Book Request i need a cute, well-written, amazing and incredible secret relationship!

Upvotes

I feel like I’ve read every possible variation of fake dating, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, etc., so now I’m looking for something a little different: a secret relationship that’s actually cute and well written and it is a book that stays with you.

I don’t mean “they’re secretly hooking up and it’s 90% angst and jealousy.” I’m looking for a couple who are genuinely together but have to keep it secret for whatever reason, with all the fun/cute moments that can come from that. Sneaking around, secret dates, trying not to get caught, little touches in public, pretending they’re not together, that kind of thing.

I’m fine with some angst or drama, but I’d really prefer something that’s ultimately sweet and romantic rather than miserable the entire time.

Bonus points if the relationship actually develops on-page and doesn’t feel like a plot device. And I'm lookinf for MMC/FMC relationship!

Discussion The paranormal/fantasy romances that were written in the early 2000s are just fun.

Upvotes

I recently read the first ten books of the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh, and I am currently on the second book of the Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenton. Also, I have always loved the Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole. These series, that were all started in the early 2000s, are just great. Are they a little cringy and dated now? Yes, but somehow it stills works and they are just fun to read.

Discussion Bratva Bride by TJ Maguire Spoiler

Upvotes

Am I missing something from this book? I’ve seen it recommended plenty of times and I’ve just now pushed through to finish it and it fell so flat.
The only thing I know is the color of their eyes and that the FMC can kick ass. 0 build up, instalust, which is okay I guess but the premise started so strong and then the book was over?

Are the other books in the series the same? Should I continue the series atp?

Book Request Actor mmc married to regular fmc and fmc deals with jealousy

Upvotes

Hello my fellow book lover peers, I’m trying to find a book where the mmc is an actor and has obvious scenes where he needs to kiss his costar and the fmc struggles with it.

If possible to have the fmc just a regular ordinary girl, she’s not famous or a celebrity.

I’ve read {method by Kate Stewart} and I’d like something similar where the fmc sees tongue when they both agreed to never kiss with tongue.

Anything is fine! I’d just really like a scene or multiple where we see the fmc having an internal turmoil and maybe not saying anything to the mmc to put him in an awkward position.

Thank you!

Book Request Recommendation for books with fmc being in love with the mmc but he doesn't reciprocate because he believes that she deserves better

Upvotes

Okay so like the title say, I want to read books where the fmc is absolutely in love with the mmc and this isn't a secret. Everyone knows this including their friends and family but the mmc believes that she deserves better so he doesn't reciprocate and even tells her the same. So after some time of obsessing over him and trying to convince him, she finally decides that it is time to move on and to stop 'annoying' him. But this makes the mmc realize that he actually messed up big time so now he grovels and tries to win her affections back.

I don't want the fmc to get with him as soon as he finally realizes it. He needs to work for it so the tables need to be turned.

Tropes to include: I like brother's best friend trope or family friends. But tbh any trope works unless it is forbidden romance.

Tropes to exclude: I don't want the mmc to be a player who brings new girls every time to rub it in her face. This is a big no no because then I won't be able to like him getting with fmc. He has to care for the fmc but he believes that he is doing the best for her.

I am so sorry for being so overly specific and thank you so much in advance 😭

Book Request MM + CR + cheap motel rooms

Post image
Upvotes

I swear this was a little bit of a fanfiction trend ten to fifteen years ago, but I don't know how to find any of those fics now, so I'm hoping it's also a thing in Romance book land!

I want two shirtless men, sharing a humid motel room, five feet apart 'cause they're (pretending they're) not gay.

I want suppressed sexual desires and even more deeply suppressed romantic longing.

I want tenderness triumphing over violence and vulnerability triumphing over toxic masculinity.

Book Request Looking for a spicy paranormal romance with cinnamon roll MMC and an actual plot that goes beyond the romance

Upvotes

Shifters, werewolves, vampires, fae, literally whatever. But he’s gotta be sweet to the FMC, even if he’s not sweet to anyone else. The spicier the better, but I don’t want “they fuck each other” to be the entire plot. Pls and thnx

Book Request College sports romance with abused FMC

Upvotes

Hi guys👋🏽

I tried searching for this but the results weren’t exactly what I was looking for. Like the title says, I’m looking for a book with an FMC who is being physically and emotionally abused at home. Because of this, she’s very closed off and does not trust easily. I’m not particular about how the MMC comes into her life, but he’s the hot popular jock who finds her intriguing and makes it his mission to get her to open up.

I’m really looking for that gut punch scene when the FMC has tried so hard to keep her home life and her bruises a secret because she’s scared, but then the MMC notices a bruise. Or maybe after a visit home, she’s bedridden in pain from her injuries and isn’t answering her phone or texts, and the MMC breaks into her dorm and she can no longer hide.

I would prefer if there is spice. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a crazy amount with all the kinks you could think of, but just a little something. We’re all adults here right? lol

Thank you all in advance!🩷

Quick Question Tarah DeWitt: Lost and Found

Upvotes

Okay so I knew the premise very broadly going in and yes I do have experience with infertility but I’m only like 50 pages in and I’m reading this like 😬. Is there anyone who wouldn’t mind spoiling it for me because I can’t decide if I want to keep going. I LOVE her books and her other two in the Spunes series are some of my favorite books so that’s the only reason I still really wanted to read this one. Like I just want someone to run down the major plot points for me otherwise I’m going to be anxious reading it if that makes sense?

Critique Let's Kiss and Tell by Joss Richard: Have you ever read something and wondered why you wasted that time?

Upvotes

I typically read books from Libby before I purchase them. Its because I have limited budget and limited bookshelf space. Its useful because I can try out new authors (either debut or new-to-me) and see if their writing style is up my alley. I typically finish books unless I am triggered by a theme or experience, which is rare.

I read {Let's Kiss and Tell by Joss Richard} and I finished the book sort of miffed. The immaturity of the FMC and her view on relationships made me so frustrated. She's 29 in this book? And the way there's "no strings attached" for both MC and the promiscuity is excused in each of their narratives--FMC has sex with her on-off f-buddy earlier in the book *in the same 24 hour period as when she had been with the MMC* and *92% into the book the MMC has a one-night-stand out of nowhere after the FMC once again implodes the budding relationship?!? I was *angry at these make-believe people* both times! And Marsh's Grand Gesture of writing an opinion article professing his emotions and abandoning his news-writing gig and explaining his previous breakup without warning/notifying his family or his ex was like, "whaaatt? Did you run that by any editor to tame down the f-words? Maybe use your polished writing skills to express yourself in a better way?" I felt like I was reading an old-super-sour [Jake: A Man's Opinion column](https://www.chicagotribune.com/2016/08/24/glamour-magazine-breaks-up-with-jake-finally/) from Glamour magazine! (Yes, its a dated reference. Sorry.)

I read the debut novel from Joss Richard and I thought the writing was immature, and especially the FMC seem immature, but this novel is the same [the phrasing, the over-descriptive narration of what the MC is doing. Example: when they are eating and talking, there are random phrases where "he takes a bite of his sandwich and says," and then "I (FMC) take a bite of my sandwich and put it on my plate and brush the crumbs off my fingers and say,..." then someone has to take a sip of their fancy latte before talking.], and I chalked it up to new-author stuff. But is this a new rambling to enhance the word count, or is this the typical stream of consciousness for this age group (25-35)? Because my kids who are this age group don't talk or write like this.

Ok. I'm wrapping this up. Sorry. I like to support new authors as much as I can because that's how we get more books, but this really had me wanting to throw my tablet across the room.

Thank you for your time, and I am welcome to any input so I can understand better.

Review Vintage Harlequin: Close Collaboration- Leigh Michaels. 5 starts, sweet/cute- funny to boot.

Post image
Upvotes

(Stars* sorry, auto correct!)

I have been an avid reader of mills &boon and harlequins since I was a teenager. This book {Close Collaboration- Leigh Michaels} I read 20+ years ago and remembered as being super sweet and funny.

The FMC and MMC are both academics/faculty in the realm of sociology and home ec( albeit different levels) and share an “egg-baby” as a social experiment. I won’t go into too much detail of how that came to be, but the whole set up is so unique for that time period. This is not even the main theme, but it’s the thing I remembered best about this book.

The book really defies the alpha male trope and the comic relief is so welcome. The fact that the hero is blond when almost all mmcs of that time era were tall and dark was unique too. The FMC is youngish and unsure of her own place in the world, but the MMC is absolutely sure of his feelings and her place in his life.

There is a bit of “will he, won’t he” and a lot of self admonishing by the fmc telling herself she shouldn’t care what the mmc does and that he’s not into her, which is sort of how I am, so I liked it.

Book Request Need recs where the leads almost never interact early on (real slow burn with reserved/ non-sexual banter)

Upvotes

I feel like my definition of slow burn is getting harder to find. A lot of recs have the leads immediately banter/flirting or having sexual tension from the beginning. What I’m really craving is a book where the leads barely interact at all in the first half. I want to feel that ache and genuine yearning from a distance, where you're left questioning if they’re even going to pull it off. When they finally do talk, I want the conversation to be reserved, not instant sexual chemistry or even banter. I also love epistolary novels for this exact reason.
P.S. I’ve read everything by Mariana Zapata.

What was that book called: SOLVED WWTBC: business trip to Japan

Upvotes

I read this book on KU within the past year, and can't think of what the title is. CR with employer MMC and employee FMC. I can't remember much about it, except that he's an alpha hole, and at some point they travel to Japan. While they're there they attend a work dinner, where she has to maintain a kneeling position for a long time, which leaves her in extreme pain because of an old injury.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I was just thinking about it while I was rereading {The Favor by Suzanne Wright}, and something about it nudged a memory of the book I'm trying to think of.

Book Request He bullied her in the past and they meet again, he's regretful and he falls for her while she's hesitant

Upvotes

Sorry for long title. I want books where the MMC bullied the FMC very badly in high school, and they reunite a few years later. The MMC is extremely regretful; as he learns more about the FMC, he falls for her. However, the FMC doesn't forgive him easily and is very skeptical of his interest in her. I don't want the FMC to easily forgive him and date him.

I also prefer if there is no extreme class or financial difference between them—it's better if both are average, middle-class working people.

Finally, No Sassy FMC.I prefer a soft-spoken and gentle FMC who firmly stands her ground when needed.

Book Request MMC POV heavy where he gradually realises he chose the wrong woman

Upvotes

Most books tend to focus more on the "rejected" FMC. I'm in the mood to roll around in his regret. The FMC can either find a better man or get back with the original partner as long as it's done well. Would prefer that they aren't married but if so no children.

Book Request Seeking romances where one or both characters deal with a Gender Swap / Body Swap as part of the relationship

Upvotes

I’m suddenly struck with a desire for a romance where a character(s) either has their body transformed into a different gender, or find themselves in a completely new body that is different from their original body’s gender.

I’m not too picky on if it’s through magical, sci-fi, or mundane (HRT, surgery) means, but I’d really like that the change be quick or even instantaneous from the character’s perspective.

I also don’t really care what the starting or ending genders are, or even that they be one of the binary genders.

The character can initially be upset, overjoyed, or just confused by the change, but the most important part is that the story ends with the character being fully happy in their new situation. Ending with them being able to swap back and forth easily is also acceptable.

I tried looking for past requests like this and the most recent one was partially deleted and also slightly different in what they wanted.

Book Request Books with a precious bean MMC whose found family is the sass machine FMC

Post image
Upvotes

Sorry, I couldn’t find who originally posted or made this meme. Hope that’s okay, if not I’m happy to remove!

Looking for books with a sweet protect-him-at-all-costs MMC and a strong willed, sassy FMC that makes him feel safe.

Bonus if there is a reverse age gap (even if it’s just 1 year).

One book I know that fits this really well is {Only This Once by Amber Warden}

Book Request looking for mmcs that actually fucking last NSFW

Upvotes

hii!

i’m searching for mmcs who are the opposite of “i want you so i’m gonna come within 10 seconds” because why is something along those lines in every book i’ve been reading lately? maybe it’s just my luck! but the minute the mmc gets inside her, he thrusts ONCE and suddenly “you feel so good, i’m not going to last” SIR??? WE JUST GOT HERE??? try again!!!

and then of course the fmc follows immediately cause oh well there’s not much he can offer anymore. if i were the fmc i’d be looking at him like 😐 because what do you mean you’re already done??? where is the enjoyment for her in that?!?! i know it’s meant to be seen as hot but it doesn’t really work for me! it actually irritates me lol.

so i’m looking for books where the mmc takes his sweet time fucking the fmc. his desire makes him last longer. his stamina matches his obsession for god’s sake. in need of “i want you so badly i’m making it last” not “i want you so badly i can’t last” - in a way it’s not about satisfying her but him! and his need to enjoy it as much as possible.

sorry for the cokerant but it is that deep to me 😂

contemporary, dark, historical, everything welcomed!

extra points for mmcs who are men of few words - cold and maybe a bit arrogant. i’m a sucker for them!! apologies!

extra extra points for GOOD WRITING!!!!

preferably no: school-college setting, teenagers, cheesy romcoms.

no triggers.

thanks in advance!
