Obviously I am flying into Taipei. Should it take a week to explore the area at a normal pace? I have only one hostel booked and its in Taipei. Wondering if that will be a good start for my first trip there? Or maybe book a second stay in a different city towards the end? Any tips or suggestions would be nice! Any nice meetup spots besides the events hostels put on? I'll be arriving one week from tomorrow. Thanks!

I obtained a Taiwan TAC with validity from 7 Sep to 6 Dec. I will enter Taiwan on 26 Nov and leave on 6 Dec. Will my TAC be valid on the last day?

Travel advice & opinions
I consider coming for ~10 days.
I love to explore, try new food, discovering local culture.
I saw there are opportunities to surf as well, I'm a beginner but could spend a few days to get better.
I'm also loving music so I consider experiencing the local rock scene or techno music (heard there are interesting clubs).
Finally, I might consider a taoist/buddhist retreat for a few days.
I would be solo travelling (male mid-30'). I already experienced travelling on my own but I'm the super social type, so sometimes I can feel lonely travelling on my own.
How is the experience travelling alone in Taiwan? I heard the language barrier can be hard. Are there many backpackers to meet up on the road?
What about transportation? I suppose I don't need a car but reaching Dulan by public transport for the surfing part seems a challenge.
Finally the taoist/buddhist retreat: Any that are held in English and open for tourists having just a few days to dedicate to it?

Basically, I’ve already covered the spots marked with a tick in this itinerary during my last visit to Tainan. Since I’ll be moving there in a few months for grad school, I was wondering what else there is to do and explore.
I know Tainan isn’t as lively or party-oriented as Taipei, but honestly, I’m not much of a party person anyway. I’m more of an introvert, and I really enjoy food, exploring local places, wandering around, and especially night markets - had a really good experience with the night markets in Tainan during my last visit.
So apart from the places already mentioned in this itinerary, are there any hidden gems, underrated spots, or experiences you’d recommend? Maybe places that aren’t necessarily on the typical tourist itinerary, but are worth discovering if you’re actually living there.
I’ll probably have quite a bit of free time on weekends, and occasionally during weekdays too, and since I’ll be staying in Tainan for the next 2–3 years, I’m more interested in things I can slowly explore over time rather than just the usual tourist attractions. Basically, what are the things you’d recommend to someone who’s going to live in Tainan rather than just visit it? 😄
