With the sudden increase and urgency of the wildfire conflagrations and evacuations across the state and likelihood of it getting worse before it gets better, I am reminded of a comment from u/canonconstructor from 6 years ago. While things have been manageable so far, here are some things to remember:
I don’t know if any Oregon friends will read this but I was just evacuated from my home in California and have some advice and tips I wish I would have known before hand.
When you get back home, replace all filters in your home and car- An easy way to rid your home of the smoke smell is to attach large filters to box fans, cover with a wet towel doused in fabric softner and let them run.
Above ALL else, I hope my Oregon friends and family are safe. My last bit of advice is to take it easy on yourself. You're in the middle of a global pandemic, your home and community is on fire. It is ok to have hard days, to grieve for your loss and your community and just the general situation of the dumpster fire that is 2020. Allow yourself to cry, get angry, drink a glass of wine, or smoke a joint. Its ok to not be ok and to feel unsafe right now.

With all of that great advice in mind, please also remember that there are a lot of amazing people willing and able to help out there. Beyond the Red Cross services, there are many landowners who will open up their land for livestock and other animal evacuations, people who will allow you to camp on their land, even food truck operators who will set up and feed anybody and everybody that needs it. People want to help and will do what they can with the resources they have.

A redditor advised I repost this comment as its own post. Washington recently had a primary and Thurston County (near Olympia) is reporting that their late ballot rate increased three-fold over prior elections. Shenanigans are already happening at USPS even without the bogus executive order. In the upcoming election, your best bet is to turn your ballot in at an official drop-box, not the mail. This needs to be amplified repeatedly, especially in states like ours that rely on mail ballots. Oregon SOS Tobias Reed is trying to secure funding for additional ballot drop boxes as more Oregon voters are expected to use ballot drop boxes to avoid US mail interference.

Remember—where we live gives us strength as much as our own will. Oregon is a very sacred and special place on this earth. I am so grateful to call it home, especially now.

The motel is gone, but its giant pink roadside sign still remains along Highway 97. A forgotten piece of mid-century Americana and one more Forsaken Fragment.

I’m trying to find an Oregon tenant-side attorney, and I’m running into the same problem repeatedly: many landlord-tenant attorneys seem to primarily represent landlords or only handle routine eviction matters.
I’m in Curry County, but I will work with an attorney anywhere in Oregon.
My matter involves documented habitability issues, rodents, mold/moisture, structural and electrical concerns, repeated repair requests, disputed/unfinished repairs, requested inspection records, and potential retaliation.
This has been developing for months, and I have preserved a substantial evidence record: emails, texts, photos, videos, contractor/inspection information, dates, repair requests, and an organized chronology.
I don’t need Reddit to tell me whether I can sue someone. I need an attorney who can look at the actual evidence and tell me what the appropriate claims and remedies are.
Who in Oregon actually handles complex tenant-side cases like this?
Portland, Salem, Eugene, Medford, Bend—location does not matter as long as they are Oregon licensed and willing to handle a Curry County case.
Personal referrals are especially appreciated. DMs are fine.

My husband and I plus a buddy of ours are on our way home to Sacramento from Washington.
Our first stop will be in Gresham Oregon, does anyone have any recommendations/suggestions on where to stop to eat that won’t be expensive (we are on a tight budget) and will be good?
