Discussion Community Feedback

Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I've seen a growing number of posts on the subreddit over the last few months and I'd like to get the community's feedback regarding a few things to see where this subreddit's direction should go based on what the community wants. Please feel free to leave a comment with your input on any of these topics below.

  • We currently restrict server advertisements to a sticky thread. Should this policy remain as-is, be loosened, or be made stricter? Why?

  • Do you think the current server promotion rules are working, or are they making it harder for players to discover new servers?

  • Are there any subreddit rules you think should be changed, clarified, or added?

  • Should content from official servers and private servers be treated equally? Or should posts be tagged/flaired to make filtering easier?

  • Should low-effort questions, for example: "What server should I play?", "Best class?", etc be directed to a monthly Q&A thread? Or are they fine as individual posts?

  • Should AI generated content be allowed? This includes artwork, server concepts, and other AI assisted creations. If AI generated content is allowed, should it be required to be clearly labeled?

  • Should indie developers be allowed to share their Ragnarok inspired projects? If so, should there be limits on how often they can post updates? If posts about Ragnarok inspired games continue to be allowed, what rules would you like to see? For example, limiting self-promotions, requiring gameplay footage, or setting a minimum time between update posts.

  • Overall, are you happy with the current direction of /r/ragnarokonline? Why or why not?

  • Are the current post flairs sufficient, or would additional flairs make browsing easier?

  • Do you think moderation is too strict, too lenient, or about right?

  • What would make this subreddit more valuable to you?

Discussion Coming back to RO: Classic, Pre-renewal, Renewal, or Zero?

Upvotes

Returning player here, haven't touched RO in years. Which format is worth starting on these days - Classic, Pre-renewal, Renewal, or Zero? Curious what each one does well rather than which is objectively best. Server suggestions appreciated too. Thanks!

Bergel Servercrash

Post image
Upvotes

I recently found this old screenshot from euRO, taken on September 12, 2007, and it brought back some memories.

Does anyone else remember the chaos around the Bergel server crash that day? If I remember correctly, it was also shown live on GIGA, with someone trying to log into Bergel while the server was having problems.

I've been trying to find the old GIGA footage, but haven't had any luck so far. I could swear that the clip used to be on YouTube at some point.

Does anyone remember this, know more about what happened that day, or — even better — still have the GIGA recording somewhere?

Screenshot for some 2007 euRO nostalgia. :)

Zero New Player: Is Ragnarok Zero Global worth it?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m completely new to Ragnarok Online. I have zero past experience with the game, other than wanting to play it back when it originally released many many years ago. (though I never got around to it)

Recently, I saw that Ragnarok Zero Global was launched, which sparked my interest again. However, after scrolling through reddit, I noticed that almost everyone seems very negative about the Zero Global Version and the Company behind it.

I'm looking for a version of Ragnarok that can provide long-term fun for a beginner, my main priority is finding a server with active player base. I dont mind spending a little money like a sub and stuff if the game is fun.

With that in mind, I wanted to ask: Is Ragnarok Zero Global really that bad for a fresh start? Are there any alternatives that you would recommend to a brand-new player right now?

I am based in the EU, so I heavily prefer servers that are located in Europe. I don’t mind playing on Private Servers at all, as long as they have good ping and are populated + beginner-friendly.

I would love to hear your recommendations and honest opinions. Thanks in Advance!

------------------------
Edit1:

First of all thanks for the quick and numerous replies! I already tried the trial and I’m liking it so far.

My worry is that I’ll invest a lot of time into it only to discover some deal breakers later on (like the population being too low for late‑game activities). The official RO Zero Global EU server being very populated (with players) sounds really good to me!

uaRO and AdventureRO also sound very interesting. I will look into that!

I am somewhat ok with paytowin. As long as i dont feel like hitting a wall without heavily investing, it doesnt matter much to me.

I've been building a VR client for Ragnarok Online

Fan project I've been working on — the unityro Unity client adapted for first-person VR,

talking to a local rAthena server. Running on PSVR2.

Everything you're seeing is RO's own art: the same sprites and maps from the original

client, extruded so they hold up when you're standing next to them instead of looking

down from the usual camera. Prontera's buildings are genuinely tall when you're in the

street.

Combat is a swing of the controller rather than a click — the server still runs the

actual attack at its own ASPD, the gesture just triggers it. The

equipment and inventory windows are on a world-space panel you point at.

Still a long way to go — very early alpha — but happy to share the progress.

Can't install game files

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I need some help—I'm getting desperate! I downloaded the Ragnarok LATAM installer, but when I run it to install the game, it doesn't actually install the game files. In the "patches" folder, I only find image files. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it dozens of times. I've tried everything I could find online, but nothing works. When I open the launcher, the "Start" button isn't clickable. I'm running Windows 10 without a dedicated graphics card. Has anyone else experienced this and knows how to fix it?

Renewal Renewal state

Upvotes

I heard a lot bad things about this one server before (something about gm favoritism and other stuff) but decided to give it a try anyway.
They had a new event happening and it was all bugged and causing players to crash, not a big deal since the game is old and spaghetti coded so these things happen.
But admin started being very short tempered with players, saying its their problem if they are having lag and if they know how to script they're welcome to do it better.
I asked and other players said they always act this way, that better to just ignore it.

Then when I ask about renewal alternatives and theres just some very small servers or others with comparable problems.
Is this all that is left of ragnarok renewal? I miss good days of NovaRO and LimitRO

I rebalanced Druid and Karnos for a 175/60 Third Job Renewal environment

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

I've been experimenting with adapting Druid and Karnos to a 175/60 Third Job Renewal environment.

Instead of importing their newer skill formulas as-is, I reworked their damage and scaling so they fit alongside existing Third Jobs rather than bringing 4th Job-level power into the meta.

The idea is to keep what makes the classes unique while balancing them around classes like Rune Knight, Sura, Sorcerer, Guillotine Cross, Ranger, Genetic, etc.

What interests me most is the possibility of introducing a different meta without moving the entire game into 4th Jobs.

For PvP and WoE, two new classes could potentially introduce new compositions, counters, support roles, and strategies into a meta that Third Job players already know very well.

I'm also balancing them for PvM so they have an actual place in party play, instances, and MVP content rather than existing only for PvP.

I'm developing and testing this solo, so I've been comparing their damage, utility, cooldowns, and scaling against existing Third Jobs and adjusting anything that feels out of place for a 175/60 environment.

I'd be interested to hear from longtime Third Job players:

Would you enjoy seeing newer classes adapted specifically for the 175/60 era, or would you rather keep the original Third Job roster untouched?

Sniper leveling

Upvotes

Can someone point me in the best direction for levelling as fast as possible as a lvl 80+ Sniper? Pre renewal server, 4x rates, new world maps and mobs available, no cash shop items, no renewal items.

I have an OAB with converters, dragon tail, porc, sohee, bow thimble and glove with zerom, so doing decent damage.

Looking for absolute best exp farm, not hill winds or similar.

Ragnarok-like Posted here a bit ago and got some interest from you all <3, now we're holding a Public Playtest this weekend (Sept 4-7)

Upvotes

I posted here a bit back and got some positive feedback from you all <3, just wanted to follow up and let you know that we're holding a Public Playtest for Kalmia Online over the long weekend, for anyone who wants to join (Sept 4th-7th).

Kalmia is a new 2D side-scrolling MMORPG -- I know that "RO-inspired" is a bit of a cliche at this point, and this obviously will never be a spiritual successor, but there’s genuinely a ton of influence (from ToS especially) going into the bones of this, both aesthetically and mechanically (horizontal class progression, focus on item drops, etc).

You can join the playtest on Discord, and it'll be available across Windows, Mac, and iOS/Android: https://links.kalmia.online

We're still trying to iterate on what's fun and what isn’t, and there are definitely still bugs, placeholders, etc, but I’m hoping that at least some of you might enjoy getting in on an early stage build like this. And just to quickly clarify, here’s what it’s not:

  • Doesn't have Gacha, p2w/pay for convenience/etc.
  • Zero autoplay.
  • Isn't slopful. All of the art and environments are handmade, with zero generative AI.

Hope to see some of you guys in there <3. I appreciate it more than you can know, seriously.

RagnarokOffline.app - a single app that runs the server and client together on Mac, Windows, and Linux using embedded docker containers

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

I've been building RagnarokOffline.app: one app that runs a full RO server and client on your own machine. Download it from github, point it at your client folder, and you're at your own RO login screen. The video shows gameplay running locally on my Mac.

The app ships no Gravity assets, it's GPL-3.0 source and releases available here: https://github.com/Flux159/ragnarokoffline.app

It's using rAthena and roBrowserLegacy running unmodified, in Linux containers, inside a microVM the app carries with it.

English translation text is included ROenglishRE, so it's in English out of the box.

You can play with friends locally if you change to hosting mode. Your friends download the same app, pick "Join a friend", and paste your IP address. They don't need the game files because everything is served from your machine. They make their own characters on your server.

Some videos of the entire setup process (assuming you have client assets downloaded):
- Setup walkthrough: https://youtu.be/1Ib_KqHDCLA
- Playing together on a LAN: https://youtu.be/-7QMhD4R97k

Supports macOS (Apple Silicon), Windows and Linux. Mac is the most tested, Windows and Linux are newer, and I'd genuinely like bug reports.

The packaging is the interesting part, but it isn't really tied to roBrowser. There's a wave of open clients right now — goro, korangar, nostalro-client — and I'd like this to be a way to run any of them without the setup tax. Same for alternative servers. If you're working on one and want it packaged like this, say hello!

Looking for a Build I had on EuRO (I don't remember how it called...)

Upvotes

SOLVED!!! :D

I am considering to play on a private server to relive my time at EuRO back than - before I start I wanted to look up the build for my character so I could do the same as back than. But I totally forgot how everything called. I just know my role at WOE and how our guildleader said my choice was trash. Eventually this choice gifted me the best time I had as a tank.

So I was a Paladin, I think I skilled a lot of INT - at least I know that it was shit to level as I had something like STR or DEX not high leveled. I had a skill where I could debuf, but I could also make damage. I could take a lot of dmg to so I think I was able to heal myself.

I looked at some builds online but non of the skills was hitting any memory, so I thought one of you could give me a hint what kind of Paladin I was.

Feelings about Ragnarok 3

Upvotes

I really wish this game could be reborn in a way that makes players from the new generation understand and love it the same way we, the old generation, learned to love it. But I feel like this game is being born already dead when it comes to the experience it offers new players, and one of the reasons for that is autoplay.

Imagine simply playing an MMO and not knowing the names of the cities, the names of the fields, or maybe not even the names of the monsters from the quests or the places you visit. That’s what autoplay does to the game.

I watched some CBT videos, and it’s honestly really sad to see someone click the quest button, have their character automatically walk to the marked area, and then have autoplay start once they get there. Where is the love in that? Where is the dedication? Players are sent to places they simply don’t know and made to do things they don’t understand, simply because they need to progress in the easiest and most simplistic way possible.

Another issue is: what’s the point of being an MMO if you can’t even trade directly with other players? The leveling maps are easy and don’t require parties. Imagine leveling at Hodes and not being able to chat with other players in the same party, sharing time together while working toward the same goal. It’s simply not fun, and to me, it makes no sense.

These are exactly the kinds of details that prevent players from forming meaningful connections with each other. I say this because, once again, the game pushes you toward doing individual or party-based instances to obtain the best items, and it’s just incredibly boring. It’s extremely repetitive.

I want to be able to have fun with my friends, sharing the same screen, the same experience, and I want to be able to do that naturally and easily. I don’t want to have to enter an instance just to play together.

Anyway, it’s a shame. This game is beautiful, absolutely gorgeous, but there is still so much missing, and I don’t believe in Gravity’s approach anymore. I feel like they are forcing a business model that only works for them.

The numbers show the billions in revenue. But for us, the players, what’s left are the scraps and recycled versions of a game that no longer exists.

hey im New and Old here

Upvotes

I've been watching this for quite a while now, and over the years I've seen 20 different versions of Ragnarok Online that just kept getting worse and worse.

Especially all those mobile versions.

BUT now I've seen that it's going back to its roots, and it seems to be just like it used to be.

WHAT exactly is the current, correct game that everyone is playing (i.e., which version), AND are you all playing on private servers now because the official ones are overrun with bots?

I don’t know what’s going on, but I want to be part of it I’ve just completely lost track of everything.
