Sunny says hello!
This is my 2yo mini poodle, Sunny, my 4th poodle. I grew up with a wonderful dachshund and later had the sweetest samoyeds. They will live in my heart forever, but once I had a poodle, that was it. I had a toy, then a spoo and a mini before Sunny, all super smart, but the way poodles communicate with you and bond with you is amazing. Sunny understands many words and even has learned the concept of wait. Whether he wants me to fetch his toy and is showing me it rolled under the center island, is ringing his doorbell to go out or wants his food, he knows if I say wait, he waits patiently knowing I will do it, watching me intently.

Does anyone else’s poodle lick a lot?
My 3 year old male poodle is the sweetest dog I’ve ever had, and he’s also the one that licks the most. I’ll be laying in bed and he will come cuddle up with me and just constantly try to lick my arms and hands. Is this a poodle thing or is he just weird? (Felt like if I didn’t add a pic of him it would be a crime lol)

Am I about to become Hendrix’s full-time butler? 😂
Has anyone successfully trained their pup to use a bell for balcony potty breaks? Will I regret this? Did it work long term? Did your dog abuse the bell just because they wanted to go outside? And if so, how did you teach them the difference?
PS: The balcony won’t replace walks once he’s fully vaccinated.

Best houseguest ever!
We have a mini staying with us for a few weeks (the two standards are residents). They really are the exact same breed. They all play in the exact same way. My two females (mini and parti) has made up their own game using my wheelchair ramp and a ball. That game has rules to it that they have somehow communicated to each other and they both follow. I keep falling in love with this breed over and over.

What ages do you start specific grooms?
I have a 4 month old standard boy! He’s my first poodle as an adult and the only one I’ve ever had as a puppy. We had a rescue poodle when I was a kid but she came to us over a year old with her full adult coat, and as a teen I helped with her maintenance grooming.
We’ve been desensitizing the clippers and general face buzzing using an electric toothbrush and we finally had a breakthrough today! He let me clip his cheeks and under his eyes so he can actually see, and no more crusty eye boogers!
I’m celebrating the win but curious what ages you started doing things like topknot banding and full body clips? I’ve only done parts of his face and feet so far but we’re in Texas, it’s hot and I’m worried about how profuse his coat is, especially since he’s a very dark brown.
Before and after of my muppet man for tax 😂

Taking a walk to go see the tadpoles. Millie loves to watch the tadpoles swim around.

Anyone else take their poodle in the ocean daily? Apparently ruins their hair so it has to be short.

Food recommendations for picky eaters
So we have been having trouble with finding a food our 5 month old puppy will actually eat.
She isn’t my first dog, but every previous dog has been food motivated to some extent.
She isn’t underweight yet, but she is thinner than what I would like for a growing puppy.
We have tried all the common suggested tips, structured meals, free feeding, waiting her out until she is hungry, using puzzles, hand feeding. Adding warm water, mixing the dry kibble with wet food, adding tasty human foods, mixing in broth, mixing in cheese, hotdogs, milk, peanut butter, adding dog treats.
She isn’t food or treat motivated at all, and will literally just not eat. The vet cleared her, she apparently is just picky. She isn’t waiting for us to spice up her bowl either.
The only things she has actually shown any interest in are duck feet bone chews, and frozen beef treats, and cat food, but even then she only nibbles at them.
We have tried
Purina pro plan: All of their puppy formulas, literally every single one, both wet and dry.
Billjacs: all puppy formulas both wet and dry, as well as their ‘picky eater canned food’.
Royal Canin: poodle puppy formula
Nutro: natural choice Lamb and brown rice formula
Edit:
Thank you all so very much! This is all very helpful!
She is full poodle so I was expecting some picky eating behavior, but she is on another level of food refusal. When she does eat food, she picks at it, but never eats enough to get the total calorie and nutritional amount she actually needs. She has even turned down roasted chicken breast from my own plate!
Adding Mr. Marty’s, Virbac Nutrigel, and Royal Canin digestive kibble to our list. And going to try singing to her as well.

mini poodle help
Hi everyone!!
Just god a mini poodle a few days ago. A 3 mo, black boy, I tought i could use this as a safe space and ask questions so I make sure I'm doing everything right. Already did a lot of reaserch, both my mom and I but I feel like its all different and not as the internet says when you have a baby poodle in your house.
First of all already he does not care for the puppy diapers (the ones you put on the floor) i put some of his urine and puppy training drops and he already went everywhere but the diapers. We did go for a walk in the front yard for an hour after each meal and he only went to pee outside.
Besides that I think hes just a normal puppy with nornal puppy behaviour.
Thanks in advance with all the help! Exited to have this small one with me now🥰
