Question Is any of the music in SpaceEngine copyrighted?

I was wondering if the music that's used in SpaceEngine is copyrighted and can't be used in videos that'll be published. I might start a YouTube channel solely on SpaceEngine exploration and I don't want the videos to not have music.

Question Everything looks/plays very repetitive, should i refund space engine?

Upvotes

EDIT: chose to keep the game after I played in one of the HDR oled displays (laptop) i had. The game looked freaking amazing. Another aspect is the interesting engine aspect of it. Will try to mod some shaders to improve the realism, whenever i do get the time for it. Appreciate all your help!

Tldr: Played the free version, loved it. Bought the full game on sale but feel kinda underwhelming. Should i return it or it gets better? or am i just not in the right mental state, or anything else?

Long version:

So, i played the free version of Space engine a year ago and loved it. Missed the past couple sales but recently got the game in the sale for the usual 40 percent discount. And the results were pretty underwhelming won't lie.

When i first played the game (free version), I was actually terrified looking the scale, and size of the universe. I have always been a space nerd and knew a lot about the space but that first experience seeing it with my own eyes was god damn amazing. Played it for 5-6 hrs, all night, slept at 5am that day. The later days, the amazing feeling toned down, but it still remained, until I just saw the same stuff again and again and it felt repetitive.

Saw a lot of info about the updates the game is receiving and after a long wait bit the bullet and got the game. Love it still but it doesn't do the same to me as it previously did. As usual i spawned to Ton 618 to get amazed, but it was pretty disappointing. Sagittarius A* black hole was really nice but still just the same as i remembered.

Landed on planets to see sunrise, and except the diff in colors, lack (or presence) of atmosphere, it was pretty much same to me. I don't know if I am doing something wrong, or just not mentally in the zone to feel space nerdy.

So to the people who have their hundreds and thousands of hours in the game, do you think any workshop mod, or playstyle (i tried the ship, and honestly it was such a core, so dont recommend that :P) that might just improve the experience? or i am just not the target audience. I really doubt the later tho, since I am a really big space nerd. know a lot about the stars, black holes, etc. Used to spend hours and weeks learning space physics just for fun, and have watched basically all great space movies and shows.

One thing that might be a factor is I am a game engine developer. So when i see the procedural (or even non proc) objects I just feel a sense of fakeness in them. Like I have myself experimented somewhat with terrain gen and know its theory, so cant really get into the imagination of how it must feel to be there. That sort of roleplay factor is missing. Same with the lack of atmosphere really. Feels really bland.

Read a lot about the vulkan version coming three years ago, but its not complete still. And the features are not really added until it arrives. That just makes me feel like the game will always be the way it is now. That kinda saddens me since I want to feel it evolve over what i remembered, so i can experience it with fresh eyes.

Sorry for the long post. I could have experimented with the mods, but that would mean i will very likely go past the 2hr limit needed for the return. I did kinda experience the game, for 20-25+hrs with the free version, so i very much doubt it gets better unless they start updating it like crazy, which is as unlikely since they havent done that for years.

and the price of the game is not peanuts in my country. Its the most expensive game i have bought. so cant really pull it under the rug, and have it just for the sake of it. Honestly i can afford it very much, just want it to be just another bad investment.

Thanks for your time. I hope anyone atleast tries to see it with my angle. Any advice on the workshop mods will be much appreciated too, if they can convince me to keep it :)

Question How to get Great Realistic Visuals from Space Engine?

Upvotes

I'm Totally New to Space Engine, I just bought it yesterday on Steam, and i don't see many guides on visuals besides one made using an AI Voiceover i found on youtube and i don't know if that video is really accurate or not, so i wanted to take asking about visuals to the community because I don't know heads or tails of the visuals

First, My pc specs are: Ryzen 7 5800x3d, 32gb DDR4, AMD RX 7700XT 12GB GDDR6

okay specs out the way, i want to max out the colors and visuals so they look accurate, vibrant, and realistic if that makes sense, and I'm not sure how to go about that, i mean i can tune settings well, just not necessarily Space Engine's i know there's steam workshop stuff but I'm not sure which Mods to download to maximize realism, color accuracy and Color vibrancy, sorry if i repeated myself I'm not very good with explaining my thoughts as well as i like :(

Any Advice And Suggestions will help thank you so much!

Question is there a way to deactivate black holes now?

Upvotes

i got melanoheliophobia. Basically means a phobia to black holes and to my misfortune SE is. FILLED with them. i remember once i tried to zoom into what i thought was a start cus it was bright from a distance only to be jumpscared with a ringless blackhole suddently warping the whole universe around it. it scared the hell out of me back then. i wanna reinstall SE and i wish there was a way to get rid of them

Question Is there a mod that makes space engine more accurate?

Upvotes

Im not sure if this is an autism moment, but it genuinely made me quit the game. I saw multiple planets in game with extremely high water vapor concentration despite having conditions incapable of hosting them. I also saw most likely inaccurate information regarding the planet proxima centauri b. It was listed as a lacustrine terrain despite being a planet of a red dwarf with a semi thin atmosphere. The most likely reality of proxima b is that it is airless. I also saw a planet with with an extremely thin atmosphere, like less then mars, with life listed as aerial. Im not asking to make each non - procedural planets perfectly accurate with up to date information. But I do ask if there is any patch or mod to change the procedural generation to become more accurate. Thanks.

Question Thinking about getting Space Engine, honest opinions?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

So hear me out 😭

I was scrolling on TikTok and came across this insanely beautiful edit made with Space Engine, and I’ve been lowkey obsessed ever since. Like…the visuals?? The galaxies?? It looked unreal.

Now I really wanna try it myself, but I don’t know if my laptop can handle it or if it’s actually worth getting.

If you have Space Engine, what’s your experience like? Does it run smoothly? Is it easy to use, or is there a learning curve? And be honest, is it as mind-blowing as it looks in those edits?

I just wanna explore space and feel something, you know 💀

Appreciate any advice and opinion!

Name: Powehi S*

Mass: 6.5⋅10⁹

Diameter (2 Rg): 256.64 AU

I have NO idea if this is big or small but when i first saw the galaxy i could only see the big blue dot of the black hole like a big star but galaxy sized

Edit: The galaxy was called M87 and i think I've heard of it before so it might be a real one

Question Specs and games info

Upvotes
  1. Can my Samsung Book 4 (processor Intel Core 7 150U, I guess the graphics card is integrated) run Space Engine?

  2. I'd like to develop an art project which requires a good accuracy regarding the stars' positions. So I'd like to know if navigation and orientation between various stars is intuitive in Space Engine.

Thanks to anyone would answer this.

Question Need a little help

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Okay, so. I'm making a custom planet (Or rather, planets) for a custom catalog I'm gonna put on the Steam Workshop for some of my OC Planets. One of them is a planet called Kavalon that is really big. But every time I try to reload and edit bits of the Planets .sc, it ends up with this... bump terrain? And for a realistic planet that supposed to be like earth, bumps every 2 feet is not fun.

Are there any fixes or something for this?

Question Is there a way to disable zoom and speed limiter?

From moon i can only zoom to mercury to see 1/2 of it, and for speed on surface of massive stars i can go max 120m/s.

It's really annoying

I have RTX 5060, Intel core Ultra 5 225 and 32GB DDR5 and 1080p monitor
