’t the best. If anyone knows what type of scorpion this is or has any information about it, I’d love to learn more!
