Question Can we see death steps of a star ?
I wonder if we can see the different steps of a star until the super nova, if we speed up the time ? Thanks

No but you can see stars at different stages of evolution, just not any specific star, only separate stars at different ages
edit: nvm they're all the same age

Too bad, and no mods can do that ? And also, can we crash asteroids in planets ?

No, Space engine doesn't simulate evolution or dynamics outside of stellar orbits. That would take a super, super computer to run.

It wouldn't take that much, SpaceSim is having this implemented, but it doesn't really mesh with how SE works, which is more a snapshot of the universe rather than a continuously evolving simulation of a universe.

It doesn't mesh with SE indeed. You can't really go forward or back in time a million years instantly if you're simulating it. Plus it'd be horribly unrealistic with how SE is right now if it was just tacked onto the final system (you can often find colliding planets or stars already).

Sadly not really. All stars in SE are ZAMS, or zero age main sequence stars (except red giants; they're special cased). So even a star near death's door (but not yet a red/subgiant) will have the same properties as one that's 0 years old.

No, aside from planetary orbits/rotations and some animations like stellar coronae and accretion disks, things are static in SE. What I'm trying to say is that objects don't change from one class to another, unfortunately, so stars don't die. You can only see the death of stars in a statistical way, by finding different objects on different steps of their demise.

On why those specific things aren't static, it just comes down to whether you can skip time arbitrarily. N-body physics require you to simulate it the entire time you'd wish to skip so that's basically out of the question forever, while stellar coronae are practically just a function of time. Stellar evolution is a bit less clear though.

Yeah I figured as much, if you can't "put it on rails" they just don't bother since as much as having something like SE that actually simulates the scenarios it creates would be nice, that isn't what they're trying to do with it.

I feel like the main blocker right now is just the star browser's existence. You can't really generate 1,000+ systems a second if you make the generation code that much more complex (though tbh, the star browser could be much faster as it is now even if generation is still this slow.)

I think it's something that was planned, or at least considered. Not sure it will ever happen...
