corset top pattern made be using plastic wrap and duct tape to shape my body! I made two mockups and this is the final outcome! had to edit the patterns a few times to get the best fit.

Just finished the Andy Backpack pattern by UhOh Creations, and I have to say it was so well written and crafted!

There are tons of gussets and I only had to clip into one of them to get it to spread around the corners, everything else was a perfect fit. The designer, Tara, was also super responsive and answered a question about whether my large laptop would fit within an hour, and even going so far as to ask her friend to try and he same laptop in her bag to make sure.

I did do a bunch of little mods, including adding MOLLE/PALS strapping inside and out, adding a calculator/pen slip pocket, adding webbing for a removable waist strap, and sewing in rows of soft Velcro so I can make interchangeable organization panels down the line.

Fabric, webbing, and most hardware from Wonderground Fabrics (bonded poly/nylon, twill nylon, and hexagon ripstop). Reflective zipper tape from My Handmade Space. Spacer mesh from Sallie Tomato. Thread is a variegated bonded nylon Tex 45 from Wizardry Stitchery.

Sewn on a Juki TL2010Q and a Pfaff Select 4.2 (which honestly did better with the thick layers than the Juki).

This is my first dress and actual first anything besides the little exercises that come with any “sewing 101” kind of courses, but when I do something creative I like to really challenge myself or I get bored, so I went for this!

It was difficult? YES.
I got nervous sometimes? YES.
I had fun? YES.
I’m proud of my work? DEFINETLY YES!

It took me 3 days, right now I’m feeling like a baby coming home from school with a drawing and waiting to show it to anyone, hence my post here lol, but I’m so happy and proud and for me is rare feeling this way about myself

I have a Singer Start 1306 but I’m planning to upgrade to something a little less “basic”, I’ve read a lot of opinions about this machine, some were really hard and now I get why.

I ended up with 7 ties in total with green lining for my tie and lilac lining for the groomsmen. I was very happy with the result! I realise now that I should have also learnt to shorten sleeves on my dress shirt but we live and learn 😆

One of my really good friends originally asked me to make her wedding dress, and I informed her that that was far beyond my capabilities at the moment so she asked me if I could make her bridal brunch dress and her rehearsal dinner dress the bridal brunch dress is finished rehearsal dinner dress is coming up pretty soon, but I'm extremely proud of this piece. It's not the most perfect piece but it definitely fits her really well and she feels great in it!

Fully lined, jacquard side panels and twill bodice, cotton organza for the poof layers, lots and lots of lessons learned.

Last week I finished up this rolltop backpack. The pattern is The Slabtown Backpack by Klum House Workshop. Fabric, leather, hardware, and notions were purchased from them in their kit and I took a class at a local sewing studio to work on it. The studio provided the tools needed like the hammer and rivet tools. Fabric is waxed canvas (in navy and field tan) and it is lined with natural canvas. I LOVED this project!! It had been a while since I sewed something challenging from start to finish and I am so proud of myself. Pounding in the hardware was so fun and made me feel like a badass!! Working with the waxed canvas was incredibly easy as interesting as it held its shape and shows scuffing/lines creases in a really interesting way. I can’t wait to see how the fabric ages and gets less stiff and scuffed with time

I was intimidated to sew this because I thought it would be difficult with all the zippers and we would need industrial machines. But we were just on regular Janomes with a denim needle! And the instructional booklet is so clear even if you’re sewing on your own. I can’t wait to make something else out of waxed canvas!!

I am in the process of sewing myself a fancy dress for my brother's wedding. I don't wear dresses and especially not fancy ones so I decided to make one that fits my style.

I was worried it would be too handmade looking so I ordered a few dresses as a backup in case it doesn't end up looking as I imagined.

I'm appalled with the quality of the dresses I received 😂. It's expensive dresses mind you.

The first one looks absolutely horrible on the inside. Crooked hems, the facing is crazy on the inside.

The second dress is a sequin dress, looks nice but the sleeves ends are just turned in. Sequins rubbing on my skin the whole night? Nah.

The third dress is the craziest. It doesn't even have lining. It's like wearing a metal sponge. Are you kidding me?

I think I'll be fine regardless of how my dress ends up looking.

another little thing for my friend! The pattern is brindille & twig 114 - banded pants but I put elastic in the waistband instead of a string. The frog was originally a pocket but the eyes wouldn't stay up so I ended up just sewing them to the pants as well (I don't think a 6 month old can use pockets very well anyway).

I used to think this was just a matter of getting really high quality faux fur with a deep pile but after getting some swatches, I don’t think it’s just that.

Are they padded? Is there a name to this technique that I can look up?

I’m in the UK and I found a scrap of material recently when I attended a patchwork workshop.

Materials are donated by all and sundry to the workshop.

I have googled and found out that I think it is called Summersville by Lucie Summers for Moda Fabrics.

I think it has been about for some time. I’d like to ask if any of you know where I can buy this fabric in the UK. I have searched but no luck so far. I know this material comes in several colour ways too.

For some reason I've been Been nervous to try nicer seam finishes, decided this small project (toddler pants) would be a good time to practice... Lowkey why was this almost easier than zigzagging to me 😅

Since it’s still so hot outside lol, f igured i could do some more summer sewing. I’ll link the pattern I used in the comments. I add the lace details as an extra touch.

This is my Medieval Beekeeper outfit I made for this year's Ren Faire! Most of it is self drafted, though for the main dress portion I used McCall's M6952 as a base. The entire outfit was made of two 100% cotton bedsheets and a wicker basket base.

I referenced a 1545 woodcut for the design and main elements. However my methods and fabrics are not meant to be historically accurate as I generally add a touch of fantasy elements to all of my designs. There are three layers, a white underlayer, a blue overdress, and a hooded coif with a very long liripipe. The tassel is handmade with gold thread.

The bees were cut out of embroidered fabric and were then hand stitched onto the coif. Gold thread hand stitching was used for hemming the entire outfit, and to add buzzy bee trails. The wicker mask was difficult to make work, as I wanted it to be easy to be taken on and off. I will revisit this issue for next year. Heavyweight iron on interfacing was added to the inner hood to aid in keeping its shape for the mask, and the hem was trimmed and hand stitched with yellow bias tape, as can be seen in one of the photos. I gave away wildflower seeds in brown envelopes sealed with wax.

As for all my projects, I wish to revisit this for next year's Ren faire to make the fit and wearability more comfortable and practical. I hope you enjoy my work! 🐝

Hi, I sewed this dress with a corset style back but the fabric does this weird thing when tied. Any ideas how I can fix this?

Got a mannequin from fb market place that was super vintage. The mannequin didn't sell for a long time till the price dropped so I picked up. The fabric was dirty and dry rotted. So I decided to restore it so I can use it.

What do you guys think? It is my first time reupholstering something so it's not perfect but I added padding between so it's all Pinnable and fabric is stapled in instead of glued so I can swap pieces as needed.

I sewed these pants without a pattern out of a thrifted curtain and just followed my instincts. I initially traced the front and back pieces out of a pair of jeans I own. I’m happy with how wide the legs are but the crotch area isn’t sitting right…how can I alter it so there isn’t the scrunch of fabric in that area? My intentions for the pants were for them to be low rise ☺️

This is the most whimsical piece of functional clothing I have made in my 4 years of sewing, and I have been planning it for 3 years and actively working on it for nearly a year.

The outer fabric is furniture fabric I thrifted from Habitat for Humanity in the furniture manufacturing corridor of North Carolina- I saw it and immediately knew it needed to be a coat of some sort. Then that fabric proceeded to sit in my stash for 2 years while I passively looked for a lining.

Finding a lining was hard- initially I was going to go with black and lean into the Halloween vibes, but decided to challenge myself to find something that could make this piece more of an everyday Fall staple. Pacific Fabric in Seattle had exactly what I needed: Shooting Star-Socialite in Jade designed by Anna Maria Parry. With this lining I had the makings of a dramatic and beautiful piece.

I followed the Butterick B6603 pattern and used threads, interfacing, and buttons I already had in my stash. The large buttons are fun (and necessary to complete the drama), but I could not make button holes large enough without ruining the garment. Initially I sewed hook and eye closures (small ones because that is what I had in my stash), but ultimately that made it too cumbersome to close and remove the cape. So back to my button stash and some ribbon for an inner layer of buttons and loops for functional closures.

I've loved working on this garment, and I intend to add it to my outerwear rotation this Fall!

Were I to make it again, I would add pockets and use a better interfacing for the collar, but otherwise it is perfect!

I've been obsessed with hunting down affordable second hand linen and as some of you may know, it's quite a challenge. Linen fabric is sort of extinct in the places I've been looking, HOWEVER ... I have managed to hunt down a few sets of linen sheets/pillowcases/etc and I'm worried maybe I am wasting my time and money because I don't actually know whether this type of linen would be suitable for actual garments and I'm stockpiling for nothing. (I'm a beginner who is interested in historical garments. I am hoping to use the linens for undergarments like shifts in the future)

Currently the best price I've seen for garment sewing linen has been at $15/yd which is not bad but it is still sort of outside of the affordable range for me especially since the things I want to make out of linen are 3+ yards usually.

Comparatively, I have managed to snag full sheet sets for $30-40 which gave me like 10+ yards at the very least and those same sets cost between $150-300 retail. However, obviously they are not the super nice linen sheets and they're usually just the Target brand or equivalent. They are indeed 100% linen but I guess they are rougher or worse quality? I don't really know the difference very well.

Anyways, sorry for the long paragraphs. My question essentially is - have I been getting a good deal on the sets I've bought even if the linen isn't the best quality or should I just bite the bullet and purchase linen at $15/yd knowing it's at least acceptable quality? I'm in the USA for reference.

Im gonna point my finger and say the pattern grading L doesn’t accommodate for my size or shape chest. I am nixxing the gussets in the chest because they look atrocious and i have no idea how to fix that problem

Then, (last picture with gussets pinned closed) i still have gaping at the arm and pulling from my waist to my bust point. I am wearing the bra i intend to wear with the finished outfit, and what i based my measurements on. My measurements fit the L size other than back waist length so i didnt anticipate making adjustments (glad i made a mockup)

What would you recommend? I assume i need a longer dart in the arm and maybe make it wider? Any tips are appreciated.

title. I am a complete beginner so I am trying to figure out what is realistic for me.

I am trying to avoid buying another dress for ren faire this year, so any tips or suggestions on how to elevate this dress are appreciated!

This flag was fully sewn by me on my home sewing machine. It's final dimensions are 140cm by 72 cm (I lost a little bit of the height in the stripe seams).

I have been sewing flags like this for almost 2 months, ever since seeing Chris Flags’ videos on YouTube. I mainly do pride flags, but occasionally I make ones for country flags too to see if I can do it :)

It is made of 100% cotton, both the fabric and the thread.

The stars were an absolute nightmare, and the end result is not the cleanest but I'm happy with it as a first time sewing them.

Sewed ear cups and a headband for my headphones. Poly/cotton blend. Traced ear cups and gave that piece a seam allowance. Then cut 2 strips the length of the inside/outside circumferences of the ear cup piece to use as the walls.
