I think you are reading it wrong.

It’s not Ragnarok: Zero Pay To Win

It’s Ragnarok Zero: Pay To Win and they are proud

u/NotClever Renewal/Chaos - Derivelle 4d ago

The marketing intern just forgot the punctuation mark, sorry guys

u/Unfair-Ad562 4d ago

Problem is the shillers are going to look and this and do some mental gymnastics to argue it is not P2W.

u/DofusExpert69 4d ago

It was Ragnarok Zero : Pay to win

no joke this is the 1st time ive seen this and I think this was done on purpose @ gravity. They took it down because there is probably room to sue or complain for false advertising, even if they did mean "Zero, pay to win".

u/dunkeyvg 22h ago

You read that wrong lol

u/NeinnLive 4d ago

this is soooo crazy… can’t believe what kind of shitty company this was, is and stays to be…

u/goaskcivil 5d ago

It was obvious from the beta. Why are people even surprised? Gravity turned Ragnarok from a world into a spreadsheet with anime sprites, and it’s been like that for the past 15 years.

u/Varkot 4d ago

It's a MPS. Micro transactions per second is what matters

u/RealEntropyTwo 5d ago

Because they haven’t been kicked in the nuts enough. Wait for the „bUt TaIwAn Ro“ bs excuse me

u/LaNoir_aka_Blacky 3d ago

yeah wonder where this 211 dude is defending it haven't seen hi-ah there he is

u/robinforum 2d ago

B- but.. Taiwa-

We knew about cash ores since beta. Who does it surprise? It's a 15 year old cash item every Offcial had.

Atleast stuff like bsb is obtainable ingame and I've seen streamers getting the guaranteed +9 refine tickets with only ingame items already. (Just spending zeny on the market)

Never refining my own gear anyway just buying it straight from the market and cash ores make buying stuff for zeny cheaper.

If taiwan gets ocp gear i'd worry but the whole point of the sub is that they wont have such gear in the shop.

u/Alternative_Mouse101 5d ago

Well beyond that they already have the HD for 6-9 and the 10+ in the shop.

As far as self refining I'm not sure if MD gear is tradable so if they aren't you would have to do your chest if you want an essance (basically legendary affix). TW used to be then not, also needed to be +9 so will have to see if that is still true or if they have a fixed cost or rng rolls.

u/zweieinseins211 5d ago

Has to be tradable. With how random spirit essences are and also the materials are tradable.

nononono official bad and p2w, bad bad bad bad fake news /s

u/Avibhrama 5d ago

Oh no, who could see that coming?

u/gabo__o 4d ago

these have always been a cash shop thing, nothing new

u/joncabreraauthor 3d ago

UARO for lyf

u/Public-Jelly1432 3d ago

Gravity game, no surprise. Just play in Private Server if you want a no p2w experience.

u/LandscapeNecessary66 4d ago

Get a hobby weirdos

u/DofusExpert69 4d ago

In an alternative reality, RO ZERO was actually released in the US and no pay to win micro transactions existed. Would kill to play that.

u/4evaInSomnia 4d ago

Enrich p2w? It only extra 10%. Only guarantee +1 to +3. +4 to +7 still can broken, bro.

Seriously dont play if you dont like it. No use nagging here. Everyone has their own preference. Just play server you like.

u/steena88 4d ago

aside from the fact that if you get a cash shop advantage for +0.1%, it's still a p2w advantage. the size of the advantage doesn't cross a magic threshold where it suddenly becomes p2w. the constant moving of the goalpost shows how captured you people are, and infact gravity has no reason not to push it further forever like they do, since the fine warriors are ready attempting to warp reality and doing PR damagecontrol for free.

but aside from that - 10% improved chance per upgrade on a long term system meant to break a lot of shit is a lot. percentage compounds exponentially every step, for sequential RNG. a sequential streak gets to overall 2x success rate total extremely quickly on just a few 10% success increments. that means dozens and dozens of millions.

aside from manipulating terminology and having skipped math class - if it's fine that P2W works so that i get to set an arbitrary power difference for what is "winning", then i set in my head that pay to win is only when you sell 5 mvp cards - so it's okay for the cash shop to have up until 4 mvp cards, as that is only four mvp cards. it's not as much as 5. so it's not really pay to win.
see how that stockholm syndrome works? i'd focus more on gravity outright lying on their advertisement for ro-zero, their single selling point slogan is entirely and definitionally a scam. it's not up to interpretation. it doesn't matter how many game systems you try to bend backwards to explain away, or if 10% higher upgrade is small enough.

or using your own cope argument: if it's true that the condition "it can still break" doesn't breach into p2w - then we can change the cash shop item to cost 50x and have 99% safe upgrade. hey, it can still break, so it's not fully P2W! you can still lose! using arbitrary conditions to change terms is not great.

you can have a preference for tolerating a level of P2W. you can't have a preference for pretending to call this not P2W. that's not how preferences work. i just hope gravity is gifting you some battle manuals for your service.

u/DofusExpert69 4d ago

Yeah pretty much. You can tell the RO community just caves in and pays, then ditches the server while saying "wow pay to win!" after. But they actively support it because it isn't "that bad".

u/4evaInSomnia 4d ago

So much text, but still no proof enrich p2w. How tf mvp card equal to enrich?

u/hairo4 4d ago

You need to learn math.

10% to 20% is "only" 10%, but the impact is bigger that what you can imagine with your current capacity.

u/4evaInSomnia 4d ago

So math genius, tell me big impact you talking about. I already play so many games. Extra chance as long as not guarantee 100% or any pity is just pure bs.

u/wolfmdc 4d ago

What's the impact if someone have a stronger weapon than me? It's not a competitive game

u/hairo4 4d ago

Why do you think people are willing to pay money to make their characters stronger?

It is competitive for many players, and this means that anyone trying to compete on equal footing would have to pay money for it, specially when money is the only way to achieve it in game where there are no methods to get it through investing time.

It's just bad for the players engagement and community when they allow such things, even although I am one of players who has disposable income to spend on it.

u/waltyy 4d ago

I want folks to stop preaching this. It's been this easy in RO for damn near 20 years and many other games do the same.

If you have money to spend, you have access to higher items. The person above is right, this does not take away from any single experience in the game. Pay walls can be annoying, but there is just no reason to be complaining about RO having one because it always has.

u/NarwhalPrudent6323 4d ago

Isn't it, though? Ragnarok always has a pretty large PVP endgame. If it's not there yet, it's almost assuredly coming.

And past versions of RO have balanced PVE content around the whales. So doing new content often involved just being carried by someone way outside your power, with no in game way to bridge the gap between you and them.

It's a small difference now. It's also only the first thing. They've done this with other versions too, where early on the P2W is small, but then quickly ramps up. Have there been many in game events yet? Those are often a big P2W target.

I'd love to be wrong. But past precedent says I'm not.

u/Sampoxi 4d ago

War of Emperium and PvP Boss maps are not competitive. The world is saved!

u/wolfmdc 4d ago

Good thing they are optional and you don't need to play either to progress.

u/ThinkinDeeply 5d ago

Don’t care

u/jack_maloko 4d ago

As for my reply to one of the posts here, the game is good with the updated skills and gameplay, but it's still p2w with those added stamina and whatnot. Heck the p2w in the old era was the enriched elu and ori, and those were still in the game shop when the game is gonna be released base on the videos, so there's always hindsight 20/20 for those who are crying now, but for those who knew this was coming from a mile away, it's wisdom.

u/wolfmdc 5d ago

So? It's not like they are holding anyone at gunpoint and making then buy it.

u/Unhappy-Appeal-9209 4d ago

this gotta be the stupidest comment I've read in a fat while

u/wolfmdc 4d ago

Argument, then. What's the impact in your game if someone is paying to have stronger equipment faster than you? It's not a competitive game.

u/Unhappy-Appeal-9209 4d ago

there's no argument to be made, if u think p2w just affects competitive games then you're simply beyond dumb 🤞 there's this thing called PvE & Economy!!! hope it helps!!!

u/wolfmdc 4d ago

As I thought...

u/Unhappy-Appeal-9209 4d ago

🤓☝️

u/ayinco 4d ago

The impact is geavity purposefully balance refine sucess chances to be frustrating so people buy enricheds, i cant believe so many people defend this shit or just dont get how much it affects the game design.

u/KRBK201 4d ago

Have you heard of the concept called `game balance` specially for competitive games?

Companies can still earn with adding things like skins, special effects, etc.,

for RO, they can also add things like stat/skill reset without destroying the economy, no?

u/Latin00b 4d ago

that's an MVP for sure (Money Very Powerfull)

great system

u/gabo__o 4d ago

what

u/Moist-Audience-7466 4d ago

Seriously need to move on from expecting no p2w in any ro server. Its part of the business of running a server someone needs to pay the bills and owners will take donations advertised or under the table because the players that pay get horny being the most powerful person in the room

u/LaNoir_aka_Blacky 3d ago

it worked for euRO for half a decade before they minimalistically carved in. the difference? burda:ic not gravity

u/joemari5 4d ago

“Ragnarok” and “Zero Pay to win” could never coexist anymore. Have you seen Ragnarok The New World? It’s so astoundingly p2w, even upgrading the weapon skin is a freaking gacha
