Book Request MM + CR + cheap motel rooms

I swear this was a little bit of a fanfiction trend ten to fifteen years ago, but I don't know how to find any of those fics now, so I'm hoping it's also a thing in Romance book land!

I want two shirtless men, sharing a humid motel room, five feet apart 'cause they're (pretending they're) not gay.

I want suppressed sexual desires and even more deeply suppressed romantic longing.

I want tenderness triumphing over violence and vulnerability triumphing over toxic masculinity.

If you really want to throw it back to old fic tropes, {Goodbye Paradise by Sarina Bowen} has them escaping a homophobic religious cult together and then hitchhiking across the country to get to safety (while both figuring out their sexuality). Less motel rooms (because they're so broke), but they do first hook up in a trucker's cab after spooning for warmth IIRC.

Sounds like exactly the kind of angst I'm in the mood for!

(To be honest, I don't care that much about the motel room detail, I was just trying to follow the sub rules by including a specific plot detail that fits the 'vibe' I want to read.)

{Peter Cabot Gets Lost by Cat Sebastian} the two MCs go on a cross country road trip. They start out as classmates/acquaintances, one doesn’t like the other, but fall in love during the trip. One of my faves.

{False Comeback by Lily Mayne} has scenes where they meet in cheap motels, they are not closeted but they hide their relationship. I don‘t know if it‘s the right fit for the kind of vibe you go for, it‘s monster romance with one MC being a fae and the other a ghoul and they are wrestlers

{All Roads Lead to You by Courtney W Dixon} - these 2 travel cross country. They camp and stay in motels along the way.

{Peter Cabot Gets Lost by Cat Sebastian} - this one is road trip perfection!

The MCs are basically top hit men that have now become targets. They decided to band together and because they're on the run, where they stay aren't the best places.
